Anyone Collect 78's ?
Collecting old 78s was one of my first forays into serious record collecting. I specialized in blues, jazz, R&B, Rock & Roll, Doo Wop & local New Zealand stuff, traded with a lot of overseas collectors. I ended up with a pretty strong collection of about a thousand quality titles. I sold up around 10 years ago since I had started focussing on 45s more & LPs also. Let everything go on ebay in a massive listing frenzy & made some good money. I thought I was 78 free after that but about a year/18 months back found a box of about 30 that I had stashed at my parents place years ago (really good UK modern jazz from the late 40s/50s). Sold them off locally really cheap (some dude got bargains, I think I sold him all them for $20 or something ridiculous, there is just no local 78 market here anymore because everyone died....) & have been really 78 free since then. Funny thing is like the week after I sold that last little box off I got phoned about a 1000 piece early jazz collection for $1000. I went and looked at it, could have made my money back easily off maybe a dozen of the choice titles. But ultimately decided I didn't want to venture down that track again so I bought the paper goods & passed the record buy onto another local collector. So yeah, 78 free & loving it Oh yeah, just made some good cash on ebay off some african ethnic 78s from the 40s/50s got them from the deceased estate of a family friend for free, they lived in africa for a bit after WWII, interesting sounding stuff, pretty cool music actually.

Warped Record
it's so hit or miss really, i used the oven & two sheets of glass method for years & had maybe a 60% success rate. sunshine sucks because you can't regulate the heat. oven is more accurate but can vary even from record to record & thickness of vinyl etc. you'll never get the warp out completely in my experience, even when you "pack" the record between the glass to counter for the raised label. also if the warp plays through but is just annoying you asthetically then just leave it alone. putting it under weight without heat might work but will take ages & works even less with 45s than LPs. once i had heated the warped record i would leave it under weight to cool for a few days to help the set the warp reversal but ultimately the best solution is to just not buy warped records

Salem Records - Any Recommendations
I do like the Bobby Rush 45 I have on this label, pretty sure I have other good ones filed away but am blanking on what they are right now.

Who Played Bass On Tears Of A Clown....?
sounds like a calliope (essentially a bunch of different pitched whistles controlled by a keyboard) but i don't know if it's a real one or something simulating it. edit, just youtubed calliope, probably a small one such as this

Massively Underwhelming 45 Chud Dump $5 Each
This is a mixture of my doubles/oldies playout boxes and some stuff that gives me condition anger (I have low tolerance) Grading is NM/VG++/VG+/VG/VG- etc. I'm fussy about condition, so my VG+ records are probably fine for people who are less picky than myself). Most of the VG++ to NM stuff is from unplayed stock I've picked up over the years, so that stuff should all be super clean. A few interesting NZ presses scattered amongst it. $5 each is ballpark, will cut deals if you buy a few. I kind of just want this shit out of here. International postage is from NZ & is $8 then $1 per additional. Next step for these is probably the rubbish bin next week, seriously. Everything should play through & be reasonably listenable, but I haven't listened to some of these in a while and most of these grades are visual. Just ask if you want me to double check something or need more info. Prices are US Dollars. oh yeah, that record sucks dude, but in fairness i do think you are the one who initially alerted me to it.- Funky Soul
let me fix this bit for you...- Holy Spirit - Spiritual Soul and Gospel Funk From Shreveport's Jewel Label
Yes, Wash Hopson Singers on the Songbird 45s, also The Hobson Family on the Select-O-Hit 45s/HSE LP & then finally The Hopson Family on the Jewel 45s/LP.- Funky Soul
I've loved that Willie Smith 45 on Genuine ever since I first heard it years ago. But in all fairness, I'm also a funk collector & would not play it at a Soul or Northern Soul night. At a funk night, absolutely.- Boulevard Studios, Chicago - Any Information?
calling the number was a joke, it's way old.- Boulevard Studios, Chicago - Any Information?
Ronald Stack or Stark Vocals on Mr Jolly Man sounds like the singer was a Roy Milton fan at least....- Boulevard Studios, Chicago - Any Information?
cool tracks/find, voice does sound familiar, but maybe it's just the style, could be a singing sax player in the Louis Jordan vein. Does the name on the label throw up any leads, I can imagine someone cutting an acetate & then naming it with contact details. Did you try calling the number.... - Funky Soul
