Urgently Wanted: Superglue
I sat on a copy of Bobby Williams (Sureshot) years ago. Snnnnaaaaap! Only paid four quid for it back then, but it still hurt like hell.

Memory Problems
Sounds like it was "Do The Teasy" by Joyce Bond. Came out on Island. If memory serves you may find it on one of the Goldmine North of Watford CD's

The Triumph Of Mediocrity
It's obvious to me that northern soul in any of it's genres will never attract a younger crowd now. Why? All else aside, the recordings are so lacking in potency compared to modern day house or r n b. They just don't have the bottom end punch that modern sound systms are built to deliver. The songs are also way too too short and unmixable. Second, the drugs are different. Try an E and you'll get the picture. Third, the lyrical content in soul is more often than not blues based; I lost my baby, I can't hold back the tears, Everythings wrong etc. Young clubbers high on E don't want that kind of message. Dance lyrics today (if you can call them that) are almost always postive, present tense active and uplifting. Designed to make you feel good. Just my two cents. Colin

Out On The Floor By Debbie Horsfield
She most recently wrote the series "Cutting it" - which almost certainly probably has nothing to do with amphetamine sulphate!

Lonely For You Baby
That Funk Brothers drum fill drives me insane. Overused or what!?

Out On The Floor By Debbie Horsfield
I remember seeing it and thinking how sad our scene has come to this. My memory of it is not a good one.

Jimmy Raye
Thanks guys. On my copy the matrix number is not stamped but scratched in. I guess that makes it a boot then?

Jimmy Raye --- Philly Dog Around The World Any tips on discerning the original KKC copy from the boots? Please, thank you! Col

Fast Wigan Stompers
Sandi Sheldon was played at Wigan as an oldie. By the time the Casino opened that slab of soul perfection had booted and of course dropped by the major DJ's.

Troy Keyes
Troy Keyes biggest song was almost certainly "You told your story" - wasn't it? Big favourite around the Midlands and certainly a Wheel spin.

Soulful House What Do You Think
As a loyal West Brom supporter, this causes me much pain to say, but witness a Wolves fan talking great sense! Absolutely agree 100%. Been spouting the self same view to anyone who'll listen for the past five years at least. Soulful house could well be the new Northern Soul. Obviously not for our generation, but quite possibly the next.

"you've Made Me So Very Happy"
I wouldn't be surpised if it was played at RnB venues. BS & T and Chicago were superb bands in their day.

Emidiscs - Them Were The Days
First one I ever got was Jamie - Eddie Holland. It was a single sider about 1971. Odd record! Still got a small few; Larue, Bari Track and a few more I can't recall.

Northern Soul
My brother in law was a local DJ and a huge record collector. I was just a kid but he turned me on to things like The Poets, Spellbinders, Donald Height etc around 1970. In those days they were simply known as "good disco records". He used to sneak me into his gigs and I'd hide in the kitchens just to soak up the vibe. When I was old enough I hit my first all dayer, and it mushroomed. What's your story?

Second Time Around
Like a lot of people around in '74, some of the modern spins took a while to grow. Recall my early loathing for Fantastic Johnny C, Don't Depend On Me. That changed of course!

If You Managed Joss Stone
Wrong Girl. Closest thing to crazy is by Katy Mellua. If memory serves she's an Aussie living and working in London. Mike Batt wrote and produced most of her album, which you might describe as bluesy pop. Joss Stone has a different kind of vibe. Her debut album featured some top session players from the soul heartlands.

The Wheel And Torch
Plenty of "imports" played in the latter days of The Wheel, especially Okeh and Brunswick stuff.

If You Managed Joss Stone
The gulpy breaths are probably due to an overdose of compression on the vocal.
