  1. The first german CP releases were very early 60s when Chubby Checker, Chiffons, etc. had their first hits. When was the first UK CP release? Who distributed Cameo-Parkway in the UK? In Germany all CP releases were licensed, manufactured and distributed by Ariola.
  2. never heard of a fake too but "crazy things" sure was one of the biggest sounds late 90s/early 2ks, not just UK but all over Europe...
  3. Almost correct, Barry. That's not the only reason but the main reason IMO You're right, you could play any record either way. but the problem is the needle, back in the days needles were designed to be used in one way only. The were sort of blunt on one side so when you back-cue'd a record too fast a nasty noise was likely to develop. I understand that nowadays needles are not blunt on any side so shouldn't due any harm to your records. If unsure get a "DJ" needle or something similar from Ortofon or any other quality supplier. I cue in every record as I want end of previous and start of next record to flow smoothly. Remember that outside the british Northern Scene DJ's hardly drivel between their discs So next time anyone of you is dj'ing, balance the tone arm (about 2.5 on the scale when using a Technics 1210), get your own needles to make sure they're ok and if you cue in your record do it slooooowwwwly..
  4. I'm not very familiar with the UK CP design but basically yes, similar. I don't have my copy of Discotheque here right now but attached scan of another german Chubby Checker release, label design is the same as on Discotheque

Marc, I know what and I know who you mean and I agree with you Bit confusing in Germany when it comes to OVO, some well known excellent DJ's do play originals only some don't, some say they do but don't have a clue on how to differ between original and pressing (e.g. "Soul Rabbi"). Personally I can't really be bothered about what a DJ plays. I'd rather hear a good song off a bootleg than a shite song off an original ... (Edited the DJ's bit as felt it wasn't really meaning what I wanted to say)
  6. these intro lines always do it for me, unsurpassable: Now if there's a smile on my face it's only there trying to fool the public but when it comes down to fooling you now honey that's quite a diff'rent subject. AND The moment I wake up Before I put on my makeup I say a little prayer for you And if I had a penny for each time I told my mates how much I like the lyrics to Jo Ann Courcy's "I got the power" I could afford an original by now...
  7. I've been seen dj'ing with boots every there and then. But usually trainers only for me
  8. Attached german sleeve for At the Discotheque. Nicked the scan from the auction I won for the pricely sum of 3.50 Euros

Marc, yes and no. Yes, many titles were issued on Astra due to demand in the Pittsburgh area (label was owned by a local DJ as far as I remember). No, Astra wasn't a legit re-release label, many (if not all) releases were bootlegs. I once read a small article about Astra, probably on soulfuldetroit.com
  10. 150. Always wondered why people delete the price once a record has gone. Sure it's enough to simply state "SOLD" next to it??
  11. Ady, could you explain what you're about for all the non-native speakers? Maybe by PM if it's too embarrassing or offensive
  12. Finally managed to get a copy myself. Two nice sides tho I prefer the garage side ("The Wilderness"). Does anyboy know if any of both sides were released anywhere else? TIA Benji
  13. Unlike Morgenmantels brilliant piss take this bit was very true. What was his name again? Gehde Koester (probably wrong spelling)?
  14. Sean, already been answered by the scan posted but if you look closely at my pic you can see the record had a middle which was pushed out. I don't own said disc just have a scan of it. A mate of mine has a greek Frankie Beverly or Dee Dee Sharp. Have seen it only once many years ago I'm not sure which one.
  15. very low quality pic I know but the best that I got: Frankie Beverly - If that's what you wanted: Then there was an issue of Dee Dee Sharp - What kind of lady. Either Frankie Beverly or Dee Dee Sharp were slightly different cuts I recall, probably Dee Dee Sharp. Anyone confirm?
  16. For sale: R. Dean Taylor - Ghost in my house - V.I.P. (Multicoloured west coast demo copy) 75 GBP o.n.o. Nice collector's rarity, genuine west coast multi-coloured DJ copy, same song both sides. VG++ condition, plays really fine. Probably the rarest format for this classic. Paypal or cash, post within Europe 3 GBP regular, 5 GBP registered and 7 GBP insured. Bit more outside of Europe, less within Germany. Please PM me if interested! Scans available on request. TIA Benji
  17. Does somebody know the current value for: Finess - Have it Your Way / I Don't Want to Be Left on the Outside - Brown Bomber 101 TIA Benji

As far as I remember there was a sticker on the wrapping mentioning the 45 freebie.
  19. How about Kimberly Briggs/Kim Tolliver?
  20. I'm after Reparata & The Delrons - Panic - German Bell 45 Must be at least VG condition. Not sure of price but am willing to pay a fair amount, even more if it comes with a picture sleeve. Alternatively nice german soul 45s for trades waiting! TIA Benji
  21. I'm after: John Westley - You are the one - Corsair Must be at least VG condition. Am willing to pay 200-ish for a copy. Anyone?? TIA Benji
  22. Marc, John Westley and Johnny Moffett are one and the same. Wesley was Johnny Moffetts middle name. As with most of TBs valuations I seriously doubt the 300 quid price tag. A record is only worth what someone pays for it, not what someone wants for it. Can't find it now but there was a copy on Ebay either end of last or beginning of this year and it either didn't sell or went rather cheap. Does anybody else remember that? I don't want a copy because I think it's an excellent track (infact I think it's rather mediocre) but for nostalgic reasons. So if anybody wants to sell me a copy I offer 200 quid. (will put that in Wants section as well)

You really think that's twisted? I think it's classic four beats to the bar out and out Northern Soul. PS: can somebody post up the video here? it's a nice one for the boys I'm sure it's on Youtube but can't access the site from the office PC.
