I understand what your saying, but its a tricky one when your selling! Because i use an vintage pattern, but the fabric is modern, you have to be clear when you list something on a website or even on E bay, it has to be listed as vintage style, because the fabric is new, if you see what i mean? if you just put vintage, people will think the fabric is old & when they get it, oh my god, do they moan! I used to have a website a few years ago, selling vintage style Northern Soul Clothing & i had some orders for circle skirts from Australia & Japan I was quite suprised! Debbie x

Sounds superb to me Debbie x

Yes i can agree with that! Even with modern fashion, some people dont suit some styles You have just got to be yourself & dress for yourself I have had a couple of young girls come up to me at a venue, who loved seeing the circle skirts, as they have never seen the vintage dress before, its great to see them take an interest! Im afraid im just an old Historian who loves a bit of vintage history! But the main thing is, enjoy your music! Debbie x

The other user of this account................ Ok here goes! I like to see, & would love to hear the original records all the time & when i can afford it, i will buy them, but if it means not hearing a tune just because i dont have the original, then i would get out a 70s bootleg, because i just want to hear the music that im really passionate about, the only thing i dont really like, is when a dj puts a c.d on! To the chap playing for the first time.....Im not a dj, so i cannot give you advise as such, but i would just say enjoy yourself & give people what they want to hear! Debbie x

Now im not just an oldies girl, i do like a bit of rare & underplayed & we have tried a couple of the (without being rude), "chinstroker nights", (im not putting anyones venue down), but it seemed a bit quite with no atmosphere, & it took along time for people to want to get on the dancefloor, a few times i have got up for a dance on an empty floor because of this! We do go to Carl's nights, he always puts on a good do with a friendly welcome & people are on that dancefloor start to finish, thats the same for Mark & Rob the Grovnor lads, & im sure my partner Ian is looking forward to his dj spot there in Febuary, we will be hearing that Deadbeats then! So as long as Carl, Mark, Rob & all the great dj,s that play at these nights keep on going, so will we! Debbie x

Well said, yes enjoying yourself is the main thing! Debbie x

This thread was suppose to be about, how long will Northern Soul be around for, but people like you & a few of the others, (& its always the same people) who seem to have a problem with folk who wear some of the clothes, it is YOU who is rude & offensive, about the way people dress, if you dont like what people wear to some of the Soul nights, thats tough!, we are not all going to change for you! But just think about it for a moment, how would you feel if someone insulted your girlfriend of wife for the way she looked?, & because we choose to stick up for ourselves you dont like it, well this is your wake up call! If you insult people they will be offensive! Back to the thread......For me, it will go on for as long as myself, Ian & all our friends enjoy a good dance, in clothes that are ideal to dance in, (if you like to move) with really nice people, (who dress vintage & modern), at great venues that play in my opnion the right sort of music, i would like to hear a bit more Antellects & Deadbeats, but im working on that! If the scene did change to more of a modern music night, i would not be interested, & the impression im getting is that the modern scene is not very friendly, & all they seem to be interested in, is what other people are wearing (going by some of these threads), so there is plenty of so no thank you to that!. Debbie x p.s (This is for the usual suspects), If in every thread you need to put people down for the way they dress, maybe its because your bored & got nothing else better to do , go & get yourself a hobby & enjoy your life

well said Barney !! offensive and pathetic is how i would have put it. As others have said, the 'knockers' take the piss constantly out of the 'oldies' scene, but not ONCE are the comments reversed. but as you saw yourself on sat night, they can take the piss all they want. i'd rather go to a busy oldies night than a chin stroking event. there are more to oldies than the 'top 500' . without name dropping here,, anyone of the 'upfront/up their own backside/up my jacksie brigade, tell Ian Gee he is killing the scene. his records NEVER fail to amaze and impress me every single time i go to a venue and he is DJ'ing. Ridiculously rare and fabulous records that in no uncertain terms - "keep us interested" so piss off all you weasels and stick to your own little 'walter mitty' worlds and let those who want to (baggies or not) enjoy the classic NORTHERN SOUL we grew up with and will never grow out of as for me, it'll be over when I decide, not when some jumped up fool decides IAN

Joan, with all due respect, this thread is about 'DJ'ing for the first' time. regarding the bootleg/ovo discussion, we both feel strongly about the boot situation on ebay (and other sites), flooding the market with over priced and poor quality records that surprisingly , punters will pay ridiculous money for. As for the OVO policy, this is what I (IAN) personally find difficult. the reason being, the owning and playing of RE-ISSUES at an event seems to be frowned upon. We both own various originals AND legitimate re-issues, which on the very rare occasion i do an hour of oldies , do get played! I/We , for example, own a copy of Earl Jackson on british ABC, it seems that even this kind of thing is frowned upon by a few who think we (as soul lovers) should'nt be allowed to play! There's a difference between boots, re-issues and original vinyl, we all understand that. sorry for hijacking the thread, we're off to kingsway hall for a bit of 100mph IAN
