  5. This is a lost and found story. Back in the late 70's had a mate who had a flat in Balham ) lovely part of town ) anyway went up for the weekend of the Notting Hill Carnival and had a great weekend buying Reggae and Soul 45's and not paying more than 25p for 'em. Loads of guys just had stalls by the side of the road and all the shops were having massive clear out sales. Anyway, on the Monday night got back to Cheltenham station, put the box down while we waited for the next taxi and..... yes you guessed it, got in the cab and heade off towards Bishops Cleeve. Got to Cheltenham race course ( about 4 miles ) before I realised what I had done, turned the cab around, went back and.... they were still exactly where I left them. Reason I got so excited was among the couple of 100 reggae and Motown things I had found some nice Uk stuff and a red issue of Dena Barnes!!!!!!! Happy days.
  6. One popped up on ebay a couple of hours ago, starting at 25 quid!!!
  7. Andy Barber, used to live in Cheltenham
  8. Richard Pack is a very reliable collector/dealer and I believe he used to be involved in the magazine that Martin Koppell used to run from Canada - s**t I cant remeber what it was called now!!
  9. Mega rarity for Dave Thorley I thought?
  10. Mikey I think you mean Darren Madigan??? He was from Stroud, danced with his shirt off and did great spins. last time I saw him was in a pub in Stroud and he was knocking about with a load of grebo's!!!
  11. With respect to the subs for the mag, nobody is having a go at Dave ( or at least I am not ), I was more disappointed the mag stopped. The reviews were great, he gave away free 45's every issue and some of his reviews were brilliantly funny. Having said that, if somebody takes my money for something and doesnt deliver I reserve the right to mention it.
  12. No, I think he means Soul Galore? Basically an A5 magazine of 45's with current pricing, bootleg info, 45's for sale etc. I paid for a subscription for this as well.
  13. I got mine from Adey Pierce, he may still have some copies.
  14. I had a copy of Open The Door To Your Heart by some Canadian bird whose name I cant remember on Canadian Capitol. I thought it sounded a bit country and sold it on and a couple of years later I see it on a dealers list!!!! Any one remember her name?
  15. Willie and the Mighty Magnificents - Souling. Dave Thorleys old Frankie Crocker cover-up I used to have this a long time ago on All Platinum but last weekend I picked it up on Stang? Is this a re-issue, boot? - any one have an idea of price? Thanks
  16. Writing this at work. Picked up some nice 70's bits and pieces at the weekend and among them was a 45 by Fire and Fury on Ram but I cant remember the title. It is a very nice 70's mover. Anybody heard/know it?
  17. I contacted Daptone about this 45 as I was going to see Sharon Jones in Hamilton, Ontario a couple of weeks back and always thought this 45 was only available at the gigs. They told me it was now available on the website but didnt mention it as a re-issue and when you consider how many shows these guys do they must be re-pressing this constantly?
  18. Sharon Jones - What Condition is now available on the Daptone web site, bought one last week.
  19. 49c from The Re-Use Centre here in Burlington, Ontario about 2 years ago. I only bought cause it had Take My Heart on it, had no idea about the Losing Control track. In fact the whole album is pretty good.
  20. Here in Burlington, Ontario we have a huge warehouse called the re-use center. It is basically council run to try and stop people dumping in the municipal tip. Every Wednesday there is a queue to get in as Monday and Tuesday are the days they put out the new stock. I have found tons of Soul, Funk, Jazz and Reggae in the 5 years I have been here including 45's by Tammy Wayne, Doug Banks - 2 copies, Tommy Yates, plus 100's of Motown, Northern 45's at 25c each. They actually have a local record dealer who prices rare stuff before they put it out but that just means charging me $3 for mint copies of albums by The Monitors, Marvin, Bobby Stewart, Carla Thomas, Clarence Carter, Sam and Dave, the list goes on. Albums are normally 49c. They also have free boxes at the entrance and in the last couple of months I have got Manu Dibango, Crusaders, Ahmad Jamal, Joe Farrell - Tamla and Billy Eckstine - Tamla albums in really good shape for nothing!!!!!!.
  21. Went to the big record show in Toronto yesterday. I have picked up some incredible 45's over the last 5 years and one dealer in particular always had a nice bag of 45's for me to go through, he has sold me literally 100's of great and rare northern and I have never paid over $5C for any of them. Anyway, he handed over a bag and there was some nice bits and pieces and I handed them over and he said " oh, most of these are listed in Martin Koppells price guide" and proceeded to quote ridiculous prices. I just said "good luck selling them for that" and so closes another chapter in my Northern record hunting. I did manage to pick up Marv Johnson - Come On And Stop - Canadian and Eddie Holland - Im On The Outside Looking In - Canadian Tamla for $1 each!! As an aside, Martin Koppell had a stall at the show and I think just about every one of the 70 dealers there had copies of his guide by the end of the show!!!!!!!!
  22. Johnny Intrigued as to where you live as the away end is on Whaddon Road!?!? We use to have a saying as kids - "red sky at night Whaddon's alight"
  23. Does anybody have an email for the guy who runs Soul Rennaisance - I think it was Martin Bradley? Or anybody have any back issues they want to get ris of?
  24. I received a Tamiko Jones - Spellbound - cracked in half but without any visible signs of damage, folds etc to the package. I am still convinced the robbing get sent me a cracked record!!!!!!! I have also received cracked copies of Bobby Sheen issue and The Prophets - Stephanye promo in the past - not bad I suppose for 30 years of buying records through the mail.
  25. The only one I buy now is Shades OF Soul although I did also enjoy Soul Rennaisance. I have the first 3 but have since moved to Canada - what number are they on now.
