Happy New Year to all my readers:-The ED Hi Just thought I would put up a few list addresses from the mid 7ts I have some early ones somewhere but the best were from Contempos lists always at the back of B&S which was the equivalent to the inner net in its early days don't you think I have not got a Carlos Bedford or REDERFUSION in Notts and I don't think MOORES did a list, As for Simon he lived in the Leicester shop I used to get free records from them and the Black Magic stuff also the cloth badge for black magic are all fake unless you got them direct as they were sent out to DJs DAVE THE BLADE The Phoenix news letter is free to you all for NEW Years DAY to read.XXX to you all

  8. HI Ya as they say UP NORTH! THE GIRL FROM WOLVERHAMPTON DOES UK PROUD - I think that her choice of songs let her down personally as most are forgettable and this would be my criticism OK she has played it safe and she is a star however she should co write songs to suit her style also if she does covers record like Stormy come to mind, if you compare her to other female UK singers she rate high but on hits if you compare with past stars you would remember the songs PP Arnold & Doris Troy went by with only 1 minor hit each all be it they ware classic? that's what Beverly lacks not having 2 to 3 classics in the can, I don't think I have met Beverley however I have net her Dad and his a true Gentleman also I worked with Westley the writer of her first hit "MOVING ON UP" (on the right side) a great bloke, and also her cousin DIANE who is better looking than Beverley and that's a fact DAVE KIL

Hi M8T onnce I think I have one as I sold the RARE Origanal to Mick and that must be a £1K record as the only one I ever saw was mine and I would be able to recognise it in seconds, one not sell but does give me a sort of right to play the boot??? DAVE(STOP & THINK)KIL
  10. Hi I have just Looked at Johnny Manships Auction latest and as I have all the UK stuff apart from that Jelly Beans thing on PYE that does not do it for me as my Eskee copy is at home snuggled up to his mates, if i found it junking it would be different don't you agree? Any way I have not spent more than £50 on the others and that £50 was for 1 record all the others were cheaper..now you got to take on board time & rarity factors and include them into equation HAPPY NEW YEAR DAVE KIL
  11. This subject I have mentioned before I am sure? anyway in the 7ts I used to do a bit of Roadying with my mate Ronan Wilson at Meteorlites his new company that emerged from the classic Wonder wart hog Roadshow which is now ELP based at Elstree, anyway when working with Kool & the Gang UK tour 76 which included Captain Fog ^ supported by FBI UK funky sort of band? I digress speaking one day to the Band about there roots Ed Kyser and that stuff the told me that the Motown organisation had every record ever made on tape this included vocal & instrumental slow and uptempo versions and they had dub plates with 4 instrumentals that were given to talent comp winners club singers and so on? so there could be a legit acetate out there, my advice for those who know Frank is get the complete run down as a producer he knows whats there any way yes all logic states it must exist DAVE9I KNOW NOTHING) KIL

  13. Hi Soulsters after being told of again by TED for using Bold type, sometimes I wish some people would consider the fact that my education came through my own efforts, as i was bought up in kids homes and approved schools at a time when corporal punishment was the main issue to avoid not spelling and so on if you can get the gist great! and for Te record this is not in any way aimed at Ted, as he is a very good geezer and like all of us he does suffer from Vilaitas a middle class thing! so I have been Informed? 1st things first cheers to you all about the boot all we need to do is find the source, it has no connection to labels like BJD GREENLIGHT SOULSOUND as they are LYNNDISC pressed 100% and the copy I have is a PHILIPS Press hence my suspicion of a Stevens/Abby/Godin collaboration it is well known to those who attended the Scene Flamingo & tiles that bootlegs and 2 page pamphlets on R&B were distributed in these clubs from 64 onwards until the first issues of SOUL HOME OF THE BLUES appeared and these newsletters had record lists on them unfortunately I don't have any as they are very rare indeed? this could give info on the boots, also I cant help making a connection with Sam Nesbits "Black Mother Goose" and this label?? and Mick remember the 777 or was it 444 Chris Jackson acetate that we traded at the Black Horse how come that does not get mentioned any where?? I still believe that there are a few semi legit white label out there, in particular Royce copy of the Ambassadors White Test Pres on JOX 005? this area of soul 45 collecting has always fascinated me? as it was done at a time by individuals who were well ahead of the Game..well lets Keep on Keeping on as more Info is required?? 2nd point the REVILOT acetate sounds to me like LIL Carl Carlton and is pure Detroit Magic, I am aware that US 45 collectors gave up on the Detroit sound years ago and the big value records are from the West Coast, However I don't have sheep head stamped on me? this is excellent ***** DAVE(not Bold on this one)KIL
  14. I am so sorry OLD CHUM, I see that the Claret & Blue was 50/50 this weekend? will try to keep to your request M8T DAVE
  15. Hi Soulsters can I make it clear that ROB has contacted myself regards his comment and he really did not mean it to cause anybody harm as it clearly had impacted me, And although he has apologised on this thread, I would like every one to except he really did not and would not intentionally cause malice, as Pete said it was a valid point that had in part already been done> It was the URGENCY of the issue that Pete FOCUSED on, and for one will always see Pete with a new view and not just a soul Brother as for the charity issue I feel again the comment was ill timed and as a Firm believer in charitable work Organisation like Cancer Research the RSPCA use at least 70% of there money not yours investing in stocks & shares and they also use the money to pay overpaid consultants wages? "I have never seen a poor DOCTOR" have you!! I think Pete should treat himself to a decent Christmas present for his sterling work and in the future "COUGH IF YOU WANNA GET OFF" DAVE KILWORTH ...HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY READER:- the ED
  16. The old Vic it makes me shuder now to remember how cheap we sold things for? as you say Dave 200 Larry Atkins I must of had 15 of them & whiskey talking on TARX, AcRied COOL , rules gil blanding so many sold cheap as you thought the country was full of them any one who got Sam Dees at the Vic come from me or Mick at £12 a go and then there was other stuff "girl across the street demo I got for £10 t was if all the prices from my days at the casino were not handed on and this was how todays big collectors mopped up? at least I have my Eli Grewich BABY a tip top sound from a great writer sadly passed away this year DAVE KIL

