Wanted - Junior Wells - Shake It Baby/stomach Ache
Nice one Rob, memories indeed......saw Martin Derby at the RSS reunion in Brum a few years back. Think Dave moved down Cornwall or thereabouts around the same time, but was pretty sure he was still buying vinyl ...maybe more discreetly eh? The Australian Astor is a proper beauty mate, will try and post a scan after weekend when me heads recovered from Bidds Nighter...

P.M. me your email addy and I'll send the artwork for loading up on here (had to alter it a bit due to printers requirements) Regards Mace

Can Todays Northern Scene Ever Be Attractive
Gotta agree that uptempo does seem more popular (once again) especially in the last 18 months, both on the Northern and R&B scenes as far as I can see. Midtempo was very popular a few years back, and still has it's place, but most allnighters seem to thrive on pounding uptempo soul for the majority of the night.

Sh'mon - By Mr. Dynamite - On Sue + I Say, I Love You - By Johnny Watson - On King
Sh'mon has been fetching silly money for years now mate...check popsike to get an idea. Rob Messer used to have 2 copies cus he used to play Pt1 and Pt2 back to back on occasion, so it might be worth asking him (Hip City Records)..... Regards Mace

Lewie & 7 Days
It's a nice, though mediocre midtempo track with a pretty dodgy version of Night Train on the flip. Useless at soundclips but pm me your postal addy and I'll send you a CD with it on. CM had it listed for some ridicoulously high price at first, but then reduced it to $75. Johnny Beggs sold a copy of 'You've been cheating' last year, and one went through ebay a few months back....hard record to find, and a great tune to boot regards Mace

Betty O'brien And Johnny Oliver - Is Johnny Northern?
The Betty O'Brien 45 is nowt special, you would be lucky to get £25 for it imo. Both sides were also included on the 4 track 'She'll be gone' French E.P. Regards Mace

James Mccleese - Semi-known R&b/northern 45 For Sale (tell Me Why - Marco)
Mark, try recording via a pre-amped mixer if you have one. Definately better recording through 'line in' input if you have one, but it will still work through a mic input with more than enough volume to play with (I have to do it this way myself as have no line-in input on my laptop). You can also adjust bass/treble/middle on the mixer. Regards Mace

Warren's Wants No 792

Why Split The Scene
I personally prefer to hear a good mix of all styles in one room....as long as there are a good percentage of fresh or underplayed tunes. Of course, not everyone will like every tune, or genre for that matter, but nobody will ever enjoy all the tunes played in one main room allnighter anyway so what's the difference. At least it gives folk a chance of hearing something they may not normally get the chance to hear cus they don't want to wander from the main room, or don't believe they will enjoy anything being played in the R&B/Modern rooms. I can understand specialised allnighters (ie R&B/Modern etc) catering for those just wanting to hear that specific genre all night, but surely if the music played is of decent enough quality it deserves to be played to a larger audience. Besides which, certain tunes cross the bounderies anyway, so you still get R&B played in main rooms (ie Ray Agee/Hayes Cotton/Gwen Davis/Lavern Baker etc) and then you get the minority moaning that R&B is being played in the main room when there is another designated R&B room.....not to mention those who would argue Ray Agee and Hayes Cotton et al are Northern records...not R&B records... I'm no big fan of Modern, but I'm sure its a similar situation. Imagine if this split room policy was adopted and strictly adhered to all those years ago...how many great R&B and Modern tracks would have fell by the wayside as they had lacked the exposure of being played by the main room DJs to the larger audience. A classic example is Rufus Lumley Minneaplis' Minnesota, a record Johnny Beggs started to champion at the Steam allnighters in Crewe, to a very small and limited audience. Its now a floorpacker for Flanny at Middleton, but could have so easily been overlooked and left in the hands of collectors rather than getting it's deserved spins to a larger audience. There are plenty of great R&B records that suffer the same fate, and of most other genres as well, cus they get played in add on rooms to limited audiences. Just my opinion like.....

Bobby Paris-dark Continent 45
Linda Couldstone put me onto it a while ago and I picked a few up a couple of years ago. Pt 2 on the flip is better if I remember correctly. Pretty sure I got told that he played every instrument on the track? Value about £30 - £40 but it is quite hard to find. Regards Mace

Kent's Proposed Popcorn Cd
Have another pop at it Linda.....one on ebay right now... https://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-Northern-Soul-45-...tem280209770699 You'll have to start at $1200 this time though if you wanna be in the running...

Kent's Proposed Popcorn Cd
Was his ID Teenwopper or something similar. He sent me a few emails about 3 years ago, moaning at me cus I outbid him on a 2 or 3 copies of the same record within a few days....I won them all for $10 or less so told him to bid higher or stop whinging. He sort of apologised and we ended up swapping CDs but I had a similar experience to your own, with receiving predominately teen orientated CDs.

Sixteen Years/ Better Days
Yeah, I've had the Pilma one in the past. Got both Colpix 45s but not up for selling the one you want...think Nige Brown had one for sale a few months back. See ya at Bidds mate (if you remember to introduce yourself ) Regards Mace
-
Sixteen Years/ Better Days
He also did another one on Colpix 'Here is one' b/w 'You oughta been there' which are both decent tracks. 'What a mess' is deffo the best of the bunch imo.

Gene Chandler Pretty Little Girl
Paid £60 for a mint copy of Gene Chandler minter from Des Parker about 4 months ago. Both versions are quality tunes, but Gene Chandlers is the better imo.
