  1. Hi all, I'm trying to complete an article about Motowns international issues that were issued with Pic Sleeves. :search: Has anyone got any Canadian/Brazilian/Israeli/Mexican 45 60s issues? I haven't got any and would appreciate any details anyone can give me or point me in the right direction. Much obliged. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com :search:

  7. Uh?? Don't remember much outside The Allnighter World of the 70s mate! As far as foot tappin' Glenn Miller goes............err, maybe I should get out more then. Regards, Dave
  8. Ollie was a giant amongst many in the Detroit heyday. His contribution ranks up with the best. Everyone I've spoken to rated him as a 'stand up guy' too which is always nice. Once the article is on the website I'll send a link so any interested parties can review it. Regards, Dave
  9. Most Jobete artists from '62 - '69. If it's just the "raresoul" stuff you're looking for then these must deserve a mention in despatches: Magnetics Precisions Embers Otis Leavill Volumes AdLibs Dynamics Garland Green Lou Johnson Etc etc etc........... Still amazes me that most of the stuff we love, was mostly all overlooked at the time. Regards, Dave
  10. As I put the feelers out to try and kickstart a "Proper Norman Scene" here on the East Coast, a mates wife (American) observed...." WHAT?? You're going to try and get youngsters to listen to music that's 40 years old?? Are you insane?? That's like telling you when you were 18 that you should listen to Big Band music, like Glenn Miller, from WWII !! " She kinda put it all in perspective don't ya think? made me laugh tho. Regards, Dave
  11. Thanks Matey. Regards, Dave
  12. Hi all, Can someone tell me when and how Ollie passed on? Also......has anyone got a decent picture of him (from any era)? Tia guys, Regards, Dave

Love it all so long as it's good. Still love most oldies after 30 years. Just coz they're played out don't make 'em bad records all of a sudden. As a collector, there's still 1000s of the liccleblackshinybuggers I've never owned so the search never ends. In fact it gets more intense as every year passes there's stuff you only just heard and need to find. I find this "I'm now enlightened" attitude a load of bollox and a bit condescending. There's more hypocrisy on the "Northern Soul Scene " now than ever before in my opinion. Just luv it for what it is. Regards, Dave
  16. Dave you're obsessed buy yourself an issue for a change Can't Mate - The wife won't have it!! Still no one has replied re: tye W/Demo with "Broken" pieces on the B Side?? ANNEE1 Regards, Dave
  17. Come across this stuff fairly regularly. Even come across the old SoulSounds UK boots too. Regards, Dave
  18. You just missed the Orlando Record Fair. (It was crap anyway!)  You can get EVERY Floridian Record Shop that sells vinyl here: www.vinylrecordguide.com Even though I live here, I'm happy to post the record shops mate........You'll be lucky to still find a couple of Ric Tic issues nowadays! Bananas is the wharehouse referred to in the earlier post. Worth a look but they use the "guide" prices nowadays. Good luck anyway mate. Regards, Dave
  19. Can any US soul fans that are on the site send me an email with their whereabouts. Am trying to put together a database of "interested parties" with a view to maybe putting on a venue in Central Florida. TIA Regards, Dave Moore
  20. Anyone know anything about the W/Demo with the title: "Mend the BROKEN pieces" Dave

As already stated, the Epitome of sound was covered as Moses Smith, was even booted as this I think. This led to a rumour at the time that Moses Smith was the lead with the Epitome of Sound. Not sure of the exact date of the Otis Smith release but seem to remember that it was a recent (73?) issue. Scans of nicey minty whitey Demos below. Regards, Dave
  23. Not specifically talking about Mark B, but have to say, Pete has a valid point here. It doesn't make it right, but let's keep it real folks eh? How many people allow Bootleg CDs/Pressing sales in their venues? How many turn a blind eye to the bootleggers cos they also have a decent monthly sales list? "In the snakepit" - What on earth is all that about? The Funks were playing UK and some guys were STILL peddling this illegal stuff at the same time! (And this after a whole film dedicated to the unsung heroes of the label who were "ripped off" the first time round!!) Which promoters are adamant that ALL their DJs play the "real Mcoy". ( I know there are some), but the majority? The longer this "corporate image" of the bootleggers is allowed to go on then the more the "mainstream" punters will give them legitimacy. Like I say, it don't make it right - but let's be honest with each other about the whole issue. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck- then the odds are it's probably a duck! Regards, Dave
  24. When you have 30 years of "new music" to go at it's easy. I'm jealous! Wish I'd only just heard the likes of Cecil Washington, Tamala Lewis, Mel Britt, Sam Williams, Melvin Davis, Inspirations, Al Kent, Steve Mancha etc etc etc. You have quite a lot to look forward to young Master Barker!! Hope you get as much fun out of it all as I have! PS. Tell yer dad "Hi" and Dave says he wouldn't know a decent Detroit stomper if it sat up and bit his arse!! Regards, Dave Moore
  25. Dear Rotherham, Have seen the following "listed" as W/Demos on various lists over the years.... 120 - Edwin Starr - My Kind Of Woman / You're My Mellow - 1966 121 - Fantastic Four - Can't Stop Looking For My Baby / Just The Lonely - 1967 123 - Al Kent - The Way You Been Acting Lately / Instrumental -1967 The first 2 I have seen myself (although not managed to aquire them yet). I tried to validate the 123 with that nice Mr Ovenchip who had it on a list in the early 90s. He told me he had sold it to Carl Fortnum for 30 quid! (I have not seen this personally). Be aware that there is also a "dodgy" white label pressing of this 45). I believe there are W/Demos of the others knocking around but it's just a hunch. For some strange reason they seem to be few and far between. If you do locate any of them, I'd appreciate an update as I too am still trying to complete. Regards, Dave
