  1. If these are oldies, im well out of it. Theres only that 'marrying' number I recognise from the title, maybe a few more if I could hear them. Im gonna shoot my 'best shot'------------------ Is this the same Lee Mitchell on Full Speed Ahead as in the list on Roll? Lets be realistic, there are 000s of underplayed / neverplayed average to good tunes that could get an airing and it nice to see one or two getting a spin. The danger is the floor will empty and you will go back to the top 100, so mix and match, and just remember you will never have a record that you have the only copy. There are too many serious collectors on the scene for that to be the case. Ed

Its normal to see various flyers on the tables, I assume placed by different punters, and its a good idea, but to nick ones already there!!!!!!!!!!! 'Thats enough' and 'somethings wrong' Not new though, and just goes to show how low low low some promoters will go for your fiver. You can 'forgive and forget' as Ron Holden sang, or 'Im gonna get even with you' as per little ben and the cheers. Theres always an answer in the music. 'Do what you gotta do' Ed
  3. Looks like the link has been removed. Ed

I know what you mean Mand. as Freddie Chavez sang (about his love of Northern Soul - Yes really.............) 'They'll never know why I love you, but the sad part about it is ......... neither will I.' You cant define everything with 'gentle words' and as one of those 'minority' types described previously, IMO, if you cant feel it, you dont get it. As an example, Linda Jones, Just cant live my life: You cant just listen to that song, or sing along, or dance to it, it has to be all three, or you are missing out big time. Keep the faith. Ed

I think thats why I prefer Northern Soul (although there is no factual or theoretical definition), thats not all that as described above. Ton of Dynamite, Cause your mine, We got togetherness, The champion, and Manifesto are soulfull enough for me. Keep the faith. Ed
  6. Wait a god damm minute, Ive only just started getting into 'Wake up to the sunshine girl' and now I find its gone by its sell by date? You Northern Soulies move too fast. If the top 100 (of the last 5 years) have been replaced can someone (on a new thread maybe) list what they are And dont start about the Carstairs, right place right time, best soul record ever. Ed
  7. Dealing with mates is like working with family (especially extended), its just a matter of time before they screw up. Assuming your non violent, as an alternative to retribution, write down what happened bit by bit and send it to him with a note indicating that you will take him to a small claims court (unless record A was the Magnetics or the like) unless a solution is found PDQ. then he will know whats happens if he continues to ignore it. Also as previously mentioned, name names, so the couple of thousand soul-sources reading this forum avoid the same plight and put pressure on the bounder to save a reputation. Ed
  8. Quality Whats in a name? Wigans Chosen Few? Historical Mecca Munchers? Possible Pier Fishermen? Already exist 100 club commandoes? A good bet, stood the test of time. Ed
  9. The most famous of my time (75 TPD), was 7 Day lover that went for about £250 or 10 times my first wage. Obviously it went down to £1 soon after. On theother hand in the early 80s upon the first price crash, the prices were stupid low with collections pasing hands for peanuts. I wish I had the foresight to have bought them up. Nothing can compare to the last 5 years though in terms of price rises, just like house prices. I wonder when the crash will start. Ed

Not sure I follow the thread, who said what to who? Ed
  11. I second that emotion. Even the Four Vandals are outcasts on this scene. The Inticers are the best Ive heard as far as 'tribute bands go' but non of em will put bums on seats. Paul Weller/Style tribute might get you a few quid. Ed
  12. SAD END FOR THE MAN INDEED. WHY ARE THESE GUYS MORE FAMOUS WHEN THEY PASS AWAY? Ed
  13. I like to 'listen' to stuff like Sonny boy Williamson blues records, and also jazz funk, but Northern is more about a 'whole body' experience. I see plenty of folk like me who immerse themselves into the tunes on the dancefloor. Not sure if owt else gets the same reaction on a regular and long term basis. Ed
  14. It must be a roaring success because: Now its being turned into film and, June 27 and 28 are sold out............honest Ed
  15. Original Wigan sounds that could be used................................. No, Im not going to bite, but: Superlove, Footsee, My hearts symphony, Nine times out of Ten, Colourman, .....the choice of rare soul is endless. Come on lets not dress it up, WC were the right initials for one of the 'best discos in the world' Not sure if it was ever a Soul Club. Paul Weller anyday. Ed
  16. Not sure about soul venues, but the cheapest lager is in MacDonalds on the CHAMPS DE LEEERSAAY. Ed
  17. Wigan Casino. Why. Surely they could name another famous respected venue from the past in the Stoke area. Suggestions anybody. I agree with a few of the comments that as a commercial venture to put bums on seats at the Odeon (or le Odeourn in Cannes) the truth about the rare soul scene will have to be stretched and pop records will have to used and pop Djs will have to be included, and................ OMG thats why its using Wigan Casino to make it as authentic as possible. Ed
  18. Thanks for all the comments. The thread was to see if attidudes are changing, and in most cases they are. There can never be a replacement for rare vinyl being played, especially if its a record with only a handfull of copies ever found, but at the same time the vinyl cant last forever as a playable format. Also with so many collectors getting their mits on record label master tapes, its obvious that some great tunes are made into a cd first and carver second, so contradictions appear. Its not likely that undiscovered vinyl class Northern Soul records are going to turn up very often anymore, and to me thats why there are so many rock and roll and disco records (lets not kid ourselves) coming onto the scene that would have resulted 30 years ago in the DJ who played them getting 'ejected' from the decks. As with everything else in life, a compromise has to be adopted in terms of format, but not for quality. I would rather bend a bit on format than have a vinyl only format and listen to some of the recent dross that qualifies for a play coz its on vinyl. Now I'm off to Coventry as well. Ed PS - Anybody selling hard drives with 20000 Northern/Soul/motown/70s/x0ver LET ME KNOW (For personal use only).
  19. Carvers, EMI Discs, tapes, compilation cds, mp3s, reissues, pressings, re-recordings etc. Of course if a soul event announces any format/any soul music before the event, you know what you are getting, (Soul CDs in the sun etc) but has it really become acceptable to not play original vinyl (If thats the tunes first outing) at a Northern Soul event today? Old thread, but have attitudes changed? Ed
  20. Heartstoppers - Brainwashed by love - Allplatinum Loved it, sold it, never converted to mp3, maybe it will be on a modern cd one day. Ed
  21. TENERIFES GOT TALENT. GET THEM DOWN TO NEXT YEARS - SOUL(LETS NOT BE TOO PICKY) IN THE SUN. Ed
  22. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpRdSNJySJk...feature=related Thats where it all started then Ed
  23. Its like most of these artists from way back when, more about nostalgia and really just to say youve seen him live. Might be his last tour, who knows. Give the man break, play fingertips at a soul night, Nothings TGFMB in the car, and whistle Uptight at work. Actually I love his stuff like "I WISH, Superstition, and even Sir Duke' Looking for tickets now. Ed
  24. IM GOING TO TRY AND GO AND SEE IT AND JUDGE FOR MYSELF BEFORE IT ENDS. WELL AFTER ALL ENGLAND ARE NOT IN THE EURO CHAMPS SO ITS A GOOD EXCUSE........... Ed
  25. Whoops Got carried away............... Ed
