HI ALL IT'S ON A RARE MAMAS & PAPAS EP, FROM JAPAN, VERY RARE DAVE K- Relaunch of Tracks To Your Mind Fanzine
HI ALL Don't be so pedantic the person you are talking about is no barrow boy, and his intentions were to follow up with a 2nd issue, if t means that much I will pay you if it means that much to you after all these years, please don't put down my mates DAVE K- Chapter 5-Alternative Take?
HI ALL Pete could it be the South African copy, that Mick Smith had as that was longer, and not so gutsy just a thought DAVE K- April Stevens
HI ALL THERE ARE MANY 50ts ARTISTS, who have done 1 off tunes that mad it on the rare dance scene, in the 7t's some had more than just the 1 hit , Roy Hamiton the Olympics are just 2 of the many that come to mind, mind you April Stevens was a new one to me, I was 3 months old when that photo was taken 61 years ago? DAVE K- Jackie Trent - From £184 To Zero In 6 Months
HI ALL PETE, We could have a thread on the best mugging on the scene, mine is swapping a Velors BOOT for Levi Jackson DEMO with Mick S, who states I am the only person to do this on him. I did tell him it was a boot, DAVE- Jackie Trent - From £184 To Zero In 6 Months
HI ALL Pete I can never understand the madness of some people, Unless you are a dealer in records & are shrewd enough to be able to capitalise on what I consider are mad record buys, The problem comes about from rumour on the scene, about a certain 45, the best example I can give is STANKY DAY OFF BILLIE DAVIS cobblestone records, a record that had been knocking about for years at £2, yet for a reason I still can't get my head around even when people like myself were warning people that they were not buying a rare record, the record continued to sell, to such a status it was bootlegged, which sold well, about 5 years ago on ebay, I saw a UK copy off WILLIE HUTCH C/W BOBBY HUTTON sell for £150 explain that madness to me AS ALWAYS DAVE K- I Want Two Of These
HI ALL...These 7" decks were first made in 72, in a attempt to get into the disco market, TECHNIQUES decks initially were marketed to HI-FI ADDICTS, The most common decks were GARRARD SP2, SP3 DECKS never had the same feel as the SP2, I REMEMBER the 7" Techniques decks in RONNIE SCOTTS CLUB, but only for a short time, as the booth at UPSTAIRS at RONNIES had TECHNIQUES 1200, this tells me that at that time DJ did not like them or, and more to the point in 74 the record company started to put out 12" DICO RECORDS, The 12" record play at 45 rpm, had a far superior sound to the 7" disc, however the music I treasure is 7" vinyl as did most people who collected soul & reggae, back to them decks, if there are different types the later ones are probably bespoke & rare worth well over £200, DAVE K- Wigan Casino Playlist From The First Month
Hi All Not quite sure if the Jelly Beans come from the MECCA or VAVA's it is the type of stomper Richard would of played I am sure someone will tell us. However it is and was played in the first 6 months my 1st copy was on a black label boot, got my 1st real copy from John Anderson £5 it was a hard to get record for sure pre 76, as the bootleg records of the time prove, I still rate the record and is a great one to have in your box, Also all the records were played in 73, and that's the point PETE was making when he started the post, it's amazing how many records from the WHEEL TORCH YEARS, Got played to new ears and become WIGAN TUNES, this is why I it amazes me at some of the 3rd rate records that get played today over & over, when there are so many quality 45's out there & cheaper, however that's nothing to do with your question, "I mean you no good" DAVE K- Wigan Casino Playlist From The First Month
HI ALL...PETE As you are aware I am a big fan of your love of the history of the rare soul scene, and many of your writings would make good documentary's One day we will have a public tv network, which this info that you give freely will reach a bigger market, , October 73 was my first visit to the Casino, as your list shows and proves, that the success of the CASINO was in it's playlist, at a time when apart from some local clubs, the scene was starved of a top all-nighter sadly the VAVA got overlooked by most, all but the locals, even the great adverts did not capture the attention of most. For 6 months a rapid fall off of brothers & sisters who packed out the TORCH & JUNCTION fell of the scene only for a short period of time, but in that time the WIGAN DJ took on the very best tunes from clubs that had closed or only attracted locals, the playlist proves this, as for example many of the tunes on the list were played by Tony Dellerat the MALLET or PEP in the MIDLANDS and even purchased from Ian at the MECCA, As I say your list was played to many fresh ears the fact that the unfamiliar tunes were of the same class as the familiar, made the CASINO the best place to go in the UK, to me this success was also it's downfall as within a year some of the DJ at Wigan helped start new venues using the CASINO formula and slosh by finding the original DJ who discovered the records in the first place, To this day I could not tell you a RUSS record that was truly his find, can you, but I can tell you many from other DJ that are overlooked or get slagged off like IAN got, well maybe not as bad as IAN got, shame on some of you, A great list Pete and again freely given, RIGHT ON DAVE K AS ALWAYS- The Shirelles - Last Minute Miracle - Sceptre