AND AS A RESULT INTERNALISEING THE WHOLE ISSUE AND REINFORCEING LOW SELF ESTEEM SRESS AND DEPESION ASSOMEONE WHO IS IN A DIFULCALT SITUATION AND NO i AM NOT AFTER MONEY , REMARKS LIKE THIS ONE SHOWS ME HOW IGNORATE AND SAD SELFISH INDERVIDUALS STILL EXIST ON THE SCENE, i TAKE IT YOU STILL DONT KNOW WHAT SOUL MEANS AFTER HOW MANY YEARS AND YOUR REMARKS ABOUT MONEY AND SELLING RECORDS RUNS SO CLOSE TO THE EDGE THAT YOU PROBERLY THINK THAT PROSTITUTES ARE THERE FOR TOGET RICH OF EASY MONEY RATHER THAN WOMEN WHO GET RAPED EVERY TIME THEY GO OUT AS THE RAPE IS BETTER THAN THE VIOLANCE NOT TO, PLEASE GET YOUSELF EDUCATED ABOUT THE FACTS OF LIFE! 21. NO Pete the credit goes to yourself, And I thought It was only Mick s,Jim S & Adey C who showed any interest in the goodies that have connection to my latency in particular Cloths from late 6ts Flyer's Badges Posters Books for example I have most of the collectibles NEL Books that matter and it,s not me looking back and buying stuff that was discovered last week year decade and so on? there are some exception around 45s but even then I restrict my collecting that's why I have not got Ray Merrel Sue Lynn Tony Middleton, I would love to own them But until I finish my collection I will maybe put them into the collection? Yes I love looking through picture books about soul or Youth Sub Cultures so here's a few more record collector missing 3 copies How Sad, MOD a very British Phenomenon - Well the 1st half (I hate it when people say the were Mods or Skins and you know they are on about 2tone OI! and The Mod revival??) and even worse people who get there mugs on telly and talk Sh*t Trever Nelson he is one of the When the Casino opened the only Nelson I was aware of was on a column or you smoked them?? Yes the Wheel Book, Spirit of 69 again the 1st bit and so on recommended don't buys are Young Gifted & Black here's another good example of using the word SKINHEAD on every page Ma is the author TWAT, The Paint House is an ex Book, as is the MOTOWN by David Morse 71 I got it when it come out, Albion Albion present from TAFFY when I had HEP non AB back in the 7ts this turned out to be Hep C and so on also must agree that Northern Soul Books are Sh*t but I like Dave Shaw & Glens Books as I can relate to his mantra about where the action was and Glen is a Stalwart of the LIECESTER NORTHHANTON SHIRE BEDFORDSHIRE SOUL SCENES and if we include Adey C you have 2 geezers who have done more for rare soul than any one from the North when put into context Dats Right sugar Momma I did say that as you cant call Cheshire or NOTTS & DARBY North
  22. fRANK IAN That sounds right to me as the only persons I have met know to gain proper acces to tapes profesionally and I would hope they would back me up on this are always with a engineer Adey, Richard, & John A Soul Bowl there may be others and of corse many dj has had there name on sleave notes I have a mention on some Trojan thing somwhere? cheers Ian DAVE KIL
  23. To name one book is not easy as I have not read that many that have kept me interested in the way a good thriller would and I cant really name you 1, however if I include Reference to the title rather than just book? recommendations would be for MANSHIPS GUIDE TO UK recordings which I do believe could only be achieved by John using the previous catalogues from findgroove and Pete Smiths Booklet on UK prices and all the snippets of info gained from fanzines and record lists plus his own business dealings , also the TOP 500 Northern Soul Records that when I fist got a copy it was a "Blue Blanket", Tony Cummings Philadelphia the sound of _ seems an age ago but cover to cover stuff "it is a shame that his book on the Norther Soul Scene was not published rumor was he had almost finished it? but does anyone know the next chapter"? - Paul Oliver's book the "story of the Blues" was such an undertaking that CBS bought out a Double LP with the same Title both book and LP are a must in any collection? in 1968 I found a copy of the book on hardback and then I got the soft back version over the years I have lost the original Hardback and writing this article realise it would be good to find a copy? but like most things it will be a lot more than the 1/6d I paid for it at Davids Bookshop in Letchworth?? But for me as much as I treasure all my Blues & Souls HBS and all the fanzines the most important and cherished are the series of Pete's Smiths Beating Rhythm as most copies were so informative and opinionated they put a different gloss on my own collection of UK label stuff and also allowed me not to buy unesscerry records and view collecting vinyl for vinyl sake this has saved me a fortune over the years as well as educating me into records that had past me by in particular BEN BROWN "Ask the Lonely" Polydor a classic and Cheap when he wrote about it (I have a Spare in Ex con with FL+PM) So There Is a bit of a list have omitted out Soul City Island/Sue & PAMA listing booklets as they are of no real interest to the majority of soul fans? Or are they DAVE KIL
