  6. The Jenges and Sin labels are interlinked. Harry is Harry Moon of 'Womans man' fame released on both Jenges and Sin. If you read this thread you will see the connections between labels and groups
  7. OK some minty tunes just in from the USA. These come from a guy who has the contents of his old long closed record shop in his basement. His shop closed 20 years ago so they have just been sat on the shelf. These are all about the condition. The vinyl on each looks immaculate although I'll use M- as the grading, and to use the current dealer bullshiiit some are in their "birth sleeves".....WFT is that all about ? Can't they just say company sleeve anymore ? P&P is £1.50 UK first, £2.50 recorded and special would be at cost. Worldwide standard airmail £5. Payment by PayPal F&F or add 4% to the total price if you want to use this route. Sounds files are from Youtube and not from the 45. The scans are the actual 45 label. PM any questions or queries Cheers REDUCTIONS +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 1. 8. The seller was offered far less than that sometime ago when discussing it with a UK collector. My advice, based on current interest, was to put it on Evilbay as prices are bonkers....not 20K bonkers...but he would get higher than offered. My guess was he'd get 5K plus... so not a million miles out in the end.

  10. The Tomahawk label was run by Ben Parsons out of Columbus GA. They recorded all sorts of stuff on the label from Folk to Funk. As it become more of a custom label a lot of the stuff is pretty scarce. Suggest you keep your eyes peeled on evil bay, on here or contact some of the well known dealers to see if you get a hit.

  12. It was like that with so many so called "rarities" these days. I can't believe that the Millionaires goes for such as price. When it was popular back in the 70's copies were so plentiful you could buy it for less than a Starbucks coffee today. Anyone and everyone had one. Same thing with the likes of Epitome of Sound. I guess its just demand from the oldies crowd and maybe those late to the party.
  13. Agreed. There is too much ego around it from some. That's why I also pick and choose which I read.
  14. Playlist are interesting for a few reasons...and I voted yes BTW First they can indicate the music policy of the venue. Second they can indicate the tastes of the DJ. Thirdly, taking the first and second into account it helps (me) make a decision on where I might want to go for a night out or even a day out.. Having said this, I've read loads of playlists on here over the years and now I read only about 10% of them, those where experience has shown me there will be something interesting, so I might only read particular lists by venue or DJ listed in the post who I know have a similar musical taste or policy to me. Over the years I've learned the venues and DJ's where its the usual fair of say Top 50 oldies, or R&B etc so I skip these. So I give them a useful vote yes
  15. I like the other side better anyway. They (Casuals) were part of the Glass City Review that was sponsored by Clark's record store. This 45 was recorded in the back of the Toledo record store in 1969. The label Glass City was the sister label to Clark's famed for Ramona Collins. Gus Walker was the arranger and musical force, as he was on all of the Glass City related records. The record seems to be the second release with Ramona Collins on Clark's, being the first. I was told many moons ago that there was a connection with Johnny Jones & King Casuals on Brunswick - but I think that's wrong and the person who told me was confused. Jones is from the south although he did live in Chicago for a time in the early sixties. His Brunswick releases came between 68-69 although one was leased from Peachtree.
  16. How did you sent it ? If you have sent it with some form of tracking you should be entitled to some compensation. If not it will be difficult but in the past I've just stuck to my guns and bugged them until they've agreed. Purchase price is irrelevant as you sold it now, posted it now and were paid now. From memory >>>> Recorded / Signed for you are covered automatically for £50 Special delivery by 9.00am is £50 and by 1.00pm is £500 and I think you can add insurance to this also. If you have just sent it normal post, then you may be lucky to get anything back without proof. Even if you have proof its about £20 max for items sent by first class post. Hope it works out. ATB
  17. Updated Info: Been asked a couple of questions regarding condition description. The "ticks" described are more like a light few crackles - there are NO jumps, skips etc. Apologies if my original description gave a different impression. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Up for grabs is the current in demand 45 for the low rider, group soul harmony scene. This has just sold recently on Ebay at $421 and another copy was listed at $700+. I've graded the condition at VG++ as on one part of the record there are some surface marks on the run in groove and onto the record which cause a few slight ticks crackles- particularly on the run in before the music. When the music starts it does overpower the ticks crackles which then disappears as the record gets going. The vinyl otherwise is bright and shiny. Happy to play it down the phone if you have any concerns. Jimmy Dockett & Techniques - My Dreams Come True - Flo-Feel VG++ £275 PM's please if interested Post are usual UK rates £1.50, £2.50 Recorded or Special £9. World wide £5 or special would be around £12. Paypal as F&F or add 4% As usual every sale 100% guaranteed refund if not happy
  18. Both the label variants seem to be Rite pressings from the plant in Ohio I believe. They have that distinctive dish in the middle.
