  3. I collected about 2/3 of the label run over 20 years, a lot of the girl groups I picked up from my earliest source of US Soul 45's in Scallywags record shop in Southsea, Portsmouth run by a couple who predominantly collected Ska. I had them in a box for several years gathering dust so I eventually took them to a local car boot near the New Forest to shift on, lo and behold the eventual buyer who snapped them all up at a quid a piece was the lady from Scallywags.............what goes around! No mention of Sidney Barnes - I hurt on the otherside - Red Bird on that list or did I miss it? Had a conversation with John Manship who indicated he had a copy in his hands on an Australia trip, but I have never seen or heard of any other proof of its existence so my demo on Blue Cat still holds pride of place in my boxes for pure Northern, Lee

  7. Just done a search to find it's credited to Elayna Boynton, wonder if there'll be any royalties for the original writers / artists, too many fine 60's soul tracks stolen with no reference to originals if you ask me!
  8. This quality track is being covered by some unknown to me artist on the latest Ikea Ad. Prefer this version to that and Aretha's.

Perfect arrangement, lyrics and vocals and all for just a few quid) Carl Spencer - Cover girl - Rust Ex dh £250 (Sought after oldie that doesn’t show up often! Multi-coloured ISSUE format, generally the vinyl is in excellent condition with a deep lustre, but visually it is impaired by a large scuff mark, but this DOES NOT affect the track playing Ex or better. What a fantastic slice of Soul with R&B influence this is, catchy dancer) Wendy Rene - Bar-b-q - Stax Ex+ £25 (All time classic, minor scuff on vinyl which DNAP and ring wear on label)
  13. The Monterey's - It hurts me so - Arwin books for 750 with John Manship in his latest guide, is it that rare and in-demand to realise such a value or has John managed to squeeze 750 out of this 45 on his Auction and valued it at what he achieved rather than what its really worth? I think I know the answer given some of the results I've seen!, but someone else's view would be helpful. Cheers, Lee

Bill Murphy, cracking version of what may be the most covered Northern tune ever!
  17. Nothing in Paphos, EVER, but I had em going in RAF Akrotiri (not open to general public!) during postings in the mid nineties and early noughties. These were my only ever forays into DJing, trying to turn the service world onto Northern, took some work but I eventually had em dancing right into the small hours at various clubs around this huge camp. I got so full of it I nearly convinced the programmer at BFBS Radio in Cyprus to let me do a spot every week, but the bloke doing commercial soul cried a lot and it never happened. Imagine lying on a beach in Protaras, Aiya Napa, Ladies Mile or Curium hearing Northern monsters blaring out over the beach from Taverna speakers just like Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam, what memories.

  19. Rick, I have had 2 copies (still got one for myself) of the black label with silver writing label, which I assumed may be a re-press. But after some time spent asking around I have come to the conclusion that the re-press is the yellow label version and any thought that the original may have come out on the half red half black Twin Hits label are as of yet unfounded. I have asked several collectors in the US who have extensive Twin Hits collections who say that Val Palmer was only released on the budget black an silver label. I can't be sure that this is entirely true, but my research has never thrown up positive proof that this Artist was issued on the red and black label. If you discover any different please let me know. Lee
  20. Ditto - messages full Carl Hall for me. Cheers
