  5. In my local village at Woodhall Spa, i saw a poster up for........................Northern Soul Disco with live cover's band, ticket price £10 I could not tear it down quick enough! I doubt very much that they would of been playing record's Debbie x
  6. I did go to a Soul night many year's ago, where they were playing records, but when another dj walked in with a laptop & c.d's.............i walked out Debbie x
  7. Yes Ian, i did play from a laptop and CD's, but it was'nt a soul night, it was a private new yrs eve party............ I seem to remember getting bums off seats too

  9. The Deadbeats - No Second Chance And it's one of my fav tunes (I could not think of my ex as the one i loved , i was glad to see the back of him) Debbie x

  11. Gerri Thomas - look what i got Ian
  12. I find it amazing that a lot/most of these tunes listed in the thread have been played loads in the past year at venues we've been to. 2 of the above are a good example. Wayne fontana - Monaco ballroom Sapphires - Grosvenor last week ( i played it) I also heard 'soul step' not too long ago but can't remember exactly where as a side note, many folk say the oldies scene plays the same tired old tunes. . . . obvioulsy not the case if this thread is anything to go by
  13. yes Tony, Clyde, my eyes aint workin, tis early
  14. crikey. as a 'hobby' drummer and a fan of the early sticksmen. who was the best is pretty personal. yes Earl Young is up there, but so is Bernard Purdie and Clive Stubblefield (James Brown). they put the 'groove' into the soul/RnB recordings . good thread, IAN
  15. Hi, I used to have a website selling goods & people did buy from it If you can build the website yourself?, it does work out alot cheaper plus it pays to purchase the name for it, so no one else can use your name, that was a bit exspensive, but within about a few months or so.....it had paid for itself Depending on what you want to sell?, you could try setting up one of those free website's, to keep the cost's down & see how it goes?.........But i think it's worth giving it ago Please feel free to contact me with any questions about this. All the best, Debbie x
  16. Because there has been so much interest in clothing, i have started another thread on this subject, so it give's Paul a chance to stick to his original posting Thank you, Debbie x
  17. I have been known to swing my tassles at the odd Soul night! On my wedding day, i have told Ian my partner that i will be dressed as Betty Page, i love the Burlesque thing! Perhaps that's another reason i like the circle skirts.........i like a tight pulled in waist & when you spin, you flash your knickers! Debbie x
  18. blimey, hear these on a monthly basis... Bunny sigler, new yrs eve, Lou Pride, last saturday
  19. hahahahahahahhaaaaaaaa
  20. Thank you ever so much Jim that's very kind of you Debbie x
  21. Fair point Macca. Thankyou Jim for your kind comment too. NOW LETS GET BACK TO THE DANCE LESSONS
  22. I dont want to look exactly like someone else...........but yes that is a great look, the film Roman Holiday is my fav, have a look at the full skirt, a full skirt always gives you a tiny waist........it's stunning! Im also inspired by Betty Page & a Burlesque look, a bit of Biba & my fav Victorian Book, Alice In Wonderland, so i just like to add bit's of what i like, not a complete image, if you see what i mean? Debbie x
  23. The answer is yes................i did go to work, go to tesco's etc etc............through the 80's & 90's, But my dress is not really a typical, so called Northern Soul style & i dont think i look anything like, what they used to look like in the 70's, the only thing that is the same, is that im wearing a full skirt..............I was really inspired by Audrey Hepburn & i started wearing the late 1940's New Look Circle Skirts.........i do wear some 70's one's, & i have some brand new one's, but i would wear a full skirt even if i was not into Northern Soul, just because i like this design. I can't speak for the other ladies & gents who wear the old styles, you would have to ask them But the music i listen to, has nothing to do with my clothing................so i dont understand why alot of the men on here seem to have a bit of a problem with what i wear or you just can't get your head around it???.................It's a big old world out there & not all of us are the same (Sorry again Paul S) Debbie x
