Agreed. I've always said that if an alien visited us and asked what soul music is, then the best way to answer them is to play an Otis Redding record.
  2. All Dressed Up In Love was great!
  3. Great thread. Keep it coming lads
  4. I think it’s important for a night or an allnighter. It adds to the experience as you described. Another important point is that they must be coherent. I’ve lost count of the times that I’ve never understood a word.

    I heard Bobby Hebb's "Love, Love,Love" in M&S yesterday
  6. Which CD is that Steve?
  7. Ah yes, I stand corrected Benji.
  8. It was also on The Wants List CD too on Soul Brother

I luckily got mine for £15 in a second hand shop about 5 years ago but have seen it sell for as much as £85

You won't be disappointed. I'm listening to the third CD as I type. The man was an all time great. Some of the songs are really sad, especially when you consider his early death. The unreleased stuff is fascinating. Memory of our Love has got to be the best previously unreleased song of the year.
  11. Didn't the mod clubs in London have allnighters in the mid 60s?

This Donny Hathaway anthology is fantastic. It includes a CD of unreleased material and a superb booklet https://www.amazon.co.uk/Never-My-Love-The-Anthology/dp/B00F6283MO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384432617&sr=8-1&keywords=donny+hathaway+never+my+love
  13. I hope not! Maybe Kirk Franklin - Looking For You

  15. It could be anything. Any more clues?
  16. It didn't even get hammered on the modern scene, did it? Certainly not that I'm aware of. It's utter crap. I know some crap tunes are popular on the modern scene e.g. Lisa Stansfield, but God knows how someone that this would work at any kind of soul gig let alone a northern one.
  17. Wow, that's a bold claim. What even more so than Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding or Wilson Picket?
  18. I still like this. "My Balloon's Going Up" Chris Anderton used to rave about this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC5zv77jw2Y
  19. It was featured on the BBC London news tonight
  20. Nino Tempo - Sister James Kurt Harris - Emperor of my Baby's Heart
  21. Yeah I did. He was great . So was Glenn Jones. As Sean said above he doesn't have the greatest of voices but he has sung some fantastic songs. He did Don't Let Love Get You Down, It's Hard Not to like You, Let's Groove, Tighten Up, Strategy and quite a few others. No 1000 Wonders though which was a pity because the brass section were great
  22. The Ideals - Mighty Lover / Detriot Executives - Cool Off

I think so Jordi. I’ve got the same 12” as you.

Blowin' My Mind is quite good. I've always thought of it as being a little commercial as it got hammered at Caister and various do's down south. I much preferred Touch Me a little later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzA9Uw1UPgk
