  1. I think personally this should start here on SS. I dont buy boots but I do get peed off trawling through lists on here of boots etc for sale. Like Diddie earlier I dont care but I prefer to stick with my own values. Maybe a seperate heading for BOOTS Sales on here would be a good starting point. Just my personal thoughts. I get it that people earn a living and I dont have a problem with that. It just bugs me when I see a heading including something I want then it turns out not to be in the format I want. Happy New Year everyone. Regards Steve
  2. Very good stuff. Well done!
  3. Did not Billy Arnell Tough Girl on Holly come under this heading? Seem to recall a story similar to that about Tough Girl. Also regarding Nabay I am sure he was from the Middle East and needed to either fund his fare home or something similar?? Maybe he actually owed money!! Cant recall the story just now.
  4. Re G Blackwell.I bought one from a well known trader about 15 years ago, then a JM book appeared stating original or boot. Turned out mine was a boot. Eventually got my money back. Anyhow dealer continued to hawk it about and sold it at a weekender. By the time the buyer realised dealer had left the venue. So buyer insisted on his money back BEFORE returning the disc. When he got his money back the buyer drilled through the disc. Then sent it back. Guess SS was not the only crook eh?
  5. I well recall being in the Pigrims Inn Bedford when Steve Cooper had the list from SS.All purporting to be originals. From memory Mel Britt,George Blackwell,Salvadors,Billy Prophett etc.ALL TOP TUNES AT THE TIME. I bought Mel Britt from it. About £6 in or around 75/76. Anyhow it was one of the boots with the stamped number and white bit showing at the edge of the centre of the label. Being a punter/dancer without much cash at the time it was not funny. Tend to agree with Diddie Morgan, whilst I enjoy the saga about SS, I to would love to hear more from the likes of Tim Ashibende,Dave Raistrick,John Manship,Rod and Dave etc. MAYBE the forthcoming discovery/record delving book will tell us more? Happy Christmas everyone.

  9. I think I have loaded the Belles on NZ ActionFull page photo.pdf
  10. The Larue Lada Edmund Jnr is a Shrine tune in all but label. Thats often remarked upon by JM.
  11. I have only seen one way way back in 70,s BUT I thought it had a date of release on it. Thanks for the reply.
  12. Barry what DATE is on the label? There was a thread last week about it. I seem to recall it had the release date on the label.Thank You. Steve
  13. Phew thats a tough one IMO. Got this on tape from Rob Marriott in around 1981. Found out it was found by Ian Levine , got my copy around the same time as you by the looks of it! Nice tune.
  14. Bloody good as well Neil.

All three c/u Bobby Jason, Joe Matthews and the Inserts and Christine Cooper. Top tunes. RS has always listed CW and VB in his various top 5's or top 10's. Fair to say he may have known a thing or two.
  17. Believe it or not around 1980/1 used to DJ at a cellar club called Brewsters in Manchester on a weeknight, maybe a Tuesday. Brian Rae was the main man I was just local ( ish) support. Gary used to lend Brian The Vondells, but he did,nt seem to like it so I got to play it. Strange world of NS eh?
  18. Pete I think Boba is referring to a person called Fipi rather than the label name in this case. Thats how I read it. Matter of interest came across an LP many moons ago for some kind of Disney film soundtrack. Backing vocals featured Melvin C Britt. Maybe around 82 from memory.
  19. Tony Warot may be able to help here. He had a demo and I recall it was stamped with the date. I thought it was 69.
  20. Come see about me. Was a 15/16 year old getting ready for school. Blue "drawing" greatest hits album. ALWAYS seemed to play Come See about me. Love the way DR phrases and the girls reply. Love it.
  21. Personally dont think pigment matters. If its Northern its Northern. If you think about the really popular oldies that have stood the test of time they tend to appeal to more mainstream music lovers as well. Epitome of Sound I think were white BUT it was HUGE, and my rock loving 16 year old and Pop loving partner at 52 appreciate it. I find that popular tunes like Mel Britt,Epitome,Yvonne Baker,Paul Anka, Ruby Andrews et al also do the trick. They have simple reptitive lyrics, easy to like ( which is why we danced to them way back in the 70,s) BUT more hard core stompers like Twans, Cecil Washington etc dont switch on the light at all. Yet give Lesley the Isleys My love from the LP and we are in business.
  22. Feature on Sky News about a young man called Jimmy Higham who recorded Is,nt she lovely. Never performed or recorded before. Anyhow this young man died last Christmas of cancer. His friends have posted the tune up on Itunes. It is currently No 11 in the Itunes chart. The proceeds go to a bursary for a good school in his name. The interview with 2 of his friends stated he was a good Northern lad who loved soul music. He also was pictured wearing a Northern Soul T shirt. Only young so sad. The tune is very simple just him, his mate and a guitar. Worth a listen and if you are feeling generous a download as well. Good luck.
  23. Top tune.
  24. Rod I had a tape from WC.Richard introduced it something like.... "Gary Rushbrooke says this is a Detriot record, it is in fact from N Carolina.Still a great record though" Maybe he knew something back then?
