UK style handwriting is all in capital letters. But, reading the other posts, my conclusion was obviously wrong.

I somehow doubt it's an original US acetate. "UK style" handwriting and by coincidence both Northern titles on one 45, even though they were released on two different 45s. However I'm happy to be corrected....

How about Tony Colton on ABC? Probably not one of IL's pressing. But at least done at the same pressing plant. And in very convincing quality, both sound and appearance.

German record labels had a roughly similar return policy for 45s in the 60s and early 70s. Unsold records were returned to the labels/distributors. They then stamped sleeve (and sometimes record) with a circled R ("Remittend", returned good) and sold the record again to specialist shops etc. I've never seen "R" stamped records from the 50s or the late 70s onwards so I guess they either didn't accept returns or had a different system.

It never came out in Germany (at least not to my knowledge). If it was german, cat# would be different. "title" and "artist" would be printed in german, not in english. And it wouldn't state ASCAP on the label, it would be GEMA. As your copy has same cat# as the US release I'd say it's an US test press. Not that this would make it less collectable!
