  1. Issue, there is info on the bootleg copies in the "Sharp End Of Vinyl" sub-forum above too in case you haven't seen it. One of my fave 45s.
  2. Around 60-70 pounds.
  3. As for the Darondo EP. It is 12" vinyl only. Definitely worth it for the 4 unreleased tracks.
  4. If you like Dorando you might want to grab some of the early Al Green stuff. If you like Doris Duke check out Sharon Jones If you like Baby Huey get some mid era Curtis Mayfield If you like David Ruffin get more Temptations stuff If you like Ann Sexton check out Ann Peebles, Candi Staton Eli Paperboy Reed....... um........... For Marlena Shaw you could try Etta James etc etc Some others worth copping at the moment: Lee Moses Marie Queenie Lyons Syl Johnson on Twinight Check out some of the reissues in the Eccentric Soul series by the Numero Group label. As for slow stuff, you can't miss with people like James Carr & William Bell.. There is a newish Kent CD that covers the Deep Soul genre reasonably well. Newer artists like Alice Russell & the Daptone Records roster are doing great things too. Of course you probably have the greats on lock: Otis, Sam, Marvin, Solomon, Aretha, Gladys Knight etc (although I can't imagine calling Mavis Staples not bad as she is definitely one of the greatest female soul singers of all time & easily on a par with Aretha, Etta & Gladys) If you want a great soul-tinged blues album my favorite is Magic Sam's "West Side Soul" on Delmark (the tape has not left my car for years & I also have it on CD & LP....) so coming at it from the blues (as I did) he is a great link. Hope this helps.
  5. My girlfriend was sold one of those TKO's 45s quoted as being original by someone at the recent National Australian Soul Weekender (not cheap either) & was very bitter when she got home & I had to break it to her that it was a recent release. It should have been a quarter of the price she paid.
  6. Seems like a totally unneccessary negative feedback. I wish buyers would be more forgiving about postal delays over the xmas period. Another case where ebay's new feedback system is a pain & a case where as a seller I am getting really frustrated with the whole ebay hassle.
  7. I agree, the zodiac one with the fortune teller on it is very cool. Those NZ Motown sleeves came in a variety of colors, the most popular seems to have been blue, which doesn't match the pink labels at all
  8. I like that. I'll have to check out some more of thier stuff. I have a 45 of them on Goldmine that I don't think I've ever listened to...
  9. This was a reasonably common practice for Australian Record Bars back in the day & may account for the scarcity of many original Australian sleeves. My favorite is the sturdy cardboard sleeve used by the Batman Record Bar!
  10. As someone who is not into the modern based sounds at all. Have you ever thought of pairing some of your stuff with anyone like some of the "throwback" style "retro-soul" artists around now. Commercially now would seem like a good time for something like that with the popularity of Winehouse, Jones, Willis, Russell et al. I saw the "Strange World Of Northern Soul" movie & thought how great it would have been to hear some more retro/earthy sounding productions to go along with some of the artist's performances. Not a dig at you, I'm just curious. Maybe you have done something like this & I've missed it?
  11. Here's my first 15. Not packed for a gig but from when I packed a box to take to a friends place the other week to play some records. So it's a bit of a mixture/mess really & will definitely get repacked for the next gig. Roy Head - Treat Her Right (Viking) The Equals - Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys (President) The Foundations - Give Me Love (Uni) Dennis Coffey - Ride Sally Ride (Sussex) New Birth - I Wash My Hands Of The Whole Damn Deal (RCA) Roy Ayers - Cincinatti Growl (Polydor) Kai Winding - Comin' Home Baby (Verve) Johnny Colon - Mombo Suzie (Cotique) Ramsey Lewis - Wade In The Water (Cadet) Herbie Mann - Unchain My Heart (A&M) Shirley Scott - Soul Shoutin' (Prestige) Darrell Banks - Open The Door To Your Heart (Revilot) The Impressions - Long Long Winter (ABC) Dennis Coffey - Scorpio (Sussex) Syl Johnson - One Way Ticket To Nowhere (Twinight)
  12. Try me, I know a bit, what are you after?
  13. RIP. Yes I saw the post with the Sam "The Man" Taylor heading & thought "he was still alive". Then read it & thought "wow, when did he start using that nickname". In any case, sad news & definitely not the famed jazz/R&B/pop saxman.
  14. Good 45, they were trying for a hit on Miss Jones so bad that they recorded & released the 45 3 times!! You want either of the 2 versions with the better drum sound. One is definitely weaker.
  15. Yes, now you mention that I think I have seen that variation, I was going to mention it but thought I might have been thinking of the "Tag 1" label for the 2nd release of "Straight Love No Chaser"
  16. OK, so last year I found a few unplayed stocks of this 45 on the typical bright yellow label with a matt finish. But just before that Manship sold me this one with a pale yellow glossy label. Is this a common variation? I've not seen another like it.

My pink stock of this is on styrene with stamped matrix & has "1D" stamped after the matrix. Hard to make out but does the pink stock copy above have "1E" stamped after the matrix?
  18. Can I please get some clarification on this 45. I have this version which was sold to me as an original on ebay but was pretty suspicious looking once it arrived. It is pretty flimsy vinyl with a lightly scratched S4KM-6838 matrix. The label looks ok, but it's really the flex in the vinyl that doesn't quite add up with some other vintage 45s. Any ideas? This one probably falls into the "why would you bother booting it?" category too though?
  19. I can attest that this 45 gets really difficult when trying to analyse the pink label variations. I have 3 copies on pink & they are all different from each other & none of mine are the "stamped matrix on one side" version pictured above so there are at least 4 variants on the pink label.
  20. Yeah, for 4000 you'd probably need one free wall to put them on. Getting them out of boxes was the best thing I ever did. 40000-60000 is insane, you'd have to have a free warehouse. I'm pretty sceptical about "non-Moerer/Shively" types who quote those sorts of numbers though since collectors have a definite propensity to over-exaggerate. You gotta take what some of these dudes say at face value if you haven't seen them. I mean, I'm pretty strict at on-selling stuff I don't want anymore, those 40-60k collectors must be hoarding chronically
  21. Not any more than $10 to $20 US for EX copies, based upon what I paid last year. I think they are pretty quiet presses from memory too, at least one of them anyways. Good LPs though.
  22. Just a heads up really, but 4000 45s will take up a lot of wall space. So you may want to shelve them high unless you have the better part of a whole wall or two to dedicate to 45s. I know I was very surprised how much room they all took up when I got mine out of their boxes 18 months ago. To give you some idea, I had to get custom shelves made by a friend who is much more of a handyman than myself. My shelves are over 2m high & I had to get them attached to the wall to stop them falling over too. Here is what I mean: The shelf on the right has the best part of 4000, the one on left around 2500 45s.
  23. just did a ebay search, you can get a Mint DJ copy for $1 here ebay
