Bill Spoon Highland
Aye, a toughie to find on Highland... I reckon 3 figures with a £ sign at the front rather than a $ sign might not be totally unthinkable nowadays (if one showed up).... To be honest, I'd have been interested in the Craig M one if i'd seen it.... Someone please tell me I'm out of my mind completely, and offer us both one for £25 each!

Nicky Newarkers - Help Please
Here's an unusual one for you folks, and a cry for help.... I've 'lost' my Nicky Newarkers. ... I was sorting stuff to 'play out' recently, and thought the NN definitely needed to go back into the playbox for the next 'do' I was doing... But after digging in every conceivable place it could possibly be, and in ever increasing stages of upset-ness, I'm resigned to the fact that it's just 'not there' anymore.... I'm going to blame myself for not paying enough attention. I can only think that I've put it down when playing out and it's somehow got knocked off a table or something similar... Even now, I think of it lying under a stage somewhere, weeping gently and waiting for daddy to come back and take it home and make everything alright... The alternative possible reasons for it not being there are not ones that I wish to contemplate in my sunshiney world..... So! I know it's probably the longest of long-shots but if anyone has spotted a 'stray' Nicky Newarkers anywhere, or if anyone has any handy hints that could help towards us being emotionally re-united, then please pm me and let me know... A reward, and eternal gratitude, awaits..... Yours anxiously Steve

Gloria Gaynor - "tell Me How"
I played it at Arties Mill, Sailmakers and Winter Gardens modern room John. Went well with Bobby Womack 'Give It Up', then that, then Esther Phillips 'Changin' (or it did at the time anyway! ) No doubt many other places as well?....

Gary Muse (Grimsby) Rip
Such sad, sad news. A couple of weeks ago I was sauntering down Seaview Street in Cleethorpes when I heard someone shout of me. It was Gaz , in his car out on some errand or other, or whatever.... I'd not seen Gaz for a while and we ended up having a half an hour natter about all sorts of things cleethorpes-ish/grimsby-ish/soul-ish etc etc, and just generally catching up, like you do.... I'm so glad we caught up. Garry Muse. A true gent. RIP mate.

Remarkable
Without regressing to my previous post too much, for me it's simply about the combination of the voice, the setting and the potential story behind the story.... And then the pictures that all of that potentially paint...... Even if this had been a total set up, with us all mugged off, then the same pictures would have been there. For example..... And this might be a slightly left-field example but stick with me.... When I watch Quadrophenia (which I feel the need for a couple or 3 times a year at least, especially after an infrequent mod-ish night out.....) I'm transported to another time, another place. Hey, it might not work for everyone, but it works for me.... And the participants therein are basically a combined bunch of late 70's/early 80's revivalist wanabees and screen luvvies running around pretending to be someone they're not. But to me they capture a spirit and allow me to fill in the gaps from my own imagination..... Just like when I listen to Freddie Scott's Mr Heartache and feel much, so much, more than just the words and the notes..... (No, don't worry, sometimes even I don't know what I'm on about either...... ) Anyway, I can't say that anything in the other clips changed that opinion... In fact, the other clips probably enhance the tale, and allow the pictures to be painted just that little bit more vividly ....

Remarkable
I think I know what you're saying Pete, and part of me would of course agree...... Based upon the plethora of amazing voices that we soul fans have been exposed to over the many years, I suppose we could say that the actual 'voice' is maybe a decent 'average'? And based upon the usual standards upon which we make our 'judgements' then, well, I suppose he's alright..... And yes, there are probably 'buskers' and street performers all over the world as good, better, worse etc etc However... Maybe it doesn't come much more 'soulful' than to be resigned to your twighlight years, knowing that all of your hopes, all your dreams, have been consigned to the filing cabinet of life as you while away your final mortal hours in the unwelcome recesses of the reaper's departure lounge.... And going out and doing the only thing you know that you think you might be good at, and that might, just might, put food on the table today. And performing, once again, with all of your heart and soul, what you know best and what for so many years was the basis of your cruelly unfulfilled dream, in the dark and unforgiving depths of the underground. And being reminded at every, single, performance of the ultimate futility of the misplaced optimism you showed in the heady days of the springtime of your life..... And knowing that the only 'future' to look forward to now is that your hopes and dreams will soon be buried under a tombstone......... Then again he might just be doing it for a laugh, and at the end of the day he's just an old geezer singing karaoke...... But to me, it's like when I listen to those tunes that take me to another time, another place... It's all about painting pictures.... Or summat.

Aye and I in turn bought it off you (if it was that same one)! Same deal when I had The Ellusions off you.... Must've been 8 or 9 years ago?? I eventually traded Robin Rice onto John Manship... Tell you what, I can't remember what I did yesterday half the time and sometimes have difficulty remembering my own name but it's amazing how you remember who you had records off innit?...

Actually, following on from my ridiculous post above, Ian had probably played it at The Mecca anyway...??
-
Spontanes
I'll see your 2000 and raise you 3 years..... He had maybe heard me play it at Cleethorpes Winter Gardens after I'd bought it at Yarmouth in '97, and also stuck it on a few tapes at the time... Then again, maybe not... 1996 anyone? 1995?... Come on there must be someone out there who played it as a new release!
