Manchester Soulies
Hiya...I'm trying to think if I remember you...I know/knew Chris Carr very well and he was out and about a bit a couple of years ago. He still wasn't very well and last thing I knew he was in and out of hospital. I took him to Lifeline a a few other nighters but he seems to have disappeared again and his mobile number doesn't work. Nick S and Mike....seen em on and off over the years at City and the odd niter...last time was at Middleton and let's just say they haven't changed!!! Even though Nick is masquerading as somebody with a university education nowadays!!! Steve from Huddersfield...well you can't avoid him if you go out on a regular basis he's now engaged to the lovely Lydia...Who else? I still see Eileen who's Joe's sister if you remember Joe the Nurse? He used to go to parr Hall and similar venues to the rest of us....sure there's tonnes more....Malcolm Talcum...still stomping every month in his vest and flares at Bury....Martin the Mod...still running clubs and wearing tight suits at places like the Thirsty Scholar in town..... You may remember me by my sensible name Sharron-I used to be a mod and hung around with another girl called Julie who everybody fancied....they probably still do..she's known as Shuffler on here but she's not around much nowadays.... Bye for now!!!! Reggie

Little Beaver - Listen To My Heartbeat
I still don't think there's much difference between the lp and the 45 even though I've had a couple of listens side by side...slightly longer...and yes I have seen the 45 going for similar to what Chalky said. I think I'll wait for a bargain like Steve b

The Bloody Snake
Mmmm, the Snake...well I have danced to it, MANY moons ago (and I think possibly once at somewhere like South or Funkademia in Manchester on a p**sed up night out but that doesn't count...) but it doesn't really get played anywhere apart from local type oldies nights anymore does it? Actually as a matter of fact, funnily enough, the last time I heard it was at a do in droylsden...Johnny Beggs played it (accompanied by lots of swearing) under pressure from some locals.... My favourite Al tracks are Touch and Go and Be concerned It still wouldn't make me buy Lambrini though....yeuck if you want to get squiffy for cheap you're better off with a two litre bottle of white lightening and that will definitely get the oil stains off your drive

Northern Soul H Q Outside The Uk ?
Def thinking about coming next July for the Soul Weekender if it's on again....all I can remember about rimini is sunbeds, scooters and very large pizzas!!!! ...it's been 20 years

Northern Soul H Q Outside The Uk ?
haha probably with my older brother!! Hey and my excuse was that I didn't know any better....we went to the adriatic for about 5 years on the run and I had some great times! especially as I got older as I'd got into the mod scene by then and there were scooters everywhere!!! I swear I am not a secret Ryan Paris fan...honestly
-
Northern Soul H Q Outside The Uk ?
He he...when you mention discos like that it reminds me of teenage holidays in Rimini in the early 80s with Ryan paris-Dolce Vita playing everywhere, men with mullets and moustaches wearing espadrilles Happy days!! I must definitely come over to Italy soon...bin far too long

Darrow Fletcher

Darrow Fletcher
and the flip to My Young Misery is great too...proper old mod scene track...I've got to know why

Darrow Fletcher
I've got a few Darrow Fletcher 45s....got all mine from Yanks on Oxford Rd in Mcr 20 years ago including Jaclyn, Uni and Groovy releases...they all cost about 5-10 quid each.....however I never got "What have I got now" and am always getting it mixed up with "What good am I" too....although What have I got now is worth double I think as it's more in demand. I like all his records and such good value...45s like Pain gets a little deeper have been played for more than 30 years and still sound 100 times better then a lot of Wigan Oldies. And he's a very nice man...did I tell you I met him at Cleggy last year

Northern Soul H Q Outside The Uk ?
I would suggest that our soul scenes are different but enjoyable in their own way I love my fish and chips but on the other hand give me a nice lasagne any day of the week I've been to a couple of european dos and the main problem is they just can't replicate that seediness that we have in many a venue Your venues are usually too modern and cosmopolitan and there are usually doors on the ladies toilet cubicles which is kind of hard to get ued to when you're used to places like Sheridans You also have far too many attractive younger people who don't get too upset if they get up to a record and realise it's the instrumental version nor do you see many taking holdalls with 3 spare pare of underpants to a soul night!

Northern Soul H Q Outside The Uk ?
There's quite a lot of us in the UK who aren't 60s diehard you know!...Blimey here we go again...UK soul fans are too backward to accept anything but 60s oldies as we're far too old and set in our ways. For crying out loud WE'RE NOT ALL LIKE THAT!!!!! Okay the European soul scene are less blinkered about what they will dance to? Young people will dance to anything....Delegates of Soul one minute...get up I feel like a bloody sex machine the next..I know it may seem hard to believe but not all of us need anybody to tell us that soul music is not just oldies you know!!

Northern Soul H Q Outside The Uk ?
Yep but compared to the Uk (and if we include the UK mod scene, funk scene and all those things in between)...there's no comparision venue volume wise. Okay there are a lot of nights that hardly set the world on fire but there are also a lot that do. 12 or so venues a year....try that every Saturday! At least....I know it's overkill and quality is better than quantity and all that but it's still better and we have just as many younger people with a passing interest or more as anywhere else...I can name dozens of under 30s on here (including my husband) who collect, dj and regularly attend venues so lets stop saying how the UK scene is dying and everywhere else is better. Europe and the rest of the world may have a great soul scene going on but hey so (still) have we
-
Northern Soul H Q Outside The Uk ?
Not likely to happen ....I've been to nights abroad and granted there's some great collectors/djs out there but compared to the UK events and enthusiasts they are few and far between....okay you may go to Sweden/italy and have a great night but it's not like that every week...you'll probably only get a decent night 2 or 3 times a year. Just ask Olof...he was on northern soul overdose when he stayed over here for a couple of months recently!

Anybody got a clip of the alternate version?

Little Beaver - Listen To My Heartbeat
Overtime....you're having a laugh. ....I could have picked up loads of records for a fiver in the eighties but I spent all my money on scooters and tight clothes...oh how I regret the 45s I overlooked in those record bars at Warrington and Blackburn and the like. I suppose a good example of the supply and demand rule is Ace Spectrum....this is not a rare record, on a major label but I saw em for up to £150 a few years ago. One dealer I know confessed to having about 20 of em. Think you can get one for less than £50 now...and it should be less really but it's 45 negative equity I suppose! To be honest I am just a tight wad...it's one of the reasons I won't get on the housing market....I'm waiting for it to drop. Can I apply the same theory to getting a copy of the Ultimates for a tenner though sometime in the future? Mmmm probably not
-
Little Beaver - Listen To My Heartbeat
love this, have it on the lp and keep thinking of upgrading as it were but not for £100! I've seen copies for less than that but £20 is optimistic i think! This is what happens with the credit card generation-don't mind paying £20-£30 extra here and there so us cash in an envelope types have to suffer.... (retreats and puts on tin hat.......)
