Children At Allnighters
Sat and read ALL of this last night, then went to bed and had a think about it. Got to vote no to children as I did feel uneasy at such a young child at Radcliffe. (wasn't sure if he was there all night tho). On the other hand, there are young adults who fit right in but then I don't class them as children. I didn't go to my first all-niter til I was 18 (I didn't cross my mother) but I sure as hell was desperate to. I still think if the yonug adults (16-18) really wanna go and have adult supervision, then they should be welcomed but children younger than that shouldn't be encouraged to stay up all night (plenty of all-dayer/soul venues out there)...

...Soz I missed your question Simon, I haven't been on here for a while as it got to the usual boring going round in circles stuff... probably why no one else has answered... I've always thought that young adults should be encouraged as long as they want to be there and not because the parents can't get a babysitter. Lottie has also been to Rugby and didn't look at all out of place. When we had alldays there did seem to be more younger people but I think at all-niters, I would be a little concerned at the very young being there all night. One of our all-niters clashed with my daughters 13th birthday, she was desperate to come along but she sat at the door with me and left by 11pm. I know I wouldn't be comfortable taking her along all night at her age but then every parent does what they think is right.

Allnighter Enticer
Loved the seedy venues as a youngster but much prefer nice loos etc now, it's a grown-up thing, don't like to slum it anymore... I think if you gave an all-niter a go, you may be pleasantly suprised...it is defo more of a social event now as most can't dance all night...

Nice post Matt. Even with the clash and the effect it will have on our numbers, I did find myself feeling sorry for Phil. I think this problem has been bubbling away for a long time and he just seemed to be the poor sod who got both barrels. I don't think there will be a solution as it is a free world and as such everyone and anyone can run a venue if they so wish. and defo good luck to anyone who does coz you will need it IMO...

I think I just live with my rose tinted specs on and try to see the best in people... Phil and I have been e-mailing eack other back and forth, so I can vouch for the apology and I thought we were actually thrashing things out until his wife opened my last e-mail and told me not to bother replying... I feel that this thread has been highjacked and is completely off topic, so I welcomed the fact that we were talking off forum. I think people assumed you were local to an event you were running as that is usually the norm.

And in that sentence, you have made a very valid point. The clash has split the crowd...

I did guess that from a post on another thread... I've got to admit when I first saw your post I thought "Oh no, not another one starting." That must be 4 anounced this month and in this climate they must be mad but the point is, however hard a pill it is to swallow, you and anyone else who wants to give it a go, are perfectly entitled to do so. This is why I wished you good luck because you may need it. When we first started, we were, in the main, treated very well by other promoters (altho things weren't so busy then) and I would like to think that I would treat people the same way. Did you not think to look on the all-niter planner when you picked the date?

...You may not recognise me as I am female (I think) and I also don't DJ......

...Oh well at least we have a nice public apology and we wont be accused of arranging our dates to diss you... Good luck...

I seem to have written this on a few other threads but as it's been put on one forum, I suppose I should write it again. The Benn hall is a popular venue in Rugby and to get the same dates every year, we have to book up to 7 years in advance... And we still get people offering us money to use the Benn for their wedding etc. I do put up the dates on here and on the web site. And as Chalky says, a lot of us do talk. I can give out my dates to anyone who wants them... But because of this, it does make it hard for us to be flexible for the soul scene. I have even had apologies from other promoters who clashed with us because of not being able to get any other date. It is a free world and no one has the given right to demand that their date is theirs and no one elses but I've got to admit, it does effect numbers and it would be a perfect world if there were no clashes. Another point, I know the all-niter crowd like them to start and finish later but as we started as a soul nite and still get support from a lot of those who don't wish to stay all-nite, we decided to run from 8pm and offer those who came in the first hour, a discount. We have no choice in the finish time as that is as late as the management will allow. I'm not sure that this thread will help in anyway but I suppose it's a good way of putting your own point across...

Allnighter Enticer

Joey Delorenzo - Wake Up
That just shows our different tastes, I would get up and dance to Joey but hate Benny Spellman, too like Fortune Teller...always fast forward that track if it comes on in the car...

The Outrigger 1984
I'd never seen that before but loved the Outrigger... I remember the first time I went there and the modette girls were freeking out to shake a tail feather, scared the life out of me... It was a brilliant atmosphere tho...you just had to be careful on the way out as the locals took to beating the crap out of you. The last time we turned up and it had been closed down, apparently the owner had run off with the takings...

My Dirty Little Secret

My Dirty Little Secret
You forgot to say, you also go out in a skirt... I'll be popping up to York on Saturday and I've promised to do a CD of sing-a-long stuff after coming home from Madchester last week and desperately wanting to sing at the top of my voice (Dean always tells me to shhh when he's in the car)... (poor Phil)... I had someone request the snake for me at a soul nite thinking I'd be embarassed......Up I got and danced my little socks off and forgot just what a danceable tune it was...only at Nuneaton tho......the last one I found myself dancing to Hey little way out girl...just like going back to my teens... Never be ashamed to have fun, we're a long time dead...

First Showing Of The Movie "soulboy"
Well I'm quite looking forward to watching it but only if it comes to the cinema in Rugby, I only travel for the real thing... I also watched Grease and Quadrophenia and enjoyed them the first time but the later times were more fun picking the faults... Do they really line dance and clap with their arms in the air......shouldn't have been too hard to get that bit right. Chalky, now I know you don't like clapping, I will do it all the more...
