What Are The Rarest Us Motown Group 45's (Excluding Frank Wilson)?
thats right, me too. remember buying this at a very high price via a uk source end of the nineties, ended up trading it with someone only to replace it some five to ten years ago via ebay for indeed a quite low price. also tamla 101 and 102 seemed to be very very scarce before ebay. seen a couple of these too. seldomly in very good nick though!

What Are The Rarest Us Motown Group 45's (Excluding Frank Wilson)?
remember when we worked on that list some years ago (was it on here or on soultalk ?) anyway, to be fair some titles would need to be taken off that list. The Downbeats "Request of a Fool" for example...as much as I love it and it is amongst my fave Motown group records...I have seen several since then going thru ebay. Some even without bids... I try to collect Motown complete up until 1967 (and no I dont want to buy a Frank Wilson LOL) and am almost finished...Having said that two 45s I never saw up for sale and therefor had no chance to buy are Barrett Strong "Let`s Rock" (only saw once when Martin Koppel sold for the first time) and Nick & The Jaguars. So at a guess they will be amongst the Rarest Motwon.

The First Record That Got You Hooked ?
My first 45 ever bought was "Gypsy Woman"..so you could say already at the tender age of around six I was a strong Impressions fan..sadly it was the disco version by Leroy Gomez though LOL First real Soul tunes that got me hooked were Bobby Taylor & The Vancouvers "Malinda" plus Marvin Gaye`s "Heard It Through The Grapevine" long before becoming a mod these were my absolute favourites and were played via my mum´s treasured Tamla Motown albums. Still got them today )

Funky Soul
cheers aid, no problem. as I said earlier...proper name for a club ;)

Funky Soul
No Pete, sorry to have miss interpret you in that case. Must admit I didnt knew that "old definition" at all. Knowing, having and loving so many deep and slow tunes form up north, east coast, west coast I really never associated or tagged slow, deep Soul as Southern Soul. Hence my missunderstanding.

Are All Ebay Highest Bids Legit Or Phoney?
wasnt someone recently on here indicatings something fishy about the JT Parker auction (winner not paying etc) ? Bobby Kline at 1100 doesnt surprise me though...has been a steady seller between 750 and 1000 for teh last couple of years (sadly).

Funky Soul
Percy Millem "Call On Me" Goldwax, Sam Dees "Lonely For You Baby" SSS Int., Art Freeman "Slippiong Around" Fame...just to name three classic Southern Soul tunes I would always enjoy hearing at an allnighter. But Then again I havent got a clue anyway LOL

Funky Soul
cheers Bearsy, I will most defnitely have Fred Wiliams with me. Wether I will play it or not will indeed depent on how the night /floor is going though. I wouldnt like to see myself playing a record out just for the sake of playinig itout..if you know what I mean ;) In my humble personal opinion though I wouldnt classify "Tell her" as a Funky Soul tune or even Funk. To me it is a simple , honest and awesome of course deep Soul track. Not DEEP Soul in the true sense of the word though of course ;) On the other hand the flipside "The Dance Got Old" is more likely to be in my book of funky Soul tunes. But I guess that just goes to show where some of the problems thsi thread again has brought up originate from...the "right" classification of tunes and genres. One man`s Funky Soul is another mans Oldie (Joe HIcks), one man`s oldie is another man`s Deep Funk discovery (The Crow amonghst other examles) and so on.. people are different, have different entries to the whole spectrum of Soul music and therefore classify tunes totally different and indiviually. So its really down to the basic: Enjoy what you hear and if you cant enjoy it hang on till next tune suits your taste better!

Obscure Northern Soul
so right Steve. In this very spirit I just finished compiling the anniversary CD for next saturday... it will feature some scarce new tunes plus three unreleased 6ts acetate only tracks. As always it will be free to the first 50 in and hopefully will treat our guests with some (new) delights for their ears.

Although I dont see the connection / similarity you are making out between not playing OVO and the buying policy of rich-wanna-be-hot-boxing-dj`s I agree with you that both points are wrong

I seem to remember that strangely enough with the label being known as a re-issue label the first rel was indeed on Eric ? Still sold my Eric and still have it on Smash...looks and feels better. Agree, fab tune!
