  1. I bloody hope so mate, I love travelling, but OMG its getting a little tedious to have to have a 3 or 4 hour drive every time you wanna hear a decent set of records (within reason)...its been over 35 years of travelling now, with no break to speak of...I'm getting tired zzzz..... Russ
  2. I am aware of that Pete, but to anyone who knows, there has always been some sort of scene in the areas I mention, as opposed to no scene as such in the area you refer to....sorry to be obvious, but just to be clear...the area I mention is one of those NS blips, were for some reason NS has always been popular... Russ
  3. South Coast meaning the area between Brighton & Bournemouth, taking in Portsmouth & Southampton, not the South generally. I would also add there are odd promoters who are the real deal, but the vast majority havnt got a scooby, pointless to even mention it here really, other than to correct the South Coast thing, as opposed to the entire South, as most of the so called promoters on the South Coast wouldnt be on a SOUL forum...when I say clueless, its being kind, trust me.... Best Russ
  4. Thing is there are some cracking, exciting DJ's on the SC, unfortunately they are almost always over looked....why ?
  5. Keeeeeerrrrrrccchhhhiiinnnnggggg....Its the Northern Soul cash cow !!!
  6. Yes, 'You Move Me' was deffo a club sound first, that got promoted to the premier leagues. 'So In Love' was played at the 100 Club & Lifeline consecutively, as well as else where too. Russ
  7. I do think that some records also take on an entirely different persona when played out at a club, through a good system....that along with the atmosphere etc can turn a record into something else. Russ
  8. They are in the same country lol.....serious question tho, were do these records have to be big to be counted ?. Russ
  9. My copy of 'So In Love' was in the first three JP found, the only other copy prior to that was RR own copy that was whipped n JP owned that anyway - the first time it was played since its release, was probably when Jason played it on his radio show. I think its pretty safe to say this was played for the first time in the UK at an All Nighter, almost definitely as the other copies were with DJ's that rarely do Soul Nights anyway... Best Russ
  10. No they're not, but ,nearly all the records I have mentioned fall in to that category though, doubt any of these will pack a floor at Kings Hall, Keele, etc, etc, but they ram it at Lifeline, 100 Club, Burnley, & all of the second rooms at other nighters, including Rugby, Gloucester, Radcliffe & some go in the main rooms at these places too, not forgetting the forward thinking Soul Nights up & down the country...but I spose it depends what you call a big nighter really, bums on seats or quality of the music & integrity of the people listening & dancing....most will eventually be excepted by the masses eventually, look at the Stafford classics that were shunned by the returnees originally, many have become excepted now... Best Russ
  11. Some more... 12. Mystiques - Put Out The Fire Wanda McDaniel - Gangster Boy Grey Imprint - Do You Get The Message (re activation) Wally Coco - Message to Society Scott Three - Running Wild Fourth Level - Deep South Charles Simmons - Save The World Double O Demingos - Colour One Tear Black Pt 2 Superbs - Wind In My Sails Butch's Vessie Simmons Cover Up Almost too many to mention that Ady plays at the 100 Club from acetate, virtually all bangers....
  13. Was played at the Mecca originally. Russ
  14. Then maybe ya should, ya miserable git, both the Precisions & Sir Joe rammed the floor at Lifeline lol Hope ya well mate Russ
  15. LWBTSWY always reminds me of Saus at the Wilton, brilliant record & was blown away when you played it at Lifeline...strangely I think I have 2 copies of this as well lol Best Russ
  16. Phil started a thread recently, some thing like where have all the big lads gone, meaning the classic rareities, well IMHO most mentioned on this thread so far could be placed in this category, its not just about the classics, altho some of these I think of as classics now, as good as many played in the golden era & better in some cases. Best Russ
  17. At least 2001 was being played at the 100 Club, but these things do take time these days...brilliant record too... Best Russ
  18. Well here's ten just of the top of my head....will post more later, but here's some bangers to be going on with... Parliaments - Rainy Day Ishola Muhammed - Open Up Your Heart United Sounds - Its All Over (Baby) Willie Dale - Let Your Light Shine Tiaras - Foolish Girl/Suprise Precisions - My Sense Of Direction (Is Blown) Hopkins Brothers - Shake Sheri Sir Guy - Nobody Beats My Love Tommy & The Derbys - Dont Play The Role Kae Wiiliams - Our Love Is Dying
  19. Once I add a record to my collection it has no monetary value to me - Im not buying for investment purposes or to willy wave on the odd occasion that I get to DJ now, Im buying records that I love & hope I will never have to sell..... Russ
  20. Ha, me too...bought for £40 in the late 8ts, early 9ts.....cannot imagine why I sold this now doh !!!....good luck with the search. Russ
  21. I know what Phil means, but as mentioned earlier there are soooo many more records now that are being chased, almost every decade has thrown up its 'must have' rareities....I think on the whole the records that Phil means are already in collections & are 'keepers'....every now & again one will pop up, but will go for mega bucks, which puts me off personally, especially as I could buy a current or recent 'biggie' for less money & if you think in this way, these are the big lads of the future...... Interesting thread Phil Best Russ
  22. & me....'kin brilliant record in every way, you just had to be there.....woooooooosssshhhhhhy !!!....'Shootin thru' !!! Best Russ
