  1. I do think his career had two distinct halves to it, the anguished teen and the more sophisticated man, but we're open to all suggestions and comments so thanks for the ones above and please keep them coming Ady
  2. Is there enough interest in Darrow as a 70s artist to do a CD of all his 70s work which will feature quite a few good unissueds (only one or maybe two are dancers; very good though) to sell to a modern soul crowd without including his 60s stuff? His 3 big modern 45s will be on there. We'd do his 60s stuff separately if we did this. Or should we just do the very best of his overall career? This is market research from the 70s crowd really, we're pretty sure the 60s crowd would buy whichever has his big 60s numbers on them. Ady
  3. Only You'll Never Know by the Phillips Sisters came out on Dra, the flip was a different title. If anyone has either label I could do with a scan or borrow. Yes it's the same group as on Romark, all are Kent Harris related Cheers Ady
  4. Click, was a bit of a star and a loveable rogue who was great on the scene but you wouldn't want to meet him elsewhere. He gave it all up and became serious God Squad in the late 80s early 90s. Big mates with the Preston cybermen
  5. Guy played this at Stafford (Baby Doll) so it could well have been a Dickie discovery that he didn't stick with
  6. Same version as Sticks and Fingers on the Flash label Pete? Produced by of all people Louis Armstrong if I remember right.
  7. But it is friendlier hours nowadays. 10pm-6am instead of 1.30-8am. No membership needed now either.
  8. Kelmarsh disused railway station Northants May 1969. I'd enjoyed a poorly attended soul disco (Otis, Temps etc) early in the evening then 100 skinhead blokes and girls arrived and the music changed to records I'd never heard before but were still great soul. The skins were friendly (I was a long haired skinhead, a unique tribe at that time) and I danced away merrily on my own (the rest of my mates had gone home early). Ironically I was used to dancing on my own from underground/hippy dances where me and my mate would go bonkers idiot dancing; that and I was terrified of gurls! After that I didn't look back.
  9. That's nice Russell, they changed the song name to I'll keep Holding On. Joe Evans had quite a few Bell Sound acetates
  10. Great stuff Mike and his elves. My life would be much harder and much less fun without you. The sharing of knowledge is a wonderful thing (particularly from my starting point)
  11. I see it is registered as unknown writer on MCPS, why would that be when it is written on the record?
  12. Funnily enough there was a small "incident" at the 100 Club on Saturday due to a misunderstanding and people being a bit bolloxed. The overwhelming conclusion was that everybody's very happy to see younger people who are into the music and they can dance how the hell they like. Many are brilliant dancers and if you look at some of us older chaps, there's not too much competition anyway. pogoing's fine as long as it's vertical and doesn't use up extra floorspace (I have been known!)
  13. I'll pm you tomorrow or give Andy a ring later
  14. Your near Simon but no cigar I'll reveal the full story in the sleevenotes to Jackie's complete recordings CD end of September
  15. All the Kent Select with the City prefix are limited press Chris, that's why some have sold out. What's a guest list? I don't understand the concept!
  16. Only if we were selling out of them all. We're not, you're free to help if you fancy it.
  17. Thanks Ted, that answers my original question. Ady
  18. I've seen a scan of a boot of the label that says pressed under license on it (not from the label owners) but can't see it for sale on Ebay or Amazon. I see Rudzi has it in Leicester and another site but it doesn't seem to be about much. Any idea who did it and when? PM if necessary. Ady
  19. The Phelectron 45 Anyone got a scan or know where I can hear it or know the writer details? Ta Ady
  20. Anyone PM it me please? Ta Ady
  21. Steve, if you PM me your number I'll play mine down the phone later this afto or whenever's gopod for you, there's a very nice unissued you may like to hear too. Jock I know my birthday but often can't remember how old I am. Thanks for the offer, I'll only take you up if I can't collar Steve. Ady
  22. No leads on a soundfile people?
  23. Only the Kent Select (City prefix) are limited, I think five have sold out completely so far, but some of the regulars (Town prefix) sell out over time too. I just sent you wholesale contact details; if anyone else needs 'em just ask. Ady
  24. My story is we're doing a Darrow CD and have licensed it from the owners Ray Charles' Crossover productions. I have been sent a CDR by them with a track called 'Together'on it and want to see if it's the released version or even a different song. Ady
  25. Anyone know where I can hear a bit of it? Ady
