I'm with you Jock, remember it well at Stafford, not my cup of tea but fair play to Keb & Guy for trying different stuff. Tempests,Bobby Hutton, Sam Dees etc. As for Crown hotel in Fife, unforgettable, passionate crowd
  2. hi Paul, young good looking people enjoying themselves, it won't catch on looks great, wish i was young

I haven't heard ' Ain't got nobody to give it to' since that fantastic ' Lost Soul' double lp came out years ago, what agreat lp that is.
  4. I remember going up in the coach to 'Crown hotel' in Scotland when Keb & Guy were on. They had just put it on a tape on the coach from derby, by the time we got there everyone new it. They played it twice that night and the place was jumping, great night
  5. about 5 years ago 100% pure poison lp £1 and Ron Keith - go goota go by what you tell me UK 7" a bit crackly but that was a mixed bag of records and books for £1
  6. Ivor, Where have you been lately, last seen with Piller on the good ship Farrer, trying to re-start the Mighty Marvels
  7. There was another Sam Dees gig at the Jazz cafe ( not the one with johnny Bristol) where the band had not been given his songs in time and didn't know any of his records. Cue 'knock on wood' etc. It was truly awful and I think a lot of people had dragged non-soul mates along to be astounded by a legend Having seen him prior to this at Blackpool/Southport not sure ? Dingwalls and the other jazz cafe gig I can confirm he is fantastic though
  8. Hi Tone, No suit, bad jumper, just sang the songs with a great band, no bollocks
  9. Hi Salv, I also saw James Carr at Brentford as well as Blues Estefette 1990 and he was great, but he is my favourite. Sam Dees at Dingwalls, Be Be & Ce Ce Winans at Hackney empire. Masqueraders at Northampton and Otis Clay in Belgium was fantastic, played a great workmanlike set

Get back on the New Rave forum mate, we don't want your sort mucking about
  12. As Sean has already said, the key to Ians success was he had great taste as well as the rare ones. Great times at 'Function at the junction' in the 80s. Really fun times, nothing po faced at all about the do. Also the White Horse in Putney and the Phoenix as well. A great guy into the bargain,my favourite dj, hopefully he will come back for a last hurrah.
  13. If anyone who loves deep soul hasn't got the Charles Brimmer or John Edwards lps, buy them, they are fantastic !!!!
  14. Fantastic record with a great deep flip ' Broken hearted mans prayer'. Swapped mine for 'Baby take me back' on modern around the Stafford era.
  15. Totally agree mate, fun was the order of the day. Remember Jock Mitchell used to get played alongside other classic oldies. Ian Clark who was probably my favourite soul dj,great taste in rare 60s, 70s & crossover he had the lot
  16. Very sad news indeed, I knew Sylvia in the mid 80s and she was a larger than life character then. I remember going to a party round at Amanda from Brightons flat and she cooked a spaghetti bolognase which Sylvia (a little tired and emotional) promptly tipped into her handbag Rest in peace Sylvia, my thoughts are with her family. Ps. Is anyone driving up from London to the funeral? Please pm me Thanks
  17. Leave it out Jason, get back to the Acid House
  18. Totally agree with this one Gareth. Great bubbling base line, just grooves along.
  19. yes mate, see you there
  20. Hi Simon, Bloody hell, I haven't heard from you for donkeys years. I remember seeing you at Bob Jones 'Royal oak' do in the early 80s. He used to play some great stuff like Paul Kelly-You make me tremble, Jackie Moore- precious precious, Sam Dees - Easier to say than do. How the hell are you?
  21. Hi Dave, Didn't you used to play it at Stafford? I'm sure I remember it played. I agree with Sean 'It's me' is a killer tune!!!
  22. Totally agree, scandalously underrated, up there with John Edwards, Womack,James Carr etc. BUY IT

On one of the new years eve do's I was wearing a Juventus top ( No idea why! ) And I nearly got a good hiding from some locals who thought it was a Newcastle top Happy days Ps I used to stay in the family room at parkers ( on a fold up bed) with Val & Dave, to keep the cost down. Thrifty Binsy

Not sure about that one Karen, but Al Johnson in a shell suit if my memory serves me right. Eddie Parker in a white jump suit with leopard skin trim and matching headband at Stafford. Next

Like everyone else I adored Parkers, I remember the new years eve do's and Richard Searlings 40th ? in the back room after the main room had shut (ticket only). Richard proceeded to play a superb set of his favourites from all decades. I remember hearing Beau Williams- give him up and Loleatta Holloway- I just can't help myself. Dean used to play some quality mid tempo/ballads early doors. Floyd Smith -getting nowhere fast and JJ Barnes - I think I've got a chance. Miss it a hell of a lot
