The "Just Ain't Good Enough" LP got a CD release in the last two years. You should be able to pick up either for a tenner.

Can anyone put an mp3 or suchlike up of this please.
  3. Can't be much more than £3, I'd have thought. Great record.

That's right Pete. I think it's great that they get played in northern rooms but can't understand why it's just a few of this type and why it has to be vinyl. It's different to the older records because the CD is the original release and you can't much more for your money - particularly in the case of the Al Green CD.

    Why?

I still don't understand why a 12" would be more sought after and more expensive than a CD, just because the room playing the song doesn't have the equipment to play a CD. The CD contains more songs (great, solid CD in this case) and is easier and cheaper to find. The CD is the original release too.

That's what I thought. There's nothing wrong with the CD mix (on "Don't Look back") - it's fantastic. Can't believe that the 122 is much of an improvement and certainly not worth shelling much more for.

Her new CD is supposed to be brilliant. I've not heard it myself so would be grateful for any reviews. "His Hands" (title track) is the killer track, apparantly. It's even got a rave review in the Daily Mirror today (not that necessarily means much lol!)
  9. Thanks for putting that up. I enjoyed it. My only criticism is that you wasted two minutes focusing on Wigan, which has been done countless times before. Much more interesting to see the recent footage and hear the young girl describe why she loves the music.

I'd vote for Levi too. Did he ever make a solo record? Aside from The Little Shop of Horrors thing (which doesn't count lol)

Have to agree the self titled CD that came out on Honest Johns is top quality southern soul.
  12. I was thinking of Sandra Wright or Bill Coday "A Man Can't Be A Man".

Her version of "Something About 'Cha" is superb too.
  14. The Stevie version is on the "Hotter Than July" LP. Backing vocals by Betty Wright and Michael Jackson. Awesome. I had no idea he'd written in 15 years earlier until the Cellarfull of Motown CD came out. It seems strange to hear it called a northern soul song as I just think of it as a Stevie Wonder LP track from 1980.
  15. I seem to be in a minority of this one but I don't think the Dimitri remix is an improvement. I also don't think the original was that good in the first place.
  16. It's a great song. He also sang "Lord, it's hard to humble when you're perfect in every way......." - one my Dad used to like lol!
  17. Good - o
  18. Jo, didn't you throw someone out of Caroline Records for asking for Dick Van Dyke?
  19. Floorshakers was the first compo LP I reallly loved. "Winner Takes All" is another Kent fave of mine. I also love "Detroit A Go Go" on Inferno as I didn't know any of the tracks at the time.
  20. Sevens is excellent as were the two that followed in the late 80s - 4U2NJOY and errrr the other one (can't remember the title off hand.)
  21. Excellent thread. Some good recommendations. The one that springs to mind this morning is Mary Love Comer "Come Out of the Sandbox"

I'm sure it is and there's people who've probably got 90% of it on such a device already. Websites such as Soulclub have got nearly all the well known NS tracks on them.
  23. Yep, Boogaloo records is excellent. I'd recommend stuff on Kent, earlier Goldmine, Grapevine and Joe Boy. There's loads of excellent CD compos catering for a wide range of tastes.
  24. Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" Stevie Wonder "Lately" Aretha Franklin "I Say A Little Prayer"
  25. Al Hudson & Partners "Spread Love" - stone classic!!