HI ALL. PEDANTIC DAVE! that's a word I use every day along with Absolutely, at meetings when I wanted to make a speaker think they were talking sence, but really talking balls, it is the most effective way of shutting them up, the a pause, then However, then make your point of view, PSYCHOLAGY is an effective tool, However back to the price £10 to £15 for this TIP TOP TORCH GOODIE< or am I being Pedantic? I think not, AS ALWAYS DAVE K- Melba Moore - Magic Touch
HI ALL And well done you for wanting to no and respect the opinions of soul source members, And to get the nod from ADY the man who made it available to so many, that some people would never dream of such a generous gesture, which he does year in and year out, well done Ady As for rules on DJ at any venue the big no no is playing any of these rare so called pressings, when another DJhad a legit copy to play, some of the top collectors of rare records are being shit on with the over kill of these type 45s plus they are not collectable no matter what you may be told, unlike the Melba Moore record on the 6t's 100club gift as we are in the no about it's provenance, again this is the mark of SOUL BROTHERS like ADY honest and open transparent, he proves this by taking time out to personally give you the answer, and to conclude no I am not up ADY arsehole, in case someone thinks that way, RIGHT ON TO BOTH OF YOU DAVE K- Help With Price Please - Little Anthony
HI ALL....Looking at the price Pete has given for the Canadian copy, may be right, after all he buys & sells many 45s over the year, but the US copy is common although it may sell for £25 - £30 to-day, should equate that the Canadian copy should sell for £45 but as I say he would have a better idea of the market price, get yourself a UK DEMO that never goes for under £250 these days as it is for some reason much harder to find in comparison to other rare records on the label DAVE K- Rare Posters (For Soul Acts)
HI ALL I HAVE A FEW RICKY TIC CLUB POSTERS (ORIGANAL) 70'S ALL NIGHTER POSTERS YATE, ST IVES WIRRINA, WIGAN, A BOX OF HANDOUTS FROM THE WHEEL, TORCH, I HAVE POSTED THEM BEFORE, GOT ALL THE POSTERS THAT USE TO BE ON THE WALLS OF THE MERC CARNABY STREET, THEY WERE NEARLY THROWN INTO A SKIP?? HI ALL, I really can't agree with both valuations given, I except that you may of had a pay day with 1 person once upon a time, but that is not the normal price, I have a few various artist soul LP's from the 6t's on UK LABELS, MOST PICKED UP BELOW THEM PRICES, You should still be able to find a distributer with LP's as dead stock, £1 each, they are not rare, they are however good LP's DAVE K- Relaunch of Tracks To Your Mind Fanzine
HI TIM...It's about time, as this was one of the fanzines that had quality in it's context & in print, the articles on Paul Kyser & how the bands were linked, was superb in 76 I worked with KOOL & the GANG, who were also connected to the guys you wrote about, You can count me in on supporting this venture, Tim I have always looked up at you! RIGHT ON BROTHER, AS ALWAYS DAVE K- Help Please! Major Lance
- Cleaning Records With Lighter Fluid
HI ALL...As a record collector when cleaning my records, I have always used Meth's spirit, lighter fuel, & mild soapy water, as , lighter fuel is ideal for removing sticker & also hard snot from the groves, warn mild soapy water will remove 90% of crap, & meth's will finish the job, a anti static spray will finish the job, and while you are cleaning your 45's don't forget your deck needs cleaning as this is always attacks dust, so anti static polish is a recommendation as it's a neglected part of the cleaning proses always use lint free rags & cloths. DAVE K- Help Please! Major Lance
HI ALL....MAJOR LANCE OKeh-7250 "INVESTIGATE" b/w LITTLE YOUNG LOVER,, OKeh-7255 "IT'S THE BEAT" b/w "YOU'LL WANT ME .BACK" Are the only official company recordings, as DEMO'S & ISSUES,, anything else is a boot, INVESTIGATE had a picture sleeve, I think? HI YOUNG SOULSTER, AND WELCOME TO THE WORLDS LONGEST RUNNING YOUTH SUB CULTURE/MUSIC SCENE UNBROKEN SINCE IT EMERGED IN THE MID 6T's when the MODS adopted black music from JAMAICA & USofA in the form of SKA & ROCK STEADY, CHICARGO BLUES & R&B From both sides of the Mason Dixie Line DETROIT SOUL/TAMLA MOTOWN, & THE CLASSIC SOUL of STAX ATLANTIC, added to the music policy were the CLUBS most popular were the 12 to 6 clubs in SOHO that specialised in playing Black music, the first recognised SOUL ALL NIGHTER was the SCENE CLUB & outside London the TWISTED WHEEL KING MOJO,NIGHT OWL,, All the 6t's MOD clubs had live music, (sadly missing from the scene today, although not totally as Ady Croesdale ACE/KENT RECORDS 100 club DJ & promoter of he weekender concept, that does include live acts) many live acts were white UK groups that played their adapted cover version of R&B SOUL, at this point I would urge you to listen to the CD's of early SOUL CLUBS, THAT YOU CAN GET FROM GOLDMINE RECORDS AND THEN BUY 45's DAVE K- Clarence Carter
