Soul Shack Now..?
I really have no idea what the problems were, I tuned in just to check all was ok at just after 10pm on Sky and it sounded terrible, there has to be a real problem at the station for this to happen, I sent an email and a text to the station and requested that they pull the show if the problem could not be resolved, the gremlin seemed to have messed up tonights broadcast totally and all I can say is sorry, things happen sometimes which are totally out of my control, I'm sure things will be back to normal next weekend and again sorry for the problems. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Shafted By The Big Boys
Tony, no one's mate is the answer, I present for Starpoint Radio now and of course had almost seven years on Solar, I constantly invite everyone promoters etc. to provide me with venue information which I will read out, this service is free of charge and I apply it to people who can be bothered to supply the information, Starpoint is a commercial station and Chris Waterman the promoter of the CIS event took out paid advertising with the station leading up to the event last night again this service is there for everyone who promotes and cares to put their hand in their pockets and pay for it, you may remember I did give your event a mention when you kindly asked me to DJ a couple of years ago when I was still at Solar, I give all events I play a mention on my show and one's I don't DJ at, I try to give a detailed event what's on when I can but if I read out all the events that are currently on then I would end up playing about two records in a two hour show. So it's nothing to do with knob sucking here more to do with communication, like I say I will gladly read out any and all events if the information is supplied to me but I'm buggered if I'm gonna chase people or random select venues to promote on the show, simple really send me details and I will read it out don't and I won't or I can't if I don't have the details or information, don't assume as presenters we somehow only read out or supply information for selective gigs as this is simply not true, I promote, review, preview, records, CD's, Magazines, venues in a fair across the board manner for all companies, promotions and venues. Yes I promote gigs I'm DJ'ing at as it cuts both ways but I also invite anyone to supply the details for a mention or plug. Regards - Mark Bicknell - Starpoint Radio - Tha Soul Shack www.starpointradio.com

Whitby Etc.... Right To Reply
"Remember when you ran away and I got on my hands and kness and begged you not to leave because I'd go burserk! well you left me anyhow and now the days got worse and worse and now you see I've gone completley out of my mind...and their coming to take me away ha! ha! he! he! ho! ho! he! he! to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and their coming to take me away ha ha he he! I cooked your food and cleaned your house and this is all I get for all my kind unselfish loving deeds! well you just wait they'll find you yet and when they do do that stick in in the ASPCA you mangy mut!....and their coming to take me away ha! ha! he! he! to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and their coming to take me away"!!!!!!!! ha! ha! he! he!.........................nothing to do with the thread but lighten the load guy's let's all do our own thing and get on with it before it drives us all around the bend, the scene is full of moovers and shakers, mavericks, DJ's, Collectors, dealers, dancers etc...but all in all are we not blessed to have access to this music? how we enjoy it, collect it, play it, dance to it is basically each to his or her own, how you run with it is down to choice, where you go to listen to it is down to choice, influence and guidence is welcome but discovery and following your own line is for many the way forward. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

The Jets On Port
Stunning record which I've played on the radio show on and off over the last few years, possibly one of the harder Port 45's to locate and if JM has this for £50.00 I would snap his hand off for it, yet to have it's day as a huge record, been around years and did get a little turntable action way back but never a huge record...watch the interest build on this one now. Flip side ain't bad either. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Help! Millionaires - Value?
A hard record to locate (original that is) has to be £125/150.00. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Which one has been booted 1001 or 1004? would not of thought there was enough demand on this record to warrent a bootleg? or was it done in North America? Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Paul Smith
Paul Smith - I'll Run B/W Ain't That Something - Jacklyn 1001 - The rarer one seem to remember it's a white label with red text? two good sides and Paul Smith - Ain't That Something B/W Only Once In A Lifetime - Jacklyn 1004 the yellow design which is the one I have, not booted to my knowledge? just a case it came out twice with different flip sides 1001 around £300.00 and 1004 half that perhaps a little less, hope this helps Pete. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Playing Rare Originals @ Venues: Does It Make Sense?
Superb reply, things have changed that's for sure....respect sir. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Playing Rare Originals @ Venues: Does It Make Sense?
Lol no Ian I record my shows on...well the head cost more than the deck...lol no you would not perhaps get lynched for playing 80% rare vinyl to 20% of well-chosen but impossible to find killers on CD/Digital but what about the DJ's/Collectors who actually may own and have in their boxes and collections those 20% impossible to find killers, perhaps more to do with getting the DJ balance right in the first place who might be able to provide that magical 20%? rather than having to go down the CD/Digital route? Is this not the same as the Original versus Bootleg debate instead the Boot has been replaced with the CD/Digital format as the sound carrier? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
-
Playing Rare Originals @ Venues: Does It Make Sense?
Being that the scene is based on obscure, rare, hard to find records is not the whole ethos of Rare Soul DJ'ing in the true sense of the word simply based on playing authentic original records? I take your points about spoiling records by playing them on sub standard decks etc. but in this day and age there should be no excuse for second rate equipment to be used anyway, a decent set of 1210's with top of the range Stanton's does help. I still think vinyl is king for most of the scenes DJ's, although this might sound rather glib in my opinion records are for playing rare or not otherwise what's the point in collecting them in the first place? Of course it's important to preserve them but sorry I can't just look at them in boxes totally pointless. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

List Updated Includes Major Lance, Otis Smith And Many More
Dean, only joking about the price mate like I can remember what happened last week let alone how much I paid for a record 25 years ago...lol like I say mate enjoy it! Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Enjoy it Dean....lol not sure about the bargain price bit still only cost me seven quid when I bought it all those years ago...lol English football needs the 'special one' as coach....a very sad state of affairs indeed. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
