  1. music can be like a conversation, all the detriot techno godfathers, May, Adkins, saunderson, cite cabaret voltaire and human league as major influences then they sold it back to the north of england.
  2. To nail my flag to a mast I'd have to say that messers Parker, Beggs, Coulstone and Mace all deserve at least a mention who along with some outstanding guests have made Bidds an amazing night for hearing fresh sounds, Viva la Bidds, lark, Duck. dust hear?
  3. top features, always really cherish my copies of this and the follow on grand slam mag.
  4. Cant help but find it quite revealing that despite many on here having a opinion on just about every aspect of the scene ( including me), not many want to speak up on this one, can o' worms methinks.
  5. Shame a lot of Dj's ego's get in the way though, understandably, er should I play this actually better record thats neither exclusive or cost me a months wage....... a no brainer for most sadly. Ive also I've heard lots of records described as massive or huge, when there's 3 copies- and its yet to be pressed, hows that work without one central venue or Dj's that dont really travel too often ?
  6. Here here, mate, spot on underplayed is the new rare!
  7. Some great underplayed sounds, Jez, a move back in the right direction.
  8. If people are making bussiness discissions to clash with other nighters the're not wise from a busines perspective. The Derby thing for example, must of cost loads to set up, you'd think they'd want to maximse its opportunity for success by not competing with established events.
  9. The residents took more of a back seat tonight with all doing, short 1/2ish spots. I spun around 6.45 ish just when feet were beggining to itch, so a few classics were need to satiate the locals, whilst still managing to intergrate a few choice current picks. To me there are only two kinds of people on the scene, those who love and live for the music and those that want to expliot it, in some way, for reasons of greed and ego, they exist in all aspects of the scene and on every level.
  18. I had this and sold it, new I'd regret it, its a great track!
  19. We always try to include a really wide mix of music at Genuine soul, from club classics to underplayed and top 100 oldies, the DJ's we've used reflect this, from Pete Roberts through Maria and Carl Willingham, although this mix of music has had its problems, at times. Its a policy we aim to continue with regaurdless. Thing is the so many 'rare' people can be ignorant of some of the lesser know club sounds, but just lump them together as oldies. and it goes without saying that loads of the oldies crowd instantly hate anything played since wigan, then go and dance to tony Galla, saying remember this...........
  20. oh sorry that would explain why they both sound bleedin awful then, thanks John. Appologies folk for my ignorance, I tend to be pretty niave about contempory music. I tend to listen with anticpation to the next big thing, and then get sadly deflated once I've heard them.
  21. Melvin sparks is awesome mate, it came out on a reissue 12 recently too.
  22. I'll confirm its dead serious, this guy cant sing mate, nor can niles barclay, to these ears they both sing in a soul style, or an aproximation of one, rather than actually singing with soul, just my honest opinion. Both are diffucult to listen to for any length of time, not something I could accuse Marvin or Otis of. and dont start me on that bleeding paper lad only got 5 tracks into the CD before it whent through the window.
