while Ace Sspectrum is being discussed, was it not re-released later on in the 70s a few years after it had sold 1 million plus so people may even have the second press ?

I would also add that JMM and BB current value wise do not reflect their rarety, yes that is supply and demand though.

absolutely not,in fact there are some great cheap records that dont get played because they are cheap, what I am saying is that many cheap records are plugged and become popular by design just so certain people can sell them in quantities and make a lot of moneyadditionally records are pushed so they can be pressed and agian certain people make money at the expense of soul fans,

interesting stuff but the fact that records were ''pushed'' to then be pressed for the financial benefit of a few is an old and well known story. I have said before it still goes on today not for the pushing of bootlegs but for the blatent ramping up of cheap sounds that some people have stock of that when become popular get sold for 10 times the actual value, deep dark secret,Ace Spectrum,Futures,Almeta lattimore,J M Matthews,Bill bush etc etc, the true value of these records is far less than what they are getting sold for, it is just the way it is. yes some records are quite rare and do not get the recognition price wise that they should and some common records go for silly money just cos its the current ''big sound'' to say that bootlegging is fine cos it gave us what we have today is a load of bollocks, the scene would have progressed anyway, just look how much knowledge collectors and dealers have these days and how many more is there now than there was 30 years ago, then there was maybe a dozen people with enough knowledge, appreciation of the music and the ability to go to the States and ''open doors'' to find the records and make agreements with dealers in the US,now there is loads of knowledgable people with great records themselves.......the only problem is the vinyl has dried up !!!

this is susposed to be a boot as it was never actually released by the company who own the rights to the recording, dont know if the same group sorry.
  21. Billy Quarles on Columbia........my copy is on RALLY, this is the first issue isnt it ? Columbia second, anybody confirm ?
  22. they should IMO
  23. I tell you these days at niters I would sooner float around the floor at 5 in the morning to some mid tempo than try to put my knees out to uptempo northern..just too old....is that another reason why we like mid tempo cos we still wanna dance ? you can only look for records for so long then you have to get up and dance.
  24. wrong Pete sorry, there is so much quality crossover that is pure soul music......modern I agree,go to a nightclub, but whilst I love mid-uptempo and uptempo 60s I also think crossover mid tempo and mid to uptempo is the dogs bits,so many singers on crossover really belt it out it has soul content and a lot still has that basic/rough/tuppenny arrangement,so much like 60s just a little further forward in time, that said early/hard soul is nice but R&B ? its been taken to the extreme, especially these days in trying to find something new ( plus a few clip clop dodgy ones as well that are not soul at all just white C&W IMO ) mind you I just dont get it,maybe its me ?
  25. despite thinking most R&B is glorified rock and roll I do like the term hardsoul which is what I always use to define when I buy what is really an R&B record........ ........so have come across the following, Denna Johnson and Ricky Davis on SIMPSON records white demo...called ''who me ? yeah you!'' now I know absolutely nowt about R&B as I just dont go to the dos and if its a mixed venue and they play some I go off and make a nuisance of myself ( ask jamie ) so, is this well known ? is it worth owt ? and at a push I would dance to it ( subject usual factors know what I mean ) anybody help with info as if known, overplayed, worth owt etc etc, the impression I get from talking to a few R&B fans is that the records on the R&B scene are still turning up and while northern and crossover are known by loads of people ,you can still turn up the odd unknown or obscure one thats not known by that many. that said I bet this is an obvious/well known one but thought I would ask, niceish mid -uptempo flip mind that could get played in the northern rooms ''theres gonna be a showdown'' not the Archie Bell of course. cheers
