  1. Couldnt agree more Pete!
  2. Having read these libellous comments all I can say is that they're all true, or near enough to be thrown out of a court of law just in case I decide to sue. It might be worth it just to get enough cash for my next ticket to wherever. I decided to go to Cleethorpes at the last minute last week, and using the same resourcefulness that's allowed me to venture North and South by bus/train links since Adam was a lad, I arrived at the venue 'round midnite. It's a great way to travel and if I hadn't done so I wouldn't have met so many of you...wonderful people out there in the dark! tbc... gc
  3. Went to Wigan with Garry for the first time in 78 ( you as well Rob, remember? ) Been good mates & kept in touch ever since, even when he moved to Canterbury cos my mother in law lives down there. I've never met anyone who knows as many people, has travelled as many miles on public transport or who has been as consistently hardcore on the scene over the last 30 years! Top lad - definately an icon of the scene in my eyes.
  4. Garry looks younger now than he did when I met him in 1978!
  5. If he gets there in time Rob Dont know about a diary though everythings in his head, when I told him about a photo of him on here that Jon Buck had put up ( taken at Wigan in 79 ) he said " Oh yeah I remember that being taken" !

  11. Bob I agree with your definition of handbag stuff but IMO handbag tunes are more like Band of gold, Third finger left hand etc etc

  19. What a can of worms I just want a time machine to transport me back to 1974 - Life was so simple then
  20. Ged you are absolutely spot on but some people dont seem to get the point What would you pro "party time man" lot say if I said I thought Bee Gees - Night fever & Disco Inferno etc should be played? I like & could have a dance to both of these but they have as much relevance to the soul scene (my definition) as party time man
  21. As a parallel thread to the one "Records that couldnt make a comeback" Heres a few that shouldnt ever have seen a turntable: Lou Lawton - NICK nack.... Dean Barlow - 3rd window.. Kenny Thomas - Crazy world Futures - Party time man All absolute garbage Any more ?
  22. Whats unbelievable about that then mate please enlighten me
  23. Dont usually say a lot on here but this is my pet subject so here goes: IMO disco & rock n roll records ( sorry should that be modern & R&B? )have no place on the scene, if people like this music and want to go out and dance to it then thats fine by me - each to their own and all that but why this music has attached itself to the northern scene is beyond me. Before you all start shouting about moving on, keep an open mind, attracting young blood etc etc dont bother cos it doesnt wash I just dont like "R&B" or failed disco records and thats that. By the way I'm not an oldies freak who wants to go out and listen to the same played to death oldies every time either( Some people seem to think that if you're not into modern you must just want to listen to played out Wigan oldies ). The scene for me has always been about 60s SOUL from when I first started out in '74 with the classic stormers up to now when I'm a bit more into the mid tempo stuff. The problem I've got is that I'm not into travelling very far and all my local venues are either for the handbag crowd, the beer towel brigade or "across the board" ( see Chalky's comments above ) so if anyone out there fancies starting a night up in Mansfield to play quality 60s SOUL MUSIC you'll have my full support signed one frustrated soulie
