Help Needed
Pat Sands (Of Pat Sands and The Pebbles), is retiring and her work colleagues would like to present her with a copy of her Sussex 45 framed alongside a picture of her and the band. The 45 is secured but we can't find a copy of a pic. If anyone has a pic of her or the band (maybe from an LP or something?), could they please get in touch? Any help appreciated.

I agree. (Also If Mr Coffey says it's so then I'd rely on his memory rather than a set of ears).

Photo Of The Magnetics
Just to keep the thread on track - The groups we're trying to etsbalish the lineage of are: The Volumes on Audio Arts/Impact and The Magnetics on Bonnie. IF the Magnetics photo is confirmed to be The Bonnie group then it surely is fair to assume that The Impact Volumes are a different group? To not have a single member the same would seem to lean towards them being different groups. You have a point Dave, reference the similar vocals on certain discs but... remember when The Soundmasters 45 was deemed DEFINITELY Morris Chestnut? With the groups (if they are separate groups), being linked by Duke Browner and Harry Balk, it does lead to a set of complicated circumstances that's for sure.

Photo Of The Magnetics
Andy, Fantastic pic. Was given the cold shoulder by Mr Browner a couple of years back when looking to tie a few of Harry Balk's details up. Point blank refused to chat about back in the day. (Harry mentioned the fact that Browner had at least two songs on Dena Barnes in the can also). Spoke at length a couple of weeks ago about The Magnetics with Rob Thomas and this pic was mentioned. I agree with you and I think the Allrite and the Bonnie group are possibly one and the same. Or at least there is a lineage there. Volumes = Magnetics?

Over Priced Records
Hi Kev, Yep, I agree with all you say. The big difference is that in Europe many collectors don't collect to DJ but still collect rare records. That type of collector, (in the main) is in short supply in the US. The travellers in the US are usually travelling to DJ at gigs whereas the majority of Europeans travel but don't DJ. It's a subtle but distinct difference in the 'scenes' in my experience. For instance: are you DJing at Ann Arbor? In UK there is a LARGE scene of collectors who have no real interest in DJing. But they are at gigs all over the country (and Europe). Hopefully as the US scene develops people will spread their wings and support each other's gigs by simply turning up, but that's way in the future I'd wager. The other main difference is that in the US many 'soul clubs' adopt a musical policy that will attract a broader musical fan. IE. 60s music that doesn't fall into the category of what would be traditionally regarded as 'soul', in order to get a larger crowd at their gigs. Nothing worse than flying 1000 miles, at considerable cost to find yourself sat on yer ass for half the night whilst the "Soul DJ" plays Brian Poole and The Tremeloes etc to his '60s stylee' audience. The US 'scene' is developing differently to the way the UK scene did (as you'd expect), it will be interesting to see if people stay the course as they get a little older. Good luck on the trip. Good Hunting!

- Barry White "what Am I Gonna Do With You"
Barry White - One of the most underated soulsters there is. Mainly due to his massive commercial success in the 70s with his Love Unlimited Sound. His full story including his early days as Gene West, Lee Barry etc and his association with a number of LA set ups is being produced now for a future issue of There's That Beat! . Watch this space... Favourite BW track - 'All In The Run Of A Day'- Over Priced Records
- What Are Your Thoughts On This?
You can add - Spain, Germany, Italy and shortly Switzerland to that list. The main problem is that people can't accept that the UK is predominantly a 'has been' scene and still think it all lies within 'walking distance'. The future lies overseas with youngsters. A vibrant, exciting, celebratory atmosphere at most gigs. No baggage, no politics, no CDs/bootlegs and NO DUFFY!- British Collecting
Had most UK things over the years. I'd agree with Pete - Billy Harner - Probably the toughest in my experience although the MGM Demo of Roy Hamilton proved elusive for a lo...o...o...n...g time too. Also Dave Fergie reckons a mint copy of Little Hank is also up there.- Email Address Needed
Can anyone give me Pete Fowler's (Formerly in OZ, now in Monaco?) new email address? Any help greatly appreciated.- Martin From Nottingham
Hi Mark, Saw Martin at Prestatyn in Feb. He's made a full recovery and was in good form Mate.- Those Hammered ,played Out 45s
Sell em?? SELL EM?? Are you right in yer head! One of the joys of colecting is pulling stuff out the boxes that you forgot you had.- Neglected Records
I think you'll find that this is a UK phenomenon Ian. The US and Continental European fans still like like it loud and fast Mate. Thank God.- Duffy's Dancers
But the Duffy 45 is still naff pap!- Duffy's Dancers
Paul, Build It.........They May Come.- Magnetics - Lady In Green
Hi Simon, Excellent. Even got the date on. My reasoning is that if Harry remembered The Volumes but not them being renamed The Magnetics then it's still only a rumour about them being one and the same line up. Thanks for scanning the reg cert. Nice! If only Andy had got Mr Browner to open up eh? - Barry White "what Am I Gonna Do With You"
