  1. Capitols - Day By Day / Little Things - GATEWAY 721 From 1964.
  2. Motown often gave the findished recording to a couple of different producers/masterers and pressed up small amount of copies and gave to radio DJs, then watched which version it was that started to take off and then they went with that one. For example there are different mixes of "This Old Heart Of Mine", "Heat Wave" etc. some of them with more bass, some with more tambourines etc. I guess this is what happened with the Jimmy Ruffin tune as well. Sometimes they rush-produced a tune to get it out on the radio, then perfected it for the proper national release. etc. etc. etc.
  3. It's sure is a different mix and drenched in echo. Prefer the "regular" one, but interesting to hear. Thanks for posting it up!
  4. It isn't mentioned and an alternative version isn't included on the "Complete Motown Singles 1959-1961" box-set, so I guess it isn't particularly well known. I haven't heard the echo-version, but it would be really nice to hear if you could post up an MP3 perhaps?
  5. Sorry, I can't help you with that Garden State Choir LP, but keep a lookout on eBay and a copy will most likely turn up. A copy sold for $9.29 buy-it-now only about a month ago. I don't end auctions early, so you'll have to place a bid via eBay for that Manhattans LP if you're interested in it.

  7. Can't help you out Gareth, but keep a lookout on eBay, they turn up every now and then and usually goes for about £40 each. The Dan Penn collectors market seems to have collapsed a bit lately. All 4 sides on those MGM 45s are superb in my opinion, especially "I Need Some One".
  8. I've got a copy which I might be persuaded to part with, but as you hint at, that's one ridiculously rare 45. PM me with trades or cash offer.
  9. I don't have the 45, but here's a scan of a photo copy of it which was posted on some forum a while ago:
  10. These auctions ends in about 2-3 hours. Thanks for looking!

  14. I'd like a copy of this 45 if anyone's selling. Please, PM me if so.
  15. I did just that, but I think it's very nice with a lovely Gene Page arrangement. It is sorted amongst my pop singles though...
  16. Bloody hell, you're right. My head is still smashed after the 8-hour DJing session I did yesterday... "Long Way" indeed is LP-only.
  17. Yes it was: (and there are plenty of copies on eBay)

Yes that one was REALLY impressive. It regularly sells for £25-£35 on eBay.
  21. Above you wrote about the releases as if they all were by the same band. I thought that you perhaps had been in touch with someone in the group(s?) and know for a fact that all of those 45s were recorded by the same group. I personally think that some (or all) are unrelated groups that by coincidence picked the same band name. Again, I'm not sure about this but just asked you in case you knew for sure. I only know the line-up for the Event group. Not really important as far as the music goes and all of the Determinations 45s I've heard have been good, I'm just interested.
  22. Are you sure that the King, Event, Dolphin and Mainstream 45s were all recorded by the same group?
  23. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
Off the top of my head... how about: New Orleans sounds PRELUDE label Early 80s CAPITOL releases Leroy Burgess related tunes etc. etc. etc.
  24. I've never seen a #406 and I suspect that it doesn't exist. I've had three different copies of this 45, two demos and one issue and all of them have been Broadway 503. Only one of the demos plays the "Hold Back The Tears" track. One demo and one issue plays the proper "One More Try" and it's clearly sung by an entirely different singer. I'll post up a soundclip below. The b-side is the same on all issues. Some scans below. This is the "Hold Back The Tears" mispress demo: Correct "One More Try" demo: Correct "One More Try" issue:
  25. It's a seriously superb tune. I've done quite some digging and searching and have checked out loads of tunes called "Hold Back The Tears" but as far as I know, that tune hasn't turned up on vinyl anywhere else apart from the mispressed Tommy Andre 45. Sounds a bit like Don Gardner singing to me.
