Andy, I`ll be in touch about the book...seems like i get a decent story everytime i get out there....this time it was somebody who used to work at the Columbia pressing plant and brought home handfulls of records....kept them for years until two friendly English guys turned up to take them off their hands.....funny thing is amoungst the find was 7 mint copies of Bobby Sheen "Something new to do"......not a bad find but when i play them its not Bobby Sheen at all but some other bloody record, female vocal, its not bad actually but not a clue what it is! Seems strange writing about this, it was only 2 weeks ago tomorrow!! The thing about record finding stories is that its all date specific. It was obviously much easier to find record years ago, an average find in the 70s would be a major find today.....I didn`t get to the states til the early 90s and it was never easy even then....... Chris

I`ve just got back from my 22nd trip Stateside,in fact i worked out i have spent a year out of my 36 years on the planet in the states looking for records. I could probably write a book of stories about whats happened to me, or what nearly happened! I`ve got more stories about amazing finds but also had some amazing experiences too.Heres just one that springs to mind I took some pepper spray in my pocket as we visited a guy in south side Chicago (just in case), after a while my leg started itching and the pepper spray had leaked....it was bloody killing me...i went to the guys bathroom and wiped it all off with his face flannel...sometimes i imagine the guy washing his face that night and being blinded by the mystery stuff in his eyes!! Without doubt John Anderson is the king of story telling...he has kept us entertained on many a boozy record show night with his amazing stories.....lovely guy too...... I did her somebody (Andy Dyson?) was writing a book about this..... Chris

Going Big.....what Will Be Next?
Chris Anderton replied to Chris Anderton's topic in Look At Your Box
Ernie Johnson will go up for sure...seems to be a lot of people asking about it already. I had a nice tune thru the door this morning that falls into this catagory Patti Drew "Stop and listen", I`ve been spinning this on and off for a couple of years and now it seems to be getting the recognition it deserves......just about £30......sorry this one is already sold! Thats already massive,....and about 2k! Chris. -
We have probably had threads like this before but i was thinking about the Pat and the Blenders record going for silly money....and everyone saying its crazy...so what do you think the next record to go through the roof is? A few rules; it cant be a mega-rarity, it must be known or semi-known and currently available for less than £30.........I`m thinking about the next Betty Swan, Ace Spectrum, David Ruffin kinda thing........ Chris
-
Todays prices are dictated by Johns book and the last ebay price.....if i phone Shifty and say "How much is so-and-so....its £300 in Johns book" He will say "Its 300 then innit"!! The problem is that everyone has the book, or access to it and if a guy buys a nice piece from the US, then he is negotiating with a guy who has the book....... Did we ever find out what this amazing piece is? I`ll list anything on my list at your price, if it sells i take 10%....but John has a much bigger catchment area.....and people just seem to be going mad on his auctions! Chris
-
Yeah, I knew that too.....just got a bit carried away.....and a but pissed while typing the list! Chris

My fave Gladys track has always been "What good am i without you" ...awesome LP track from feelin Bluesy....I saw her live in Vegas a couple of years ago, the show was a bit...ok a lot cheesy but to see her singing "neither one of us (wants to be the first to say goodbye)" was worth the admiossion price alone..... Chris

Rich, I used to cut all my own cardbord but its such a bloody pain, I`d say it was the worst part of record selling! Now i get it all pre-cut from the factory....god life is so much easier these days.....but reading your post took me back. I once went out with a girl who was a teacher....she used to get her kids to cut cardboard for me. The kids used to ask what it was for and she would say "Its something we are making at christmas". I couldn`t stop laughing when she told me that in January one bright spark said "We never did make that thing we cut all of that cardboard up for miss"! Chris

I may have asked about this before but does anyone know a 70s record by a group called Brotherhood on Treserect records called "When you needed me"? Its on a yellow label from Detroit.......i got my copy from the producer, Danny Dallas a few years ago. Its a nice up-tempo 70s dancer and has a great group harmony. I`ve ran it past a couple of collectors but nobody seem to know anything about it....... Chris
-

chris what year please your first record in German ,Billy .............. Billy, It must of been 2004 at the Shelter club in Hamburg. We got a cab to the club and saw some guy getting beaten up outside, we later found out he had been murdered and we had witnessed it all. My first record was Emanual Laskey "Peace loving man" on Thelma. I played for about 2 hours, oldies, 70s, R&B, crossover....just about anything...great night and a great weekend....Lars and Mirriam really looked after us! Chris
-
I agree with all...........mix it with "thinking mans" northern if anything...... Chris ps, I think I`m actually booked for the first one so maybe i will decide what the policy is!!
-
I was going to join up but its all in German! Any chance of an English translation?! I remember the first time I DJd out there and my girlfriend said "You must introduce your first record in German, it shows respect"!! As if DJing in another country isn`t difficult enough... To my shame i didn`t even try.....love it over there though, so many great events and great collectors too.... Good luck with the site guys....... Chris
-
Just a reminder to email me on chris.soul@btinternet.com for your orders...please dont pm me... Thanks, Chris

By "First" name I thought I was the only one that did that. ................ Ged, I file all of my sales like that as well! People always smile when they are looking thru and I say "in alphabetical order by artist FIRST name"! Hey it works for me...... I know its cool to file by label but i just cant remember that stuff after 5 pints! I know Shifty always filed his DJ box by label.......we had a discussion whilst in the states once about what we look for when looking thru records.....(I am twice as fast as he is....at least) and he looks for labels......I look at the artists names....strange innit.... Chris.

Dj Spots - Forecasts Against Actuals
Chris Anderton replied to Wiganer1's topic in All About the SOUL
I plan my first record about a half hour before my spot...it sometimes takes some thinking about...then I`m away....but i can change records 2, 3 or even 4 times between records......I think I`m getting that compulsive disorder thing....i keep checking and changing my mind.....on Saturday I had Skip Jackson on the decks at least 7 times and it never got played in the end! Chris -
Wow! Never seen a 7" of this before - must be damned hard on 45? ..... Never seen an LP....whats the rest of it like mate? Chris
