Mr Manships Auction Results 20-6-2012
picked up the exact same Jackie Wilson LP on Calender here in Melbourne 2 days ago for $25 bux...but thats the first one I've seen not on Brunswick floating round, so 50 pounds is probably about right. Always fasinated to see how items that in their orginal format are common, go when the aussie or New Zealand or Brazilan copy gets put up for sale.

Barbara Acklin-Am I The Same Girl-Mca British
Barbara Acklin goes for good money on Aussie Coral or Ampar...one of them. Earlier this year a really nice copy of a male vocal version of the tune by "orlando" whoever the devil that is , on a british label went for around 75 quid. The Salena Jones take is also well worth a listen...on DECCA i think..... Last year I managed to get ahold of a pretty obscure aussie take by a country pop singer Alison Durbin" on an Aussie Columbia 45...it's a bit slower and chilled out....whatever version...it's a ripping bloody tune!

Right , Aussie Nationals on this weekend so I thought I'd clear out a few 45s so I can afford the beer expenditure....Some lesser graded records in here , but they have been pretty heavily discounted to reflect this. Hope something takes your fancy ...I try to grade as conservatively as possible and I'm not in the habit of trying to rip soulies off...so if you're unhappy with your purchase I shall offer refunds less the postage...however this has never occurred in any sale I have made yet... THE CREATIONS - FOOTSTEPS/ A DREAM - ZODIA VG/EX (not sure how to grade this one. Both sides are mega clean and would get an EX grade, however the footsteps side has one ugly mark which causes auditible clicks for the first 30 seconds of the record, after which the record plays pretty well...certainly has been fine for djing for me. The flip Side with 'Dream' on it plays perfectly. Actually a much much nicer copy than the many battered ones floating about. Clean and tidy, but with one rather ugly mark....so I'm grading VG - grade aside, this is a double sider of immense quality! 30 SOLD! Margie Mills - Who Was She?
Really bizzare to hear she might be from Melbourne.....played her RCA ballad "you'll know I'm around" a couple of months ago in bar in Melbourne city...always liked the record as it has a big city feel to it , big production and all that....funny then to think the voice came from sleepy 1960's Melbourne.

Whats The First Tune You Play When You Spin Your 45S At Home?
Like to play a few ballads in the morning before I nick off to uni ...this morning I played the Notations 'i'm still here' on Twinight followed by Jo ann garrett "I've got to be loved' on DUO.....two nice Chicago flips to start the day.
-
What Rare Record Have You Accidentally Broken ?
Jimmie Ellis - Happy to be on CENTURY CITY .....purchased a nice decent copy and then played it with a cheap shitty stylus (prob with a lot much wieght on it) without thinking and it got massive cueburn...bloody tragic....other than drunkenly buying 'the snake' by Liverpool 5 on RCA, it rates as my most stupid record related act!

Best City In Usa For Looking For Soul Records?
Hey all , heading stateside this Febuary and just in the planning stage now. Apart from New York, I'm looking to head somewhere else for a week whilst my travel buddies are building snow men out canada way. Other than Simpsons references my knowledge of American cities is very poor indeed...so I thought I would choose the one with the best array of record shops....I thought detroit, Chicago and Philly would be the obvious choices but maybe there is a better city out there for records? I know people on here are far and wide travelled in this business of crate digging and was wondering if anyone could pass on their advice as to which city they have found to be the best for finding soul 45s? Thanks, Muchly, Daniel.

Personally , for a JA record I would take Jackie Opals Eternal love with the immense cry me a river on the flip...fairly cheap on orginal JA label and UK King...what a cracker!
