  1. Mick Smith is the seller. Thought he had more integrity
  2. Actually, I think this is a good question. Why are there records pretty expensive even though they're mediocre and never played anywhere? Supply and demand determine price of a record. But what if there's no demand? The Curtis Davis record is a good example. As good as it is (I like it) it's not a record with a huge demand for it, is it?
  3. It's an auction for 19 records not just for one.
  4. No, you're right. 1.000's of people see Manship's auctions. Many tend to take whatever he says for facts when infact sometimes they're just assumptions.
  5. Another big surprise this one. This usually sells for less than 50 (?) I think I wanted only 30 quid for the definitely rarer german MCA release. Or did demand increase?
  6. He said Diva Detroit. I take he tried to describe some sort of 'sophisticated Detroit girl group' sound and didn't imply that the group was from Detroit. Does that make sense?

  11. Nice one Chris! This one pops up quite often here in Germany. I almost had a heart attack the first time I saw it! Nowadays whenever I see it it just raises my pulse for a second

Which Mr. Lucky? "I was born to love you" on Star-whatever? Thought it was west coast, George Kerr was east coast.

Anyone remember what Derek Pearson wrote about it in Shades? Something like this song makes grown up man to stand up, sing a long loud and proud and not feeling ashamed about that. I agree.

You clearly didn't get the meaning of my post. So be it. Feel free to dissect each and every song posted in this thread. I won't. Not needed. I want folks to post their favourite beat ballads. If they don't fit in my criteria of a beat ballad, so what. If you want to discuss what a beat ballad is and if say odds and ends is one or not, open up a new thread. thank you.

Some tunes mentioned so far I wouldn't class as beat ballads. But I won't say which ones as I don't want to see this thread to go downhill in a "what defines a beat ballad" discussion. I really love beat ballads (or rock-a-ballads as some record reviewers called them in the 60s) and enjoyed this thread immensely so far. Quite a few tunes/recommendations I didn't know. Played youtube vids of a few and they all went straight on my wants list.

Just played a few records and YT vids and read all previous posts. My nominee for the best ever dramatic beat ballads is: anyone disagree?

I know that Brad Lundy and Deena Johnson are the same songs but didn't know that Chuck Jackson did it as well. What is it like?

well, I did, see post #29. Though I have to say that I'm not too keen on "Never loved her anyway". BTW, I have it on a UK London demo.

another great beat ballad: the album-only take by little anthony is way better but couldn't find it on youtube.

  21. What do you reckon, how many 60s soul record were released over there? Just wondering...
  22. You might be right. I know it went for over $2.000 a few years ago. But don't know what it's going for nowadays
  23. Sorry, what's your point? Is it that seller advertises simultaneous on SS and Ebay? Or is it that seller's SS is about 300/400 quid above the current rate?* WTF is HTMHF? * assuming that the Sweets are still four figure?
  24. EP was released in 2012. so boot/reissue whatever one calls it.
