Hi, I think the copy that went for that money was an issue copy with the equally stunning ' Ain't no easy way' on the flip. We were talking about it on a previous 'deep' thread. The copy with 'Try to leave me' is a lot easier to find.
  9. Hi Curno, It was really great to see you as well. I was Djing at Monumental last night and Bob from kilburn turned up, first time I've seen him for ages. The photo of me on the sight is my 18th birthday in '82. Love the Jam picture on the union jack, with Paul Weller looking directly into our Khazi. My mum served him a few months ago and told him and then got his autograph for me
  10. I was a regular at that one. I remember Ion's birthday there, someone bought him a 'top shelf' all the spirits along the top in one glass!!! He through up within minutes and then carried on dancing, happy days Also Jon, just found all my membership cards from RSG, Sensible soul,Cass club,Peterborough and a funny one ARSE ( Aylesbury Rare Soul Experience)

  12. I'm a big fan of ' He sent me you' on Mercury.
  13. Brilliant singer, also love her version of 'Ain't no easy way down' from the Dusty In Memphis album.Love her Philly lp with tracks 'Lost', 'Silly silly fool' 'Bad case of the blues' and a 70s lp called 'Cameo' a track called' Who gets your love' a Lambert & Potter penned tune.
  14. On the subject of deep soul, try this site which is run by the excellent John Ridley. www.sirshambling.com Some great sound clips, check out the awesome 'It's got to be tonight' by Willie Johnson
  15. A few that do it for me, Frankie Gearing- Teardrops, Bobby Womack- I'm through trying to prove my love for you, John Edwards- The walls that seperate our love. All the real deal
  16. Hi Tone, Looking forward to Monumental in a few weeks. Noticed there was a Pep Brown- This good thing that I've got -Walden on ebay recently, wanted $250 didn't sell, thought that would go for a few quid, shame mines knackered
  17. Sorry Andy, I still love the track so much. I was just reading up on the site that you played it about 20 years ago, fair play to you
  18. Hi Andy, I've got the P vine album and to be honest the sound is a bit muddy. Not sure how the original album sounds because I thought it was stupidly rare. But what a voice on 'don't take your love from me'
  19. Hi Gareth, I stumbled across a young kid selling a big box of US 7" vinyl in the Dalston High St where they used to have second hand clothes etc. It was about 15 years ago and everything was 25p or £3 for the James Brown ones I bought a few northern tunes, about 19 copies of Dry Well which I didn't like but traded with Tim Brown for loads of great deep!!! The Chuck Armstrong he didn't want to sell me because it had a funk flip. I wore him down because I had spent a few quid with him and am glad I did.
  20. Hi Steve, It's called ' A Better Place' on Black Rock a real belter . Loved your spot at Essence on Saturday afternoon by the way, didn't know any of them. Hi Tone glad Jans still about, top guy.
  21. Cheers Sean can't wait for Essence, Frankie Gearing, Chuck Armstrong,Womack, all ready and waiting. Anyone still in contact with Jan Barker, used to always read his column in Blackbeat, fantastic stuff! Last met him at Morecambe weekender in the 90s when Sam Dees came over, had a great time. Just been inspired to dig a few out to play again, Truth- Come back home, Willie Johnson- Its me, Sweet Berry- Don't let go. Tony 2 gigs in a year is as good as it gets for me, now that George Jackson is no longer on
  22. Deep soul is my personal favourite as well. The great thing about it is there are loads of great cheap deep soul records, Bobby Patterson -if you hadn't slipped up and got caught, Roger Hatcher- We're gonna make it etc. Of course there are the holy grail deep records, but I'm happy with my classic deep. In saying that I'm lucky enough to have a copy of Rainbow rd. Can't wait for Essence next year to play the legendary Downbeat lounge
  23. Groovettes- Think it over baby Tempests- Someday ( I think played on the coach from Derby going up to the Crown hotel in Fife, first time I heard it) Bobby Hutton- Come see Ghetto boys - Handwriting on the wall Buddy Ace- Pleasing you Loads more, had some great times there. The turnover of tunes there was mindboggling

Really underrated singer, I love 'Groove me' and 'I'm gonna fall in love with you'. Worth seeking out his 'Well Done' Lp shouldn't be too hard to find.
