  1. Did Trevski (I dont know him or even read the thread this relates to) ask somebody to pass his thoughts on or did he say what he thought himself? I suspect the latter. Funny thing, I got talking to a guy from Worksop whist sat having a pint in a bar in Tenerife last Sunday and he told me he actually attended the very first Wigan Casino nighter and he mentioned 'Scooby Doo', and how little respect Scooby Doo had amongst the 'professionals' on the scene. Now some of you will wonder what I'm on about, but I can tell you that the above paragraph is relevant to this thread. In conclusion, if thas got owt to seh, say it thee sen, or shut the fcuk up. Ed

247 visitors so far. Only an idiot if it does not sell (ebay fees etc). I always admire the cheek of guys like this and pity the fool that buys it. Its always gone on though, just more scrutinised with modern media. Ed
  3. Spot on, I met Ruben at LA2004 and he was good enough to sign my copy with 'Keep the Faith'. Its a great book if you can get a copy and highlites the fact that an underground scene existed in the US at the same time as we had the rare soul scene in the UK, but dwelling on the slower side of soul, and in many cases the followers of this genre are chasing the same records as us but for the flip sides. Some great facts like the Montclairs were named after a fag brand and Lorraine Chandler sung on Eddie Parkers 'Love you baby'. Ed
  4. Its a bit cryptic mate, not sure what the point is. I can agree that there is so much to learn in the world of rare soul that its a lifetime thing. For example, reading through J Manships rare soul price guide, I can honestly say I only know 50% of the tracks at best. Maybe I would know more by listening to them, but the fact remains that after 31 years of interest in this music, I am not even halfway there to considering that I might get the 'chin stroker' status. I got a book all about 'low rider music' a few years back that describes the formation and output of mainly black soul groups in the early 60s. The information is massive concerning the movement of artists and renaming of groups etc. It would make a great 'trivial pursuits topic' but the point I am making is that the search for knowledge is endless, so join the club and get researching. Ed
  5. Late 70s Soul Bowl Soul Pack record, must be thousands out there. Ed
  6. I think your observations are right, its amazing what people buy on ebay and if the items are still viewable to all and sundry (who are ebay members) and able to check the history its bordering 'invasion of privacy'. It must be great for criminals, tax inspectors, and record dealers to check what activity bayers get up to, so they can rob the house, send a tax bill, or over-inflate record prices. Ed
  7. Who has the claim to fame as being the most senior active DJ still doing the rounds? 60+ ? 70+ ? Ed
  8. Its all in the wrist action........... Or index finger in this case. Ive got the flicker and believe me Im flicking. Ed
  9. Need to know basis eh? Nudge nudge wink wink, I get the picture. Sometimes I cannot understand why anybody would have made the records that we hold dear. For example 'Sidras theme' vocal/inst. I mean who the hell would buy that apart from us??? The list is endless. Ed
  10. I would If I was....................... Always trying to impose my musical taste on anyone I can. As Hamilton Bohannon once sang (I think it was also a Mecca play) SPREAD THE NEWS. Ed

  14. If its undeclared income I would steer clear of Her Majesty and her collectors for advice. Staples have books of sample business forms/contracts etc. You will have to make a standard form and adjust the details for each gig. If both parties sign, its legal and binding. Keep it Simple. Ed
  15. Not sure about the label thing but I can tell you that I think this guys voice is awesome. Bought a'best of' CD a few years ago, and have it playing in the car loads of times. Ed
  16. Northern Soul 2007 CD, obviously. If that does'nt get rid of your mates when you've had enough of them on New Years Eve Nowt will........................ Soul in the Sun ticket - April 08 Aweek in Florida whilst the $ is looowww. Ed

  18. It really hurts me girl Name it and claim it In the long run Ed
  19. Rare soul can also have the meaning of sounds you hear rarely, if that makes sense. There was a time when it was public knowledge IF a 'big' find took place in a warehouse in the US where all of a sudden 100 copies of a hard to find record had come to light, but I cant see that happening now or even in the last ten years. It has been known that a dealer found a hundred copies of a great sound, got DJs to break it in and then release 2 or 3 copies a month, so they could get the best price etc. A good example is the Ringleaders - Baby What, etc - Mpac. £30 a copy for months back in about 79, then bam its a £1 record when all those who could afford a weeks wages had bought one. The dark side is alive and well on the scene. Buy with caution. Ed

Its been known on ebay to see DVD MP3 formats for sale holding dozens of 'Northern Soul CDs' I think it has to bought for personal use and as replacements for what you already own......or something alonthem lines. About £10 for 1000 tracks. Ed
  21. Donnie Elbert was played, thats why its in. It does not matter if its any good, its just an overview of popular records over the last 40 years at Northern Soul events. He made a good version of 'The way you do the things you do' if I remember right. Ed

hertsandbeds, is that in Germany? You would never get yorksandlancs or worse yorksandnotts. Must interbreed down you way. Ed
  23. I think records have to be judged in a couple of ways to give them credit. For example records like 'What' and 'Moonlight' literally packed the dance floors solid when first introduced. On the other hand some of the top tunes in recent years, for example 'Stolen hours' and Ill be loving you' were overlooked as big time records. The flips got the glory. Over the years, punters tastes have changed and pop dancers are less in demand. Thankfully. So if the position in the book reflects a records position of popularity over 40 years, I would say most are about right. IMO. First choice and Judy Street bring back some great memories, so I would leave em in. Ed
  24. It is all about personal choice I suppose with about 25000 tracks to choose from. Dont mind Bob Brady or the Gypos. Mandrill is a great record from the Mecca, still got the LP. Fireman, however is pony in my opinion. I would imagine each year the listing order would change anyway with whats popular at the time. Ed
