  1. That is a bit strange isn't it? So I thought I would listen to it on YouTube just to see what it was like - but the copy shown there is on 'Whirlin disc'.... do you think they thought better of it?
  2. Was that version of "Fly Robin, fly" by Masking Sound?
  3. I'm afraid that one doesn't look quite right to me - it also looks like it has had one of those coloured stickers you used to get on records of dubious origin that Selectadisc sold in the 70's. Obviously more than happy to be proved wrong....
  4. No idea Steve - I don't think it's a particularly helpful comment either, as that clearly wasn't what I meant (well it was clear to me) my intention was to highlight that being nit picky about dates usually isn't helpful. Have a nice easter!
  5. For my part, I don't think it's the date a song is recorded or released that makes it 'crossover' but you just know it when you hear it....

I have seen a couple alternate takes of the early Levine's stuff on a PYE - disc. I have certainly an alternate instrumental of "Reaching for the best" - a sax replaced the vocals if I remember correctly - but as it was 'out' and past its best when I saw it I didn't invest the 50p the seller wanted! It did have a different artist title too - can't remember what it was though," the Century something or other"?

My mum used to do a similar thing to me by singing along to tunes like "Put your arms around me" and "At last" when I thought I was listening to 'underground northern soul' - those old folk can be annoying can't they!
  8. No it must have been after me, there were no other names on it when I had it.
  9. I am! Always nice to know where your old tunes end up, I started putting details on the flip side after buying a copy of the Volcanos "False alarm" from Derek Banner where he had very neatly engraved his name etc on there - I stopped putting my address on by '77ish, so I would guess it must be from my first collection.
  10. I would have thought Dave was first - and to all those people who laughed when I paid £25, well you know!

What about Pat Thompson & Archie Powell - equally rare?

I seem to recall Poke playing it at the Clifton Hall all nighters, '83-84 ish? But I think it was one of those records that was widely played at the time.
  13. Nice, I wonder how many of those were sent over?
  14. Had a Doni Burdick "I have faith" (instr.) b/w Sidney Barnes orch "I hurt on the other side" (instr.) once upon a time. And I think there are still some Black Magic things in the conservatory, Jill Baby Love and a version of "Sugar dumpling" spring to mind...
  15. I missed that thought! If I were a betting man though... Anyone know if they are related?
  16. I don't know how rare it is but that arranger, is it Wayne Henderson from the Crusaders?
  17. Joe Arnolds version was a big Mecca/Wigan/Cleethorpes sound around '76, I would have thought, the Spiral Starecase more Torch?
  18. That looks like the first pressing that appeared via Selectadisc to me Dave.
  19. I have had both, they weren't expensive when I bought them (76/77?) so I assumed it was relatively easy to find.
  20. I presume that copy was somewhere on the same list that the Salvadors, George Blackwells etc Simon did? I must confess I was unaware of it.
  21. I don't recall a 70's boot - and it's odd that they don't mention the other side?

No, I didn't really think it would be, but anything with the line "F*ck you, and the Range Rover you rode in on!" deserved to be brought to a wider audience. And let's face it finding the actual tune on the info you have supplied is a bit of a long shot.... so it was meant to be a bit of fun really.

By following this link I ended up here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_9blTxwFeA Enjoy!
  24. Probably why they booted it on Nimbus 9.
  25. Thanks for that, thought the 'oldtimers' was bothering me again!
