  1. By the way, I haven't seen "I Know What To Do To Satisfy You" on TIna for a while - was surprised to see a 6 ton price tag on it the other day. Wish I still had it!
  2. Did it come out on UK Stateside too?
  3. According to my extensive database, you sold one of these last year Mr Weston..... ............and, yes, Mr Collins, I would have had this off you too . Got it on Camille, but I am told the Cab copies sound better - no idea if that's true.
  4. Blimey. Good question. I remember a large room full of record sales upstairs above the main hall, but I can't remember whether there was a second room.
  5. The acts and backing band that night were shockingly poor and lame, with the exception of Edwin Starr, being the trooper and consummate pro he always was. Lou Ragland was OK. I think the fault was probably mainly with the backing band who seemed to be playing a different set to the songs the singers were trying to sing much of the time . When it was all in danger of completely falling apart, Edwin Starr leapt on stage and injected some direction into the whole shambles. He succeeded to some degree, but it was not a good showcase. Curiosity value only I'm afraid, but still a tremendously memorable occasion for having all those legends on stage in front of us and for that reason alone, it was a great night.
  6. Please can you not remove sold items in accordance with the site guidelines - it helps build a valuable info base for checking record prices etc; pointless if they are then removed by sellers. Ta.
  7. Seller is Ben Summers - top man. https://seriouslysoulful.com/listings.php?style=Crossover%20and%2070s&letter=T
  8. Please leave the prices on in accordance with site rules. Moderators can advise. Ta.

  13. Flippin' 'eck! That was a bargain
  14. How much did the Vernon Greene go for?
  15. There is the story about his work with the Ramones when apparently he got them to record a single guitar chord over and over many many times. Joey Ramone stopped the session, took him to one side and informed him "we don't work like this Phil"..............
  16. See the headline in Rare Soul Daily News today?.......... RECORD BECOMES IN-DEMAND, GOES UP IN PRICE - SHOCKER!! - Rare soul regulator investigates another case of record costing more than it used to!: Director General of the official regulator OFFSOUL, Mr Bernard Argainseeker said "This sort of thing really has to stop. Some records are now fetching prices over ten times, or in some cases even more, than what they were 30 years ago. It is simply unacceptable that people should be allowed to charge more than other people want to pay. We wish to see a market where people only pay what they think they should pay (or what they paid in the good old days) and sellers have to accept the lowest offer rather than the highest." Mr Argainseeker added "Market forces have no place in a rare soul record-owning democracy; everyone should be able to buy records for what they went for last time they bothered looking, before they woke up and smelt the coffee. Sellers seeking to charge a market rate or to maximise the amount they ask for their record should be referred to the European Commission under EU Anti-Competition regulations." Nobody from the Wise Council of Old Record Collectors was available for interview but a statement was released confirming that they agreed that fings ain't wot they useta be and all these other people buying records and putting up prices was a bad thing. Blah blah blah..........
  17. Pete Myles......haven't seen him in over 20 years.

Absolutely. "I Wanna Woman" has an Ascots feel to it as well. Two very fine examples of Big City male group vocal harmony.

    Not for thirty quid!!
  20. Blimey. Were you there too Edwin? Ian Levine's "World's First Gay Northern Soul All Dayer"!!? Was that Easter Sunday, probably 84? Mark Bicknell put on an all dayer at the Wooburn Grange Country Club near High Wycombe (a bit odd in itself as this was the building used for all the outdoor shots of the Fawlty Towers hotel). Couple of car loads of us piled up to Charing Cross to Heaven after the dayer. Blokes in dresses serving behind the bar, blokes in full leather bondage gear etc etc. JImmy Ruffin did a view numbers live (karaoke style..)..........strange world of Northern Soul? Indeed.
