  1. Never heard of it until recently; apparently it's the biggest Deep Funk record ever that some plagarists on the Northern scene have just picked up on. Is it any good?
  2. On Luan, "He's looking for a love". Ask Chanky nicely, and he'll post a sound file up again.
  3. They pop up every now and then on lists, more than ebay; I've seen it between £20 & £40 in recent times.
  4. Colonel Abrahams - 'Trapped' from the 'disco' before Colors - 'Am I gonna be the one' on the little revolving dance floor at the very top Guy - "All the way from Chicago, these are the Alabanians & The Same Thing" (The Masquaders C/U is the Albanians from being on holiday and looking over at Albania according to the man himself!)
  5. Whispering Shadow - Stop the world / (You gotta watch the ) Fog - Mr "D's" Records K-3078 It's in stereo, so it might be a 70's recording! "Fog" is funky and crap! In the Sounds section / Out and about / Pat Brady 1985 # 6, first record

She was the leader singer of the "Audience" before going solo. The sample is from Carol Williams - Love is you - Salsoul; quite a typical record of the day and not too bad

Perhaps he gave the money (£362) to charity, rather than just take an item off his own auction because someone pointed out the "Van Gogh" was actually done by a five year old with felt-tips?

I'm gonna have to come up to Wonderland and kill you Mark, I don't want to swap anything for the Limelights unless it involves me getting a copy of the Andantes - Like a Nightmare ( acapella version ). And while we're at it, you can take your copy of Frank Wilson and ............

It's a nice soulful acapella, Mark. I'll quite like them as you hear what people are singing about, but there no much use to non-chin- strokers and dancers. I also like studio cuts of different versions, if anyone has any to post up. Oh and especially the bit where the singer / group is being counted in by the producer. If you want I can post up James Jamerson playing just the base line to "ain't no mountain high enough"!

I take it then the one on ebay (left hand scan) is an orginal and OK to put a bid on? I was just a bit worried it does not look as neatly printed as the definate original ( right hand scan)
  15. What about the Velvet Satins? There must at 87 different kinds of labels, though in reality, I suspect half of them are early 70's pressings!

I'm saving my money to get a real one of these: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4714784695&rd=1
  17. (How many times can you get the word original into a post!) The "original" version played out was off emi disks cut from the original studio acetate. There's a picture in Kev Roberts's top 500, I seem to remember, but I can't remember if it's accredited to the 'Prophets' or 'Originals', but the title was originally "Baby have mercy on me" which is what it was originally registered with BMI. I think it was speeded up a little for the sake of a few chemically enhanced dancers at the time. It was pressed at the time on a UK boot with Eddie Holman -'' Where I'm not wanted'' on the reverse. A different Original's version was issued on the CD "This is Northern soul! Volume 2" with a different vocalist and slightly different words, but at the correct slower original speed. Motown then released a comp of Original's tracks, the first one being the original version at the slower speeed, but titled 'Suspicion' There's another vocal by F. Knows, but it's funky with a whaa whaa guitar on it! There's also an U/R instrumental of the original take.
