Bonjour all, Whilst having a rummage at home the other day I found a copy of a tape I recorded from one of the Yarmouth early 90's weekender's radio shows and on it Butch was spinning a track by above. I've always quite liked it but after finding the tape again some years down the line I would'nt mind knowing if said record actually exists or if it's one of those sticky label scenarios. Anyone any idea? Cheers Jim.

Just recently have been giving Jerry's (rather wordily titled) 1971 album 'Jerry Butler sings assorted sounds with the aid of assorted friends and relatives' a bit of a seeing to at home, class from start to finish. Anyway it's got a bit of a Sgt Pepper feel to it, ie theres loads of significant folk on the cover. I think I've found Terry Callier and Billy Butler and possibly Gerald Simms. Anyone any idea who the others are? Yes, I should get out more. Regards Jim.

'Youre mighty right' on Jaypee (and another label I can't remember). Seem to remember hearing or reading that it was an old Richard sound from Station road and early Stafford. Being only a youthful 35 summers I can't comment, but I seem to remember picking it up at the first 'Northern' weekender at Yarmouth in '90. My question is, why isn't it played!? Have to concur with Chalky on this one, used to spend all my YTS money (don't laugh) on tunes from Dicky in the 80's and he certainly had an interesting sales pitch! My good mate a lad by the name of Lee Bates and I often have a chuckle about nervously ringing up to buy old pieces of plastic from a Brummie as two spotty 15 year olds. 'Just a little bit closer' c/w 'Hey Lordy'. Recently picked this up in the States after too many years of listening to a worn out tape. Does anyone know if it's had any exposure? I seem to remember a rather outspoken gentleman on a radio show suggesting 'it's incredibly rare' shortly before his departure to Gotham City. Not too sure about that statement but it's taken some time to get my paws on it. Not sure if it would set a dance floor alight but would be nice to nod along to at the bar Regards Jim.

Superlatives are always in short supply for MB, utter class. I'm still recovering from hearing 'Torture' for the first time 20 years (?) ago, as a spotty 14 year old. Rarely a week goes by without one of Maxines' toons being spun at Elliott towers. That night at the big 100 in 97 was just a wonderful experience. How lucky we are to have music such as this. Arethas versh has been getting a right hammering recently (particularly at Norfolk weekenders). Now I know I'm going to get a bit of stick about this but personally I just think, she (Aretha) is 'ok' as a singer . I've started playing the Baby Washington versh (Cotillion) at Elliott towers and to my inexperienced ears it's the better of the two. Now to the original point, How many versions of this are there? I think I've got about three, Supremes & Four Tops is a goodie and I seem to remember theres a version by George Benson on the same album as the sublime 'My womans good to me'. Any others?
