  1. I think the thing with Darrell Banks is that it is so desirable , the demand far outways the amount of copies out there .Think Neil Rushton had either a hand written or type written Darrell Banks , def. saw it when I bought some UK things off him in the late 70's. Best,Eddie

  11. I remember Richard playing The Four Reputation " Call on me " on Millage at Stafford C/U , I went up to him and said I've got this [ bought it a few weeks before by The Presentations for £5 ] anyway on hearing this news he uncovered it right in front of me .Didn't have the heart to tell him it wasn't the copy that I'd got !! Though they are pretty similar .Best,Eddie
  12. I was going to go with Little Ann as the longest serving C/U ,but then thought , what about Butch's Diane Lewis " You ain't got a chance " ? If this is a C/U and not actually by her then I think it would beat Little Ann ? As a footnote to the Little Ann story , apparently when told her record had been covered as Rose Valentine , she was so taken with the name she wanted to use it as a stage name , until she was told that there actually was a Rose Valentine out there . Best,Eddie

  17. I've got this unusual UK President release Freddie North " I have a dream " c/w Roger Hatcher " I'm gonna dedicate my song to you " on a Demo copy .Does anyone on here have a copy , it's not in John's UK book .Roger Hatcher is of course the flip to " Sweetest girl in the world " which means they could've released that gem if they'd wanted .Anyone got an issue of this record ? Any feedback welcome ,Cheers ,Eddie

Brilliant forward thinking venue , went there loads of times ,usually on my own before rushing back to get to work on Saturday mornings , some fantastic memories , the tapes were great as well .As Russ said , with Uptown Down South in Newbury running at the same time there was plenty of Soul satisfaction at this time .Best,Eddie
  19. Thanks for letting us know about this Kav , I've signed up for the download , although I'm a little too young to have attended The Wheel , I realise what an incredible influence he must have been on the early Soul scene , and indeed other scenes as well .Look forward to learning more about this legendary guy .Best,Eddie
  20. Thanks everyone , they were both only 30p each , in original sleeves and practically mint as well , great eh ? Many thanks ,Eddie[ ps Isn't both "recovery "and "leave it in the hands of love" great ? ]

  25. The thing is with these acetates , most of the top DJ's in the 70's traded them with each other , and nobody seemed to mind, it just meant you got to hear records that you wouldn't otherwise hear if you only went to Wigan [ me ] and didn't get to hear Sam or Ginger's big Cleethorpes sides , and vice versa .This practise kept Stafford fresh for years with new sounds , the DJ's would make a certain sound big , then do a dub , sell the original and buy a fresh potential biggie .My first acetates were The Drifters " Gotta pay " / Dena Barnes and Edward Hamilton " Baby don't " / Tobi Legend off Steve Glover in B'ham market .Used to buy some off a guy in Wigan record bar including Little Anthony /Lou Pride about £6 I think .Didn't they smell great as well ? !!! Best,Eddie
