Favourite Oldie
Couldn't agree more. Didn't Barry White produce it? I remember Dave Godin tipping it in a B&S mag back around 71 along with Viola Wills I Got Love. Two storming sounds on UK president on big fat vinyl grooves.

Tell Me This Is A Joke
What is the current value of Rare Stamps? Any idea anyone?

Records Re-united
Slightly off topic, but I bought a copy of a Booker T. classic Time is Tight. It was in a junk shop. Some joker had scratched out the word "Time" on the label and scrawled the name "Jan" in red pen above it. Maybe it was my imagination, but I'm certain I could see the pent up frustration in his desperate handwriting.

Inter City Soul Club
Interesting to see who played there in 67; Maxine Brown, The Vibrations, Edwin Starr, The Jimmy McGriff "organ trio", and many more. Wow!

Inter City Soul Club
We never cleared this up - is John Harvey still living? And anyone remember his mate ex Graduate Records in Wolverhampton, Roger someone... They were partners in a record stall on Worcester's market before Kokak started the Inter City thing.

Favourite Oldie
Just now I'm playing... Mel Brit - She'll come running back This heart of mine - The Artistics You're not loving a beginner - Jesse Fisher Don't think I'll ever tire of those three!

Cashing In
My advice: don't sell unless you absolutely have to. I sold my British collection in 1981 and it's one of the biggest mistakes I ever made. I long to get those records back, but unless I win the lottery I'll never afford them again.

Solar Radio - Congrats
Just a word of appreciation at the turn of the year to Solar Radio for flying a soulful flag amidst the dull mediocrity of British radio. I'm a fan. Support these guys; they deserve it. Colin

Still A Motown Lover At Heart ?
You're a man of taste. Probably the best Motown record ever. Was playing it this morning. Still gives me shimmers 35 years after I first heard it. Just one thing though; if you're spinning it off CD, try and kick it into mono; the stereo mix spoils it.

Still A Motown Lover At Heart ?
Can't imagine my world without the magic of Tamla Motown. The Temptations - Girls alright with me. Give it a spin and it's suddenly summer. Happy New Year to all. Colin

Yvonne Baker -you Didnt Say A Word
Excellent idea, but HUGE potential for arguments. I could imagine the errors/corrections being larger than the book itself!

Yvonne Baker -you Didnt Say A Word
You're absolutely right Neil. If you haven't heard it check out "You Only Live Twice" by Lorraine Chandler. A stunning Pied Piper production, that undoubtedly was made with Bond in mind.

Sorry Bout Dat - Syl Johnson
Thanks for posting the soundfiles Miff. He's got a great voice hasn't he? Not a cent held back!

Sorry Bout Dat - Syl Johnson
Very true. I thought Mod when I heard it. Chunky and cheap.

Sorry Bout Dat - Syl Johnson
It's the yellow label I found. Will flip it later. Cheers.

Sorry Bout Dat - Syl Johnson
Sorry bout dat - Syl Johnson. Picked up this little powerhouse at a car boot two weeks ago and I just got round to playing it. It's a bit knackered and I guess it's not a high ticket disc, but what a good groove. Anyone ever imagine hearing it out? Colin

Yvonne Baker -you Didnt Say A Word
Confused here. Are you saying that YDSAW was first played out in 1969?!
-
Yvonne Baker -you Didnt Say A Word
Bloody hell! I would have bet my house that was a Mecca record first off. Live and learn....

Lenis Guess
Tomangoes I dropped him a note and got a swift reply. Thanks for that. How did you track him down? I wonder if he'd pop onto the forum? I'm certain he'd get a warm welcome - not to mention a barrage of questions... Colin

Candi Staton + Fame
The more I hear it, the more I'm loving Candi Staton's You Got The Love. I'm not sure which mix I've got but it's got gorgeous stax like strings. Actually listened to the words for the first time last night and realised it's pure gospel. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I started to think; this is just as soulful as anything I've ever heard. Just shows that there's still soul in some modern dance music. Anyone agree? Also stumbled on the fame studios site, if anyone's interested here's a link https://www.fame2.com There's a good history of the studios, list of artists who've recorded there and even a rate card. Go to the photo gallery for groovy pics like this one of Lou Rawls. Hope you like it. Colin
