  1. As for setting the anti-skating... ALWAYS make sure that the turntable is absolutely 90 degrees aligned and doesn't lean towards one side or the other. Put a blank 45 (with no grooves at all) on the turntable. Drop down the needle. If it strays either inwards or outwards - adjust the anti-skating. When you have set the anti-skating properly, the needle is supposed to NOT move in any direction on the blank surface of the 45. It should just go round and round and round at the same spot. If this doesn't work, the turntable is either not properly aligned, there's too much weight or the anti-skating is shot. If so is the case. Refuse to play. It's just not worth ruining your 45s.

  3. Works fine over here. Would be nice if you could add a link to the actual MP3 files though so we don't have to pretend to be Sherlock Holmes in order to download the sound clips to our hard drives. I sorted it myself this time, but it would really make things easier and less time consuming if you add an option to download the files as well. Or am I just thick and can't find where to do it? And as for the sounds... Little Willie Faulk is inferior to the mindblowing Ree Flores version (which I love to pieces and wouldn't mind an original copy of) but still quite nice. Hamilton Movement is a great track. Eddie Billups is also OK. The rest of them are not for me.

Joneses - Who Loves You (mono/stereo) - EPIC demo - M- - SOLD (absolutely fantastic in-demand dancer from 1977, rumoured to be LP-only but was obviously released on 45 as well, it's DAMN hard to find copies of though) Ace Spectrum - Keep Holding On (mono/stereo) - ATLANTIC demo - M- - £25 (lovely uptempo dancer that is getting more and more spins, about 10 times better and more danceable than "Don't Send Nobody Else" in my opinion) Danderliers - All The Way / Walk On With Your Nose Up - MIDAS - EX+ - £40 (two in-demand sides, one uptempo and the other mid-tempo) Ella Fitzgerald - Get Ready - REPRISE - EX+ - £15 (the IMO best and very in-demand version of this classic tune) Betty Lavette - You'll Wake Up Wiser / Heart Of Gold - ATCO - EX (sol) - £15 (two great sides - one mellow mid-tempo and the other slightly funky) Smokey Robinson - Ever Had A Dream - TAMLA - M- - £10 (late 70's dancer) Thanks for looking! Take care! /Sebastian

It's called "Ol' Virginia Soul" and can be ordered from here: https://www.dcdrecords.com/arcania_virginia_soul.htm
  6. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in Record Sales
No it's not, but if you just want to have it on some format so you can listen to it, I can send you a high quality MP3 of the track or burn it on a CD for you. PM me if interested.
  7. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in Record Sales
Agreed. £40 for a bootleg is ridiculous. That amount of money would get you at least 5 CDs and about 100 tracks to listen to. And if it's SOOOOO important to have the tune on a piece of vinyl... why not go cut your own acetate for £25 or so (which by the way is perfectly legal as long as you don't sell it)?
  8. There are "broken" drum patterns all over the place, especially during the verses. That is the definition funk. If there's a broken drum pattern, it becomes funky. Play it next to Frank Wilson and then next to any random uptempo late 60s James Brown record and I can assure you that you'll find more resemblence to the latter.

If you're into pounding hard edged brutal r&b, that Ricky Allen 45 is about as good as it gets. A total stormer with great organ grinding in the background. Fantastic stuff and at a bargain price. Someone pick this up. The Lee Dorsey & Betty Harris duet is also fantastic and pure New Orleans heaven.
  12. Are the two Monzas 45s on the Moon label by the same group?

I think her "Ain't It Funny" on Bigtop is great.
  17. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
"Just Tell Him Jane Said Hello" I suppose. Released on Bigtop 3150 with "What's Wrong With Me" on the flip. Was also issued on UK London (HLX 9759).
  18. Yes. ;-) But seriously, just run the tip of your nail against the edge of the label (closest to the grooves), if you can feel an edge under which you could insert your nail (not that you NEED to do it) then it's styrene. If there's nothing to "grab hold of" then it's vinyl. By the way Mr. Trout, your copy of Philip James is on styrene.
  19. It is styrene if you can peel off the label from the 45 or if the label is painted onto the record (as on Amy, Mala, Bell, Togo 45s etc.). It is vinyl if the label is moulded into the vinyl and you CAN'T peel it off.

Sounds like Johnny Colon on Cotique to me. It's a fantastic tune if so. Love this kind of stuff and couldn't care less whether you could "dance northern" to it or not.
  21. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
That's a fantastic tune! Extremely fast and very funky.
  22. I have no idea... but I'll definitely be playing his "Shhhhhhh (For A Little While)" the next time I DJ at a northern venue. Fantastic tune with James shouting short phrases all over it and what sounds like him kicking the shit out of the Hammond B3 organ... A manic stomper.
  23. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
5 tunes I would champion if I DJed at northern venues more than once a year: Jimmy Ellis - Puttin' It On Your Mind - SALEM Fabulous Dimensions - I Can't Take It, Baby - SAPPHIRE Little Sherman & The Mod Swingers - Price Of Love - SAGPORT and ABC Shirley Wahls - Because I Love You - CALLA Danny White - Natural Soul Brother - SSS Most of them still with decent price tags as well.
  24. GONE NOW
  25. Was just reminded of the fact that I have a spare copy of David Flynn's and Ady Croasdell's old Dexter Manley cover-up: Boston Hitesmen - Can't Let It Ride - MTA w/d Nice atmospheric mid-tempo tune. The vinyl looks a bit scratchy, but plays fine except for a couple of clicks on the intro. No major stuff really, but click HERE to listen to an MP3 recorded directly from the 45. £45 including postage. PayPal payments only, please. Let me know if you're interested (fonzeus@telia.com). Thanks for looking!
