Bit of a long shot……. preparing for a business trip in a few weeks and pulled the old Rimowa Aluminium suitcase out and the lock is broken. It’s 20 years old so no chance of fixing it. looking for a used carry on case, doesn’t have to be Rimowa, but Aluminium is required. If anyone has a used one for sale please let me know. thanks Andy

This week someone on another forum asked for a value on a record. Someone suggested 250 and he concurred. I pointed out that it had gone through eBay several times recently between 39 and 149 dollars. He tried to justify his valuation based on it was mint, had a picture cover etc.. So did many of the other copies. one of the issues is that the cheque book Charlie’s have paid big for over hyped record just because DJ x, y or z has played it. Now they are stuck with it and trying to hype it still to get their cash back. Ebay sellers in the US have jumped on the bandwagon over pricing records just because it’s Soul. Even some of the prices quoted on this forum beggar belief and one seller in particular always tries it on and then ends up reducing his price by up to 50%. Lastly EBay collect the money for the UK HMRC and they put around 28% on transactions. The VAT is 20% and they pay a third party to collect tax payments and do all the necessary paperwork and transfer, they take the 8%.

It depends what 45 it is. If it’s pretty rare it could be something fishy. If it’s a relatively common 45 if could be coincidence. However, I assume it’s the former. Maybe a dodgy postie who has a bit of knowledge or one of his mates ? Had some strange things happen with deliveries over the years. Last one was about a year ago when I ordered a record from someone 5 miles away and it took 7 weeks to arrive. I knew the seller and spoke to him and he assured me it was well packed and clearly labelled. Arrived with no internal packaging, and it was quite clear it had been opened and the outer box had been torn open and badly repaired. I felt sure someone had “intercepted” it and used it for a while.

At the last nighter I went to around 5 years ago, the promoter insisted all DJ’s pitch up all records. I’m not against pitching up or down if it improves the record, but a blanket instruction to pitch up any record is ridiculous.

You only may have a chance if it has some tracking on the package. If not its pretty much gone for ever. If its tracked, then ask the seller to contact the post office and they will ask for the tracking reference number, or if the seller provides it you can track yourself via the Royal Mail Track and Trace section of their website. Warning though, once Royal Mail have handed the parcel to the Italian post, its up to the Italians to provide tracking from there.

Todays offering... A truly superb crossover tune where you cant really pick a winner between the sides....both outstanding. However, this is the seldom seen White Promo copy, where one dealer said this is one of the hardest promo copies to get and listed it at £200. The issue itself has risen in price to the 75-100 mark as seen on recent lists. So the vinyl is nice and shiny with a few small surface marks, the labels show some fade but don't have any writing, rips or serious stains, a very slight storage dish which does not affect the play. Overall I'm going to grade at VG+ (based on M, Ex, VG) but it plays at a higher grade. I'm not sure where "class" comes into it. The article makes clear there was an error by the Magistrates Court (a lower court) before it reached the Crown Court (the higher court). The Magistrates Courts are limited to what cases they can preside over and what sentences they can impose. If the case is of such seriousness whereby it may mean a long prison sentence is required, it would be referred up to the higher court. Clearly they made some mistake in this process.

As I posted on here a couple of months back. There is a difference between rarity and availability, and demand drives the price. Many records are not rare (even the ones described as rare) as they sit in collections i.e. not available The Sherrell Bros on Currison is a classic example. Around years ago as a 'front page focus' for many dealers and talking to one who had it on his front page he said he had loads of them (from JA at Soul Bowl I think). Now people asking 1000 + for it ? I think not.

A lot to do with changing tastes along with the import tax issue. Bidding big means more VAT. Ebay actually add 28% when I checked recent purchases. When I queried it with them, they told me they pay an external company to collect the tax via the shipping program and the extra 8% is their fee. When I said that it was a rip off their answer was to ask the seller to send the record outside of the shipping program by normal post. The tax is collected by Ebay for the UK Treasury. It doesn't go to the seller.

He's got form on pricing things high as a c/u. Remember the Violinairs was covered up and listed for about 450 when it was a 20 quid record which many people knew It was discussed on here so I'm sure if you search you will find the thread.

Hi For sale today is a semi known tune that would sit well in crossover or modern sets. The official A side ' You're a part of me', is a lovely midtempo tune, and this 45 turns up regularly as a double sided demo (all on Discogs are at the moment). However, the stock copy has the flip 'LADY OF STONE' which is very difficult to get hold of. Its really still a semi known track, if that, and there is mileage in this for the enterprising DJ (or collector) looking for something new. The 45 is in Ex condition, but it does have a very light scratch on it, which does not really affect the play. Because of this I'll downgrade to Ex- and also adjust the price accordingly. My last minty copy sold for much more than this.
