News: The Story - Inspirations - No One Else Can Take Your Place
Brilliant article mate, I was lucky enough to obtain the 3rd (I think) copy to turn up, bought from Arthur Fenn and Dave Raistrick for £80...sold years later to Tim Brown for £800.

Is this really the state of our scene?
Well i can relate to that with your area being once my area, don't get me wrong down here where i now live ive met some of the best soulies ever (some i already knew of course) as for the people in the street few could compare to the people of Willington (nothing to do with this topic of course) i'm only a young kid at 65 and live in NN10

Is this really the state of our scene?
Not intended to be self promotion honestly, just a recent experience i encounted and one that took me back a little. I think half the problem is that instead of just promoting ones own venue, go visit someone elses gig, there's plenty to choose from. BTW where is the Kings Head ? (and don't say in the basket with all the other heads x) thanks for your reply thank you Mick

Is this really the state of our scene?
I've been attending soul nights since 1970 and all nighters since 73 and apart from cov 19 I've always gone, and I mean regular. I try to surport local events and travelling far and wide has never been a problem. More recently I went to a local soul night and the woman on the door said ''its northern soul you know'' I'm thinking well this is a good start I'm at the correct venue at least, I thought about that comment and the only explanation I could come up with is that because I don't (and never have) dressed in a silly hat, baggy trousers and patches all about I may have looked odd one out. I give this same venue another visit (its proper rammed) same lady ''have you booked?'' booked I'm thinking, I've never booked ever for a soul night, weekenders yes. ''No I havn't'' I replied. ''well you can't come in then'' luckily (I think) someone taking the money knew me and I was allowed in. As the night progressed I felt a bit uneasy, twice now I'm trying to put money in their till, and to me I have a sense of rejection. Not like me to be off on one but later in the evening I asked the lady if she read books, ''yes i do'' I went to my car brought a book that I had written, and gave it to her adding a few words ''well read this so when/if I return next time you may have a better understanding of me. I didn't enjoy in taking that stance and this event is coming up again soon, will I go, maybe not.! 'I Searched for Soul and Found the Stars'

Anglo American Auction Results
I bid on Margaret Glover, got an email to confirm i was the highest bidder on the 14th, not heard anything. It says logon, I have but nothing there ? Should have kept my Fortson & Scott. bought it many years ago for about £5 and sold it for little more than that, again many years ago. If only !

Anyone got pictures of Northern originals in quantity?
What a wonderful and interesting question D9 Ktf Sadly I can't directly give you evidence in photographic matter but a few things I came across; 1985, me, Chris King, and Guy Hennigan on a trip to Detroit visited the house of a fellow James Stanford (Casablanca) he was one time working for Ed Wingate at Golden World records. Now when Berry Gordy Jr bought the studio in late 1966 (that became Studio B for Motown) 1000s of mainly Ric Tic 45s and still boxed (25 count shipping boxes, with RT-??? #) stamped on the side were dumped in Casablanca's house garage. We wasn't the first to go through those things but there was plenty to go at. In sweltering heat the 3 of us and ''Popcorn'' Wylie (dressed in a smart jacket and trousers) waded through all of them, sweat pouring out the 4 of us in the hope of finding the more desirable #s. How many records in there, I don't rightly know but a serious amount for sure. Another one, when trawling through Dave Hamilton's basement studio loft (1988) In there were boxes of his Topper label 45s. Mainly Pricilla Page's two releases, and boxes of the Dottie & Millie's 45s (a handfull of the other #s) a couple of boxes of the TCB 'My Sweet Baby' and several boxes of some of his other labels. Also 2x25 count of Jimmy Raye's own label JRE 45s At least 90 copies of Bobby Sheen's. 'Something New to Do. A box that contained 25 (to add to the 50 I brought back) of the Dottie & Millie 45
