One of the first of the legends that I got into as a boy. Gone but not forgotten. RIP Paul
  6. Just taking it back to March 1973, I got a Tenner to spend for my 15th birthday. Train from Burscough to Preston, into the record shop on Preston bus station and bought amongst others Reissues/pressings of Right track on Okeh(both the vocal & instru on identical records I believe). The Charge TKOs. But also 2 brand new releases "Love Train" the O'Jays On CBS and Timmy Thomas "Why Can't We Live Together". Probably the lst time I bought a new recording. (In those days I liked both types of music, Northern and Soul) Just though I'd mention it Paul
  7. From what I remember , Little Lee Howell was Marc Copage, as mentioned previously Eddie Foster I am a Painter was the Black Abbotts, Casino Brothers was Casanova Two, we all know Freddie & Estella and Johnny Jackson, and the End of the World is Sidras theme. Anyone know any of the rest? If they ever existed. Paul
  8. "Run Run Baby" The Marshall Brothers or something similar, springs to mind from early Wigan. Paul
  9. I must mention the kettle drums at the beginning of Skiing In The Snow, you would be on the dance floor before the first note on the sax. Awsome. IMHO Paul
  10. You do know that when you down load it to Roxio audiocentral it says "Brenton Wood-Two Time Looser"? is this some type of clue, because I've never heard it before and I quite like it. C'mon what is it? Paul
  11. I have heard of this version, but that is the first time i've heard it. It is feckin' brilliant. Do you think the Spyder knew that there would be anoraks like us that would be into Him, Chuck, Billy, Jackie, Smokey?. Great record from a real genius. IMHO Generally though I don't like spiders. Paul
  12. Ain't that the problem nowadays, everyone is only interested in Prophets! Paul

  17. Was it the verve that said the drugs don't work?. Well they obviously used too Paul By the way, I've just got broadband so I am a bit upload happy at the moment.
  18. Lovely organ Matron. Love the title of the B side to Alan Haven "Romance In The North Sea" Obviously for all those Cleethorpes people out there Paul
  19. Following on from the worst ever "northern" record ever etc. While flicking through my vinyl for the first time in years, I came across this abomination. Question 1 is what was the DJ thinking?. And question 2 is why have I got a copy?(this is the more worrying question) . Paul
  20. Check this Mecca playlist out for 1974. I know a lot of them, but does anyone know all of them? Amongst others, I have noticed the ultra soulful Russ Abbot track. Paul

Sorry, but I always liked the Fugitives take on "Don't Play That Song" (in a strange sort of way). I preferred it to the A side. Paul
  22. He sounded normal speed at the time, or was I syncronised. Paul
  23. John Peel fronted a Series on Radio1 in about 1973 about underground or "cult" music scenes, or something. One was about Northern and a certain Mr Levine was interviewed as the expert, and some tracks were played. The only two I remember were "Love On A Mountain Top", which became a hit soon after, and the sublime "I Just Can't Live My Life". Peely later declared the Northern scene the only true underground, and he became a momentary Northern, and Linda Jones fan, playing tracks by her quite often until he discovered something else. Paul
