  1. Nice one, I've got a proper RCA acetate of that somewhere. ady
  2. We found half a dozen copies in Noo Joisey but I wasn't DJing then and I think Ian got it as a tip, so already discovered. Ady
  3. I actually put the words Social Anthropology as a joke, hopefully it won't be as dry or serious as that. If anyone thinks I've worked out what I'm going to say in a paper, they've never been to Cleethorpes. Advance planning isn't a strong point of mine. I'll no doubt be refining my opus on the train up. Licensing hasn't essentially changed since the early 70s but a few of our brethren have seemed a bit grey in the area over the years so maybe I can enlighten them a tad. I'll be looking for bouffant haired, North African originated Leeds lad on the back row: and possibly a Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen lookalike. Steve, fans an abbreviation of the word fanatic; perhaps Lucy was using it in that sense. Cheers Ady
  4. Fair comment Dave but I actually quite enjoy it still, as the longer it goes on the less I panic about it. It gets me out of the house, is on my doorstep and I get to hear fabulous music and meet terrific people. We have a contingency plan lined up for if it all goes tits up. A permanent home may take longer, or perhaps we'll join the travelling community and try a different one on for size until we come across a cracker like we did in 1980/1981. It could be like those dodgy raves where I text everybody the location half an hour before we kick off!
  5. Good news on Saturday at least, we can stay open until 6am new time so you won't have an extra hour wait for the trains. Because of that we'll open at 11pm so it'll still be 8 hours of Northern Soul heaven. To recap it's 11pm (old time) - 6am (new time) but because the clocks go back an hour at 2 am that's 8 hours! Ady
  6. It's in a big room 200+ so there should be plenty of room for anybody who decides to come along. Thurs aftos aren't usually rush hour in the Northern events world. Ady
  7. Tobi told me how the song was recorded. It was such an incredibly tough song to record, they did it in a series of small segments and spliced it all together. She has never sung the song in its entirety, even when she recorded it. That was one of the reasons she declined to sing for us at Cleethorpes last year.
  8. I got Paul an original recently for £300 to play in his DJ sets and soirees. The old boot I got him years ago must have worn out.
  9. Or Ms Babcock, you could come along and hear my informative talk about how to license US recordings for UK release, the pitfalls, the prat-falls and the way it benefits a lot of the artists, writers and producers who made this wonderful music that you seem to enjoy. It's not all about the past, there's plenty of Northern Soul life being lived.
  10. Hopefully getting an answer today or tomorrow Dave. You don't fancy 4 hours of coffee with Simon then? Ady
  11. Thanks Dani and everyone else who's made comments. Still no news about the club just a lot of speculation, it could go any of four basic ways 1 Jeff could get funding and carry on- result is we stay 2 It could get taken over by sympathetic promoters- result is we stay 3 it could get taken over by new music club management who can't fit us in-result is we go 4 Taken over by a business that ceases musical events- result is boo hoo:( It'll be a very odd night as any of these eventual outcomes could well happen before the Dec 11th nighter. Actually at the last nighter I had a suspicion that that could have been the last one and it would have been an anti-climactic way to leave the old place. I tried to catch the moment and just enjoy it for what it was, another run of the mill, great night under Oxford Street, it worked to an extent but has now been superseded by this Saturday's night. So again I'll enjoy it for what it is, feel some extra sadness at the end, thinking of the people I've known down there, but hope we can get through this with the usual 6TS spirit and good fortune. Ady
  12. I'll do my best Karen, though as a participant I might be a bit biased
  13. We're suitable candidates for social anthropology. I will be contemplating my own navel. If you wanna hear how we at Kent go about licensing and the sometimes hilarious consequences, or if you just wanna throw fruit, come along.
  14. I'm with Russell, you need to know it's an original. I've got a lot of those perforated six strips of the same title. When I find them I'll list up what I've got and maybe we can trade a few. Ever the collector Ady
  15. That's enough, thanks very much Ady
  16. Can anyone post up some sound of the flip please? Ta Ady
  17. I was being exactly that!
  18. Bootlegging juke box strips now Pete! That just devalued my Cooperettes Shing A Ling

Brilliant singer and character, I remember him on Ready Steady Go. Funnily my favourites by him are both covers Dylan's 'Maggie's Farm' and Jim Reeves 'He'll Have To Go'
  20. I think it was unusual, certainly nothing like the Bunky Esquires issues as far as I recall. White with black lettering I think, but my memory's not great from then, I was whooping it up a lot. Someone ask John Vincent, he was around recentish.
  21. To reiterate: I bought a white Bunky demo off Dave Burton in his Harlequin record shop in the early 70s, circa 1973, when Dave had a magnificent box of soul demos from a UK music business source, several went on to become Northern monsters. I sold it to John Vincent at St Ives in the later 70s. I remember asking John Anderson about it in the mid 70s in Val Shively's shop in Philly and he said it didn't exist; I put him right.
  22. Yep, tape only originally, then CD then Kent 45. Play away.
  23. Just back from the hols and trying to catch up. The 100 Club themselves have said nothing to me, so I'll try and arrange a meet next week. I've heard of various plans afoot, one of which I could get involved in. Thanks for the support and if I can find any means by which SS members can help then I'll post it here. Personally I'd want to continue at the 100 Club if possible under the current management or any new one that is acceptable to our nights. Failing that I'd like to relocate but would want to stay in central London which will be a hard ask. I enjoy the nights (particularly since our recent rallying cry) too much to just walk away from them. Ady
  24. Its appearance on the G***mine Northern Soul Of LA may have clouded the issue!
  25. The pedant in me would like to point out that Frank Wilson wasn't involved in Double Cooking, it was a San Francisco recording
