oh blimey ! Marvins "Midnight Love" album sums up this gentleman for me personally...... but how can i miss out the 'Harvey' label years, the collaboration with Johnny Bristol on those classic (and classy) Motown tracks, plus those pioneering years in 50's Rest in peace a true legend, very sad news IAN
  2. Hi Stu, It was nice meeting & talking to you I would love to take Mr. Tinkles i have taken him to a couple of 40's & 50's weekenders, so i just need to find a pet friendly hotel in the area Myself & Mr. Tinkles even wear matching hair ribbons..................so you can't miss us Debbie x
  3. I have met lot's of folk through Soul Source & it's so nice when you bump into them at a venue Debbie x

  6. You naughty man! but that does beat clapping It's nice to see folk enjoying the music by clapping but i would not do it, just because that's what your suppose to do Debbie x
  7. Im not a clapper ................because my hands are too busy doing other things when dancing Debbie x
  8. I remember many moons back having Johnny Sayles and Chubby Checker on the 'North' label. what was the background/history behind this particular label ? Wish i still had em both to be honest IAN
  9. I never knew Curtis Mayfield was involved in the Voices of East Harlem record until i looked at the label scan. Blimey
  10. sounds very much like the late 70's Nottm palais playlists. some good tunes listed in that compilation
  11. oh yeah, cracked all way through, Styrene seems to 'mate' well enough to play it
  12. Ian , i thought that Cool Jerk was the worst it has a big crack in it! still play's ok Debbie x
  13. best wishes to all who attend on the day. hope its a fitting tribute to a true legend Debbie & Ian
  14. I've always been led to believe that The Flirtations are (still) the original line up apart from one of the 'Gypsies' ?? anyway, i saw them once, could'nt wait for them to finish IAN
  15. At Nighters: Eddie Holman Jnr Walker Gene Chandler Curtis Mayfield Edwin Starr Tommy Hunt Major Lance P P Arnold (worst of the lot) Martha Reeves cant think of any more at all nighters, but ive seen many many acts inc Four Tops, Stevie, Temps, Maze, Bobby Womack etc
  16. oddly enough my issue of this looks an absolute disaster but plays fine. I can take care of myself (gene chandler) looks even worse but has no fidelity loss.... good old vinyl

blimey... i got lost in a time warp. maybe it was 77. i was only about 15/16

Actually, my mistake. I didnt make '77.... i first went in 78. Harrys mini bus, the Rice brothers, Paul Sadot, seems a bloody long time ago . very slippery dancefloor i recall. i also remember thumbing a lift there once, the truck driver dropped me off at Huntingdon station and i managed to get a lift with some guys who hotwired a car to get us the few miles to St Ives. I have no hesitation in saying that the recreation centre was a fab venue, the oldies room sticks in my mind as the best place to be at any soul club i've visited. pitch dark with just a light behind the decks..... even darker when Brian Rae's belly blocked the light

  22. Well said! We go to a venue to enjoy the music & if you don't know a tune, but really like the sound of it....................why not get on that floor & enjoy dancing to it It's not a competition on how good a dancer you are! Debbie x
  23. I know we all like to dance to our fav tunes but if i heard something i did not know..............if i liked it, i would dance to it Even our fav tunes were unknown to us at some point So i think its good to hear something that might not of been played for years, or even the odd tune that i have not heard before................... it makes a nice change I have said this before......................i do get a bit bored of hearing the same top ten tunes, especially when there is so many other great tunes that don't get played Debbie x
  24. Wonderful record. I played this at the Right Track, Peterboro a couple of months ago.......... I like to spin a few long forgotten tunes, got plenty more
