  1. Yes it is a totally shit record. I know someone who is into the heavy rock music shite and everytime I see him he constantly sings Footsee to me and drives me bozonkers. I tell him to f*** off and he says "Well its Northern Soul ay it" I have to admit I have a copy of the US Roulette Chosen Few vocal version.
  2. Somebody new was one of the rarer Us 45s quite a few years ago with a £1500 price tag at one point if I remember correctly but boatloads have been unearthed the last few years and is an easy 45 to pick up now. I bought my mint copy off Ebay last year for $60.00.
  3. Played this one last night at home. Great record
  4. Three great 45s that will cost peanuts.Forget some of the rubbish big money stuff , these will give you loads more listening pleasure. 1. Dont leave leave me - Al Green - Hot line. 2. Love - Gladys - O-Gee. 3. Harlem - Bill Withers - Sussex.
  5. Personally I think the playing of LPs at an event is farcical and worse than playing a bootleg 45.Its just not right.
  6. I understand the playing of US original 45s thing but what I cant work out is the playing of UK released 45s. What about the TMG series , should none of these be played, take Martha Reeves No one there which was never given a US release. And what about the UK Kent singles , dont a few DJs play these. And what about Action , original Soul city , Sue etc??? Another thing is when some top Djs are playing super rare unissued motown 45s , take Crying time what are they playing them off?
  7. I think Contempo also released the JJ Barnes Sweet Sherry track on an V/A compilation LP called Dance Dance Dance. Did'nt Edwin Starr also use the same backing track for a brilliant unissued track called Has it happened to you yet? Whatever the case Sweet Sherry is a superb track , so if I played this out on the Contempo label would I be approached by the chin strokers and soul patrol and banished from the scene forever as I would for playing any other UK Contempo 45????Where do you draw the line???
  8. Did you know Desmond Dekker & The Aces are playing at The Robin 2 R&B club in Biltson tonight Pete? Mind you he must be getting on a bit now.
  9. Pete, Can you play skiing in the snow for me on the request show please?

Sorry to hear this Phil. Good luck with your new venue.
  11. Ben Sherman , Lambretta and err Asda.
  12. The owners of the venue who know very little about soul music have decided to run the venue themselves and cut out the middlemen. The venue is effectivly finished.
  13. I have just been contacted by Phil Turner and have been given the very sad news that Junction 11 soul club has held its last event there as they have lost the venue. This is a big blow as it was one of the countries top nights. Click on the website for the official announcement. https://www.junction11.co.uk/

I dont want to defend this record in any way quality wise but the worst thing that ever happened to it was bieng covered by the dreadful Wigans Ovation in the 70s. The Invitations version was an authentic sixties recording and has played a valid and genuine part in the history of Northern soul and if someone wants to pay good money for it good on them. A US version of James Walsh Gypsy Band - Cuz its you girl fetched £125.00 on Ebay recently , and to me this is a far more waste of money . Horses for courses as they say.

  16. I have been trying to connect to Northern soul radio weekly show (Paddy Grady) for the last few days but it and all related links are offline. Is it just a technical fault or has it closed down completely. Anyone know?
  17. At least there's an authentic black fist on that compilation , not a purple one.
  18. Two cheapies that do the job. Make sure - The Dells. Together till the end of time - Brenda Holloway.
  19. Dave Hall - Look at me. It does it for me when those girly vocals kick in. Makes me go all soppy
  20. This 2003 K Tel diabolical effort has to be one of the worst ever for the cover design alone , and yes all the tracks have been re-mastered.Should have been called This is not Northern Soul. Was 99p at any good post office.
  21. Two I bought out of the charity shop this morning for 50p each which Ive just played that still sound as good as the first time I heard them. Gladys Knight & the Pips - Just walk in my shoes. One way out - Martha & Vandellas. Good value.
  22. Needle in a haystack comes to mind and I dont mean the song
  23. We dont seem to of had many polls on here lately so I thought I'd put this up while I was thinking about it today. Who was your favourite Marvin or JJ. both have been compared strongly vocally , J J apparently silenced by motown ( at Marvins request) for a period in the late 60s because of his similarity to Marvins vocals. I personally cannot seperate them with Please let me in bieng my all time top oldie which I think epitomises Northern soul but on the other hand absolutely love Take this heart of mine by Marvin. Both superb but what do you reckon? What are their finest moments?
  24. What type of organ was used on Handle it with care , a Rolf Harris stylophone. Its absolute rubbish. And yes Billy Preston did make a decent record with Let the music play which knocks that limp wristed effort in to a pile of shite. https://the.soulclub.org/stream/Billy_Prest..._Music_Play.ram