  19. George Firstly I think Russell makes some good points in the fact that its probably close to its most popular today and we see this in the commercial use of soul tracks on TV adverts, programs etc. As for the age demographic, its true that at most events in the UK the attendees are in the 45 - 60 range. The main reasons are familiarity with and love of the music, socialising with old friends from across the country and of course there is a certain nostalgic "pull" in all of this, remembering our youth as it were. Some people have stuck with the scene from the early days, others have returned after marriage, kids etc. In the early days (for me around mid 70's when I was 13) it was about the music primarily but it was also about being part of something that wasn't mainstream but was 'underground'. Our parent didn't really understand it - all this staying out all night dancing, or hunkered over record boxes in some strange place miles away from home. Paradoxically commercial recognition was seen as the enemy of the scene - we didn't want the mainstream media involved. Today I see a small number of younger NS fans on the scene, probably dragged along by their parents initially, but eventually learning to love it and be part of it. Some promoters actively try to give younger DJ's a chance to spin. There are some on here who relatively young and can probably expand on their own thoughts. The scene in other parts of the world however is different and has a much younger demographic. Check out Youtube vids for venues in Europe, Scandinavia, US and Japan etc where the age relative to UK punters is much younger. I guess for these the NS sound and scene is culturally different to what they experience in their home nations. In my formative years it did shape my identity to some extent as the scene was allied to the white working classes by and large and thrived in the most industrial and dare I say it socio-economically deprived areas. At that period it also came along with its own dress code where you were easily identifiable as a soul fan, but you wanted this as part of your persona. Why is there nothing comparable today ? Difficult to answer but I guess its down to technology in the form of computers, internet etc which seems to have both changed behaviours and provide instant access to any new phenomenon sweeping across nations. You don't have to get out and experience it anymore - you can do that from your armchair. The internet is global so new trends are no longer hidden underground as some form of secret and our thirst for knowledge and new experiences can be satisfied via a screen and a Wi-Fi connection.
  20. I lived in Dubai for a few years and it didn't do my black treasures any harm when outside temps in summer have gone way above 50 C . Just keep them indoors out of direct sunlight. Anyway I think the melting point would be around 100 - 120 Deg C for vinyl. BTW I kept the A/C on all day with no issues either.
  21. One here..... https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/gatur.htm and here ... https://www.globaldogproductions.info/g/gatur.html
  22. Just going through some of the old storage boxes yesterday and found 2 copies of this beauty.....just have a listen. Probably the best Arctic double sider and probably one of the best Northern double siders. These were done as official reissues by the Jamie Guyden set up many years ago. The originals fetch crazy money in todays market - last one I saw was 500 some years ago and the going rate today ?? So here's a chance to own one for £25 UK Pounds £1.50 First post, £2.50 Recorded, Special would be £9 approx. and world wide standard air £5. PM's please Andy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEomKN8BUno https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGURt8D_U1E
  23. Should be an easy one to get. I bought one off the guy on Ebay selling them around 10 years ago for $8 and he actually sent me 5 copies !!
  24. Just because people don't respond it doesn't mean its not known. Its had spins over the years in many different places as others have said. There are lots of this type of record, but the point in my previous post was that the 45 I was referring to was well known and even booted due to its popularity in the late 70's. When a disc such as this is described as a "semi known" I think the BS has gone a bit to far. Like I say give your opinion if you think its good "lovely crossover", "nice early northern" etc etc no problem.
