Joseph Webster on eBay
After buying thousands of records from all over the world I have to say that the worst graders are UK sellers. Period. Especially Northern Soul sellers.

Billy Ocean red light, Northern soul?
As mentioned before this is a classic on the scooter scene. It's been a huge record at least since my first scooter run in 1989. Infact, along Melba Moore's Magic Touch this is a "in case of empty dancefloor break the glass and play this" type of record. Can we move on to another record please?

Has this ever been played out? Is it known?
a couple of copies sold on Discogs since 2018. Last few copies M- indicating a new old stock find. Going by the number of people looking for it on Discogs, 210, it's not unknown. But no idea to which scene it is not unknown. Soul collectors, Garage collectors? I think it's just average. Not allnighter material IMO. But maybe the YT doesn't do it any justice. I could imagine it sounds much better played out loud at a dance.

Billy Ocean red light, Northern soul?
No it isnt a soul record. Just a crap pop record that happens to have the right beat and, to make it worse, a haunting chorus. I loathe it.

JMAuction - 09/06/2021 - Results!
A "flawless" copy went for 200 quid on Discogs in Sep 20. So JM's achieved price is not that far off.

Guilty Northern soul pleasure.
Many tunes mentioned I really like. But. Skiing in the snow. How bad is that lyric-wise? I mean, we're talking about soul music. Life. Love. Emotion. And an all-black-group is singing about "Gotta get my gear out ready for a winter spill"?

anyone please?

Vondells - Hey Girl & Airtown ?'s
I too guess they were. Though they don't sound obviously white do they? Discogs lists three releases on Airtown, the other two are Garage.

JMAuction - 26/05/2021 - Results!
Johnny Maestro sure one of the most expensive beat ballads. Fantastic tune. And the only one I'd buy from this weeks JM auctions. All the other records I'd leave for somebody else to buy. Price for the Tymes mispress seems pretty low, considering how rare it is. Ok, it's not traditional northern or crossover or whatever is en vogue at the moment.

Records fairs this month
No mask in sight and I see some folks not keeping distance. Very irresponsible.

I fully agree with that. What a great book.

JMAuction - 21/04/2021 - Results!
Just a general thought on recent prices: Spoke to two guys this week. One is selling higher priced vintage clothing, the other german Beat and Garage 45 rarities. Both said they had incredible sales over the last few months. And both confirmed some customers telling them they had "income surplus" they couldn't spend otherwise due to Corona lock-downs, travel bans etc. This may be a reason for some of the prices JM has been achieving over the last months?

Cassanova Two
Based on who else has releases on that label I'd say it's west coast. Probably San Francisco.

Records Pre or Post Internet?
To me the best years were the early internet years. Literally yield years. Lots of US dealers creating their own sites and posting sales list, countless bargains found. Also, when Ebay US started. Again, countless quality records found at very good prices. Pre-internet I was relying on UK and US sales list posted by mail. They took ages to arrive here in Germany. Most interesting 45s were gone by the time I got the lists.
